After the Aishan trees had suddenly and furiously bloomed, pollen had started to fall from the sky in never before seen quantities. The sun seemed choked by its presence and the breeze currents seemed to carry it across all of Tendaji.
Curiously enough, the impact of the pollen could be seen in earthlings...
Random earthlings across Tendaji saw cracks and fissures in their skin, shedding as if they had a sunburn. New skin tones shone through from underneath. Almost as if by magic new eye colors and crystal colors emerged with a night's rest. Earthlings changed overnight without regard to their family lineage. Brothers and sisters now sported new colors; mothers and daughters that once looked like spitting images captured the eyes of many with their sudden differences.
What could be made of these changes? The world was in upset, some overjoyed and thrilled at the new colors, others in despair as their self views shifted beneath their feet.

Did they change too, or do they just witness the new looks of someone close? Are they fascinated in this sudden new change, or are they in the throws of woe? Color Change Instructions
|| Either at the very beginning of the WE or at the very end, the owner(s) should create a post dedicated to the new colors chosen if they choose to update their palette. || Owners do not have to change all of the character's colors, they can opt to change just one, a few, or all. || Owners should specifically post which new swatch they would like (no CC, this event is for owners who specifically want new colors for their characters). || Characters can only choose new swatches in the race that is already established. (A hybrid with fire skin can ONLY choose fire skin, just a new shade. A hybrid with leaf crystals can ONLY choose leaf crystals, etc.) || Aishan hybrids that have earthling colored skin can choose to update their skin tone and the staff will decide whether their fade needs to be updated as well (if applicable). We will pick the fade color best suited to the character, owners only have to pick the base skin tone. || ONLY earthling colors can be updated. "Did you see her hair? She's the third one this morning-"
"-and it just happened overnight? Crystals don't just change-"
In a boarding house filled with apprentice midwives and their dutiful tutors rumors were a guarantee. Rumors about their patients? Kept under the breath, but just as plentiful. Mero wasn't on rotation today, but goddess how she wished she were. The place was a flutter with activity and all circulating around one thing; the changes.
At first it was just a few infants who didn't look like their parents - nothing new, fidelity wasn't hard to break - but now the parents themselves were off. Curiosity got the better of Mero and instead of staying inside to study like a good little student she reached for her overcoat and set out to the streets! She just had to see first hand what everyone was talking about!

Kuno strolled through the city with Bubs following along, trying hard to figure out where Mero's boarding house was. He'd gotten there too late to stop where Mero was staying, so he'd treated himself to a room at the stables. ..He wasn't about to leave Bubs out in the cold alone!
That said, he had no idea anything had changed on him. With no mirror and a thick layer of clothes hiding his crystals, he simply woke, washed his face in cold water, and continued on his search. Little did he know what a big surprise this was actually going to be! He rubbed at his dry eyes and shook his head. Must still be tired... "Hey Bubs, can you find Mero here? Find Mero."
Relishing the cold air, Bubs was too busy with his nose to the ground to pay attention to anything Kuno was saying.

"-what do you mean you don't like how I look anymore?! I didn't ask for this-!"
The conversations Mero was eavesdropping on as she walked were absolutely scathing. If she could have remained in certain areas without getting caught she most certainly would have, but the hybrid was smarter than that. She hung around just long enough to overhear some gossip, look in on the results and move on before anyone was ever the wiser. Couples who had lived in bliss for years were suddenly at one another's throats, children didn't recognize their mothers, fathers and sons now no longer looked related...It was utter chaos! But kept on such a hush hush level, almost as if the city didn't want others to catch on what was so obviously wide spread.
Thank the spirits Mero hadn't been wrapped in that nonsense. She was still her glorious, pristine self!
She'd just gone down another street when she saw the raptrix. "Bubs?" At first her voice was barely above a murmur, but when she was sure it was him she called out, "Bubs!" And then, as she came closer, his master came into view, "Kuno! I didn't know you were - what happened to your eyes?!"

The ruckus around him left a consistent hum of energy in the air that was almost distracting. He was on a mission though, and the concerns of others were none of his business. Kuno and Bubs both looked up when Mero called out. Bubs let out a soft ruff and stretched out his neck to bump his nose against her hand for affection. Kuno gave her a very pleased grin. She certainly looked surprised! Just as he had hoped!
Actually, that was a lot of surprise.. "What're you goin' on about?" His hands automatically rose to brush over his face, but he didn't feel anything out of the ordinary. Then the conversations around him connected in his mind. Had he changed, too?! "You tell me. I ain't seen my own eyes in a few days." Wait, was anything else different?
All at once, his hat, gloves, heavy coat, and his sweater were piled on the ground as he looked over what he could see. Hair seemed fine, skin was fine.. those strange crystals poking through his shirt made him stare. "Well... s**t. That's different."

Before noticing Kuno the apprentice midwife had been happy enough to give Bubs some scritches. After seeing his changes, however, the man in question had her full attention! "How did...how...Have you bathed at all?" She knew life on the road meant less amenities than life in the city, but by the goddess if he'd come to her smelling like a - He DOES smell like a stable.
If it weren't for more pressing matters she might have grilled him for it, but not now! "They're a greenish sort of blue now - What are you doing?!" She hissed, holding her hands out as if to shield him from the eyes of strangers when her own were 'slyly' sneaking peeks. If her skin blushed any harder Mero was sure to catch flame! But...those pecs....
"Kuno you're going to freeze." Exasperated, Mero kept her head turned to the side.

"O'course I bathe," he huffed with a roll of his eyes. "Day b'fore yesterday. Not every place got a mirror, ya know. Besides, they were the same as always when I last checked." He poked at his crystals with a frown, completely ignoring Mero's panic for the moment. What had happened in that stable?!
A bitter chill of a breeze swept along his back to give him a tingling reminder of his situation. He had the decency to blush as well as his eyes swept around for a brief moment. Well, there were plenty of people staring at the scene he'd made... but the blush on Mero's face was the cutest thing. His grin widened through his own embarrassment. "Ah. Sorry there." With one last look at the strange crystals, he bent to grab the clothing he had dropped. "Green, you said?" He hummed softly as he pulled his sweater back on. "Come take a closer look for me. Is it decent colors, ya think?"

"Day before yes-" Mero's face contorted as the reality of it sank in, and closed her eyes to take a deep, steadying breath. "Do your eyes hurt? Or your crystals?" From what she'd been able to see the skin around his crystals didn't look inflamed and his eyes were clear. So, was it just that fast or was it a magic that was still infecting him?
Now that he was getting decent, Mero's posture relaxed and she turned to face him. "They're....nice. It's going to take some getting used to, but I don't hate them." They weren't the eyes she'd looked into dozens of times before and they weren't the cyrstals she'd traced with her nails, but Mero wasn't opposed to them. It was still Kuno, after all.
"Why aren't you freaking out? I feel like I'm having more of a reaction to this than you are."

Kuno paused a moment to get a feel for what his body was doing... but it felt the same as ever. He reached up to touch the crystals on his forehead now that his shoulders were covered. "Naw. I don't feel a thing. Like I said, I didn't know anythin' happened. Woulda noticed things hurtin'."
Once Mero gave her verdict on the changes, he broke into a pleased grin and ran his hand contemplatively along his jaw. "That's a relief. Don't ya worry though. I'll let ya gaze inta my eyes all ya like ta get used ta them again." He chuckled lightly and shrugged. "I dunno. Doesn't seem that big of a deal. I don't see myself much. Besides.. s'long as you don't mind it, why should I?"

"Oh my goddess," Mero murmured with a roll of her eyes. "I don't even know why I worry...you're fine." She didn't know if she should be grateful that he could still exasperate her or frustrated over his nonchalance. Mero didn't doubt for a second that Kuno wouldn't be the type to have half a limb missing and claim he'd be well in the morning! Just a nap and I'll be good. This man!
"Some people take pride in their crystals, their eyes-" She waved her hand, "-etc, because it ties them to their family. You're not worried about that kind of thing?" Not that his family traits weren't scattered enough as it was. His blood was just as varied as her own.

Kuno chuckled at Mero's disgruntled eyeroll. She was so cute when she was irritated. "O' course I'm fine," he boasted lightly.
Of course, Mero's continued doubts made him stick out his lip in a pout. "Well, I wasn't worried about that. Now that ya mention it.. Ya think mom will be that upset? What if she don't recognize me anymore? She gonna disown me?" He let a faux panic rise on his face and held out his arms to Mero eagerly with a step forward. "I need a hug!"
Two brave younglings had approached Bubs with interest and were busy giggling as they got sniffed and licked. Bubs looked up at the teasing tone from Kuno though and gave a soft woof of curiosity.

The stare Mero gave Kuno was positively droll. If she could have looked more aggrieved or repugnant she would have tried. "Oh ha ha, laugh at me while you can, someone is bound to say something about it." Still, put out as she was, Mero walked right into those arms and wrapped her own around his torso with a huff. When she turned her head to the side, eyes moving toward Bubs, it was with puffed cheeks.
Like your master, huh? Happy so long as he was being petted and told how good of a boy he was.
"....Thank you for coming....Even if you stink and your eyes look weird."

Though he was legitimately surprised when Mero walked into his embrace, Kuno easily wrapped his arms around her to hug her close. "I'll take it when it comes up. They'll be surprised.. but it ain't just about looks when it comes ta family." At least, he was pretty sure it wasn't. Mero had accepted the differences, but what about his family? Would.. would they be that upset? Neither of his parents had particularly deep connections to their ancestry for various reasons. Maybe this would be a bigger deal to them than he realized...
That was a concern for later though. His grin warmed as he nuzzled into Mero's hair. Right. This was the whole reason for coming out in the first place. "At least the stink has an easy fix~ Ain't checked in anyplace yet. Know a place that has a bath and lets animals in?"

Easy enough to say. Maybe it was because Kuno came from such a prolific family that he could talk like that, but Mero didn't know what she'd do if she look any more different from her mother than she already did. Almost all of her features came from a man she'd never met so the idea of losing any shred of the woman who'd raised her alone gave her shivers. What if she had a sibling? And they didn't even look related? Well...so long as I was the prettier one it wouldn't be that bad, right?
Maybe.
Kuno had two brothers and she still thought he was the better looking one, even with his changes, so she was the perfect person to judge that. "Come on, there's an inn close to the boarding house," She pulled back and tried her best to straighten up his shirt before turnings to Bubs. "And if you give me a ride I might have a roasted roati with your name on it."

In his mind, Kuno was desperately curious to see what his eyes looked like now. The battle between being worried by his family's reaction and being relieved by Mero's acceptance didn't put any damper on his curiosity. As chill as he was about the situation, he still wanted to know for certain! He didn't mind the changes in his crystals so far, so surely the eyes would be fine! "Sounds good. C'mon Bubs."
Bubs gave his little admirers each a lick before he returned to the pair. When Mero addressed him, he smiled and gave an enthusiastic wave of his wings. Her tone was certainly promising!
