The Aftermath

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

After the Aishan trees had suddenly and furiously bloomed, pollen had started to fall from the sky in never before seen quantities. The sun seemed choked by its presence and the breeze currents seemed to carry it across all of Tendaji.

Curiously enough, the impact of the pollen could be seen in earthlings...

Random earthlings across Tendaji saw cracks and fissures in their skin, shedding as if they had a sunburn. New skin tones shone through from underneath. Almost as if by magic new eye colors and crystal colors emerged with a night's rest. Earthlings changed overnight without regard to their family lineage. Brothers and sisters now sported new colors; mothers and daughters that once looked like spitting images captured the eyes of many with their sudden differences.

What could be made of these changes? The world was in upset, some overjoyed and thrilled at the new colors, others in despair as their self views shifted beneath their feet.

[ Earthlings (and those with earthling blood) have started to suddenly change colors! What does your character make of the changes? Did they change too, or do they just witness the new looks of someone close? Are they fascinated in this sudden new change, or are they in the throws of woe? Let us know how your character handles the change in the world! ]

Color Change Instructions

|| Either at the very beginning of the WE or at the very end, the owner(s) should create a post dedicated to the new colors chosen if they choose to update their palette.
|| Owners do not have to change all of the character's colors, they can opt to change just one, a few, or all.
|| Owners should specifically post which new swatch they would like (no CC, this event is for owners who specifically want new colors for their characters).
|| Characters can only choose new swatches in the race that is already established. (A hybrid with fire skin can ONLY choose fire skin, just a new shade. A hybrid with leaf crystals can ONLY choose leaf crystals, etc.)
|| Aishan hybrids that have earthling colored skin can choose to update their skin tone and the staff will decide whether their fade needs to be updated as well (if applicable). We will pick the fade color best suited to the character, owners only have to pick the base skin tone.
|| ONLY earthling colors can be updated. Aishan and Kahikinan colors are not affected by this event.
|| All updates will be made during the next growth of the character!
|| Characters can update their swatches individually of their families (colors chosen will not affect any other character in the shop).
|| Any breeding moving forward will use these new colors (consider these new swatches new genetics).
|| If you have any questions feel free to reach out to the mule, Ely, or Kana and we can help with anything individual that hasn't been addressed here!

Kani felt....itchy. Having recently wandered into Oba with Morain and their recently located guide, she had only assumed that the reason for said itchiness was the change in terrain. She grew up on the coast mostly, her small Oba residency cut short after her mother passed. Her skin was adapted to the humid and the wet, not this dry heat that they had been experiencing. On top of it all, the strange pollen had appeared. It got into her hair and her nose, much like the desert sand did after being blown about. It was difficult to tell which was worse in this moment, and what exactly was causing the itching.

She'd settled down for the evening when the truly concerning part kicked in, the strange cracks running over her arms noticeable even in the dim light of their camp. Was it some sort of disease? A bug? She needed a second opinion on the matter, and so she sought out Morain to ask his advice.

"I believe I have an illness," she commented as she pushed her way into his tent, sticking out her arms to show off the oddity bestowed upon her. "Am I dying?"

(1/7 - no changes to Morain~ <3)

The guide Morain and Kani had secured was an old Matori man who offered barely any words, kind or cruel, to anyone in particular, and seemed wholly focused on taking them north to Tale, and little else. They weren't his only customers for this trip; they would have had to pay quite the fee for a private escort, so they had found companions in a middling sized family of Yaeli, and a few unhappy looking Elaria who had promptly taken up residence towards the back of the group, and along the fringes whenever they stopped for the night.

The first few nights of their trip were comfortable, settling in cheap but safe inns, but now they were properly weaving their way north where they were forced to set up camp at night. Still, it was comfortable, and the concern of the first few days where Morain feared he had picked the wrong guide settled. The old man was honest, if blunt; Morain could trust that he would get them north efficiently and safely.

At least, until tonight. Even the old man seemed uncomfortable, and had retreated to bed. A child from the yaeli family had been crying off and on for the past few hours, his mother finally giving in to his whining to use a bit of their precious water to wash his face free from the pollen.

Morain himself had brushed the stuff off impatiently, eager to get to the next village where they could all wash off properly; when Kani came into his tent. Morain scrambled to get up from his sleeping pallet, long silky hair loose and spilling over his shoulders, blinking sleepily at first until she stuck her arms out towards him.

Stifling a yawn he shuffled closer, gently taking her wrist so he could inspect her arm properly, without thinking on whether or not it was contagious. (No one would accuse him of being a healer, but he could almost hear his brother Sol screaming in his ears how foolish he was!)

"Are you in pain?" He asked, brow pinched in worry.

Kani shifted a little to test her limbs, nope no pain, just the itching. It felt like her skin was peeling, but she hadn't gotten a sunburn that she knew of. That wouldn't explain the odd color change peeking under the cracking skin either. Beneath her typical color was much darker than a simple sunburn could have done so suddenly. On top of that she would have figured she wouldn't have been the only one to burn. Morain's skin looked okay, the same pretty pale color it always was.

She momentarily lost her train of thought as she noticed his hair loose, noting she'd never seen it down before and how it looked like a pretty silver wave cascading over his shoulder. He probably thought she was crazy rushing into his space like this, frazzled and rambling about dying. The noise outside his tent had died down, most others settling in and here she was causing a ruckus. She needed to calm herself. That was the first step.

Kani settled down a bit then, focusing on his hold of her wrist and taking a deep breath in before replying to him. "No pain other than an irritating itch. I don't feel sick. But something isn't right. Can you see any other issues I'm missing?" she asked quietly, not wanting to irritate others by being too loud when they were most certainly asleep. She realized Morain himself had probably been sleeping and here she was disturbing him with her problems.

(2/7)

On seeing some sort of skin disease, most people would have flung her arm away and gone to wash off with a frantic disgust. But it was hard to be grossed out when he'd helped wipe grosser things off his younger siblings (and neices/nephews). And besides, it was hard to find Kani gross in any capacity, especially not when she was upset and was scared she was sick!

Morain frowned, gently pushing some of her waves of hair over her shoulder so he could inspect her skin further, noting the same odd scene; cracks like she was made of crystal, and beneath it a darker blue than she'd been before, even along her throat and collarbones where the skin went lighter and speckled.

He was lost in inspecting her skin, too distracted to look at her face until she spoke t ohim again. He hummed, and gently let go of her hand.

"Well, ten fingers, ten toes. That's a good start." He smiled and tilted his head to look at her face - only to pause, blinking.

It wasn't as if he catalogued the exact hue of his companion's eyes, but - he'd seen her in the sun enough times to have a dreamy thoughts about how her eyes looked like honey, a warm and beautiful yellow-orange. Her eyes were still beautiful, but had a new sort of intensity he couldn't put his finger on until - without thinking, he reached to lightly trace his thumb under her eye, along the curve of her cheekbone.

"Your eyes are darker." He breathed, shocked. "That's- erm. Both of them are darker. Just the colored bits, the- the white parts aren't like... Yaeli different or anything."

Kani felt shy under Morain's gaze, cheeks heating as his eyes lingered over her skin. She didn't know what to say in the moment, instead focusing on not panicking as he continued to look her over. She suddenly became very aware of the fact that it felt a bit warm to her in the tent, her heart fluttering in her chest like she had a butterfly trapped inside it. If she wasn't dying from this sudden skin condition perhaps she would end up perishing from the closeness of him.

Their eyes locking, Kani sucked in a shaky breath as his thumb brushed up under her eye and he continued to examine her. His own eyes looked the same as usual, dark and inviting much like the night around them. Morain's mention of her own eyes being darker elicited a gasp from her, fingers reaching to touch under her eye where his thumb had been.

"Are they ugly? A horrid uninviting color? I don't wish to scare anyone with my unsettling gaze," Kani muttered, concern knitting her brows together.

Any panic that Kani showed, Morain attributed to her strange situation. Perhaps it was for the best, because if he knew she was flustered by his attention he might have ruined the moment by coming on a bit too strong, considering what a fragile moment this was for her. All on her own, with only a new friend to help her through such a moment - his heart ached for her. He would be panicking, too, if their situations were reversed.

Morain leaned back to giver her space to inspect herself, already turning away from her to go to his bag, kneeling beside it to shuffle through it. He paused though when she spoke, looking up from his hands with a frown. "Ugly? Absolutely not." He was firm in it, and continued on with renewed vigor - until his hand settled on something silver and cool in his pack.

He removed a silver mirror. It was made without glass, with one side embossed with floral designs; the other was polished so smooth as to be reflective. He stook once more and approached her, removing the protective cloth wrap from it so she could see herself. "I think they're beautiful, just different! It - it looks like the darker colors of the sky, when the sun is setting. Nothing about you could be unsettling, Kani."

Kani was enthralled by the beauty of the mirror, a bit nervous to look at her own reflection as she rested her hands against the sides of its small surface and peeked at her reflection. Another shudder of a gasp spilled from her as she took in the change of her eyes and the cracking skin that revealed the darker tone. She didn't think it looked so bad, but it was jarring to see after she'd grown to expect her typical color for so long. Morain's comments reassured her though, and she smiled as she touched up under her eye again.

"I suppose I will not flee into the mountains then," she chuckled, looking his way. "If you think I really look okay. I've been wanting to change myself so much, so maybe whatever is happening was one of the gods granting my wish."

(4/7)

Morain watched as Kani tentatively accepted the mirror, biting the inside of his cheek nervously as she finally laid eyes on herself. How horrifying must it be, to wake up one day and just - be different? He scooted a little closer, intently watching her face as she inspected the changes. Would she cry?

When she finally laughed, Morain relaxed, though he tilted his head towards her when she continued, eyes softening. He wasn't sure what he felt for the gods; his fathers weren't particularly religious and offered no worship that he could see to any particular deity. However, his father was proof itself that Aisha existed, so he couldn't discount them entirely.

Would a God really change someone so profoundly? Beyond that though... "Are you okay?"

Kani nodded and passed the mirror back to Morain, dusting her hands over herself in an attempt to right herself once more. She'd been so frazzled earlier she hadn't even noticed the odd pollen clinging to her and the disarray of her entire outfit. It was a relief to have Morain's support, even if she was unsure what this change meant for her. She could make it a positive, was trying to be more positive. Her new adventures had no room for her overly cynical nature, and she would do her best to consider the change a good thing like she'd said.

"Yes. Yes I think so. It is a shock, but one I can live with. I just hope my skin decides to settle on a color instead of this strange fissure-like state," she replied, brushing at her arm once more.

(5/7)

Sure enough, there were no tears in her eyes. And yet Morain still felt... well. He didn't know if he wanted to let her leave to spend the rest of the evening alone, still ruminating these strange changes. He doubted she'd be interested in staying in his tent (and even if she was, it might give their companions the wrong idea), but...

He pondered, then brightened up. "Here, sit a moment please?" He shot her a dazzling smile, then moved to his pack where he retrieved his water flask, and some fresh clothes. They were the clothes he'd planned to wear the next day, but they were close enough to the next town that he supposed he could just wear another set and wash them later. He poured a bit of water onto the clothes and, after looking at Kani to make sure she was okay with it, he pulled her arm closer and carefully scrubbed the water over it. He worried it would be like a sunburn, leaving behind tender skin - but the cracks fell away, and revealed more of that pretty blue instead. He washed the pollen and cracks off until, at least, one forearm was freed of the anomaly, then re-wet the cloth and moved to her other arm.

"That looks promising, I think!" Morain finally commented, smiling as he turned her arms to inspect the skin on the inside of her arm and palm, where the pattern of her water blood turned the skin lighter.

Kani sat incredibly still as Morain worked the cloth over her arms. She felt her skin heat once more at his closeness and worried she would make the situation awkward with her own shyness. She was used to being to one to care for others, her father, her brother, and it was an odd sensation to have someone looking out for her even in such a small way.

"I don't want to ruin your lovely clothing," Kani muttered, brows knitting as he continued to use them to clean her up. Guilt tugged at her over it, and she vowed silently that she would repay this kindness in some way. Morain had already done so much for her in such a short time surely there would be something she could do for him.

"Thank you, Morain. For this," she continued to speak softly, hesitantly brushing her fingers against his cheek. "You're very kind."

Ohh, he could tell she was a bit flustered. But, for once, he didn't pounce at the opportunity to flirt with a pretty girl, or say something to make that blush brighter. Call him sentimental, but it didn't seem like the moment to compliment her beauty, or take any liberties when she was vulnerable, or - well. When her suggesting a 'change' was a blessing.

She'd already been beautiful, what could make her so eager to 'change' that something like this was a blessing? It haunted him, more than he had expected. He didn't think he'd have taken it half as well as she was.

"It's just clothes." Morain reassured, infusing more warmth into his words to make up for his own misgivings. Finally, he finished and bundled the cloth up, already opening his mouth to easily dismiss her gratitude -

When a gentle touch settled on his cheek. He blinked at her, surprised, and - this time he felt his ears go warm. HOPEFULLY, she wouldn't be able to tell - thanks to the inky hue of his skin. "Oh, I'm not-- Yeah! Of course - anything you need!" He said instead, heart going a mile a minute. Whattheheck--

"Do you-- think you can sleep? Maybe it'll be better in the morning, right?"
PostPosted: Wed Oct 11, 2023 4:13 pm

Kani smiled and wrapped her arms around Morain in a gentle hug, leaving enough space to let him pull away if she had overstepped her bounds. She was simply glad to have someone like him with her through this. It reassured her that she could continue forward, and Morain was the best sort of company to do so with. The excitement of her new appearance was catching up to her as she attempted to stifle a yawn, sleep wanting to grab hold of her and tug her along. She had to get up, she knew that, she couldn't just stay in his tent overnight. That would look bad for his reputation and she couldn't have that.

"It'll be okay if it doesn't get better. I can live with it. But yes, sleep does sound good," Kani agreed, shifting back and smiling at Morain again.

She gave him one more hug for good measure before completely removing herself from him, moving to stand back up in the small space. "Off I go then. Sweet dreams, Morain."

It was the most gentle, sweet and respectful hug he'd ever had with a girl, so - in a way, it helped calmed him from the spike of feelings he'd just noticed. Morain settled a bit, and lifted an arm to lightly hug her back. Her hair, thick with curls, was soft against his arm, and it was tempting to bury his face in it. Instead he gave her a small squeeze, letting her go when she pulled away again.

Then, she yawned, and it was the cutest thing he'd ever seen, and brought a grin to his face again. She smiled back, and the moment just felt nice. A far cry better than the panic she'd come to him with, just minutes before. "Sweet dreams." He wished to her too, standing up to politely walk her back out of the tent. Her own was only a short walk away, so he lingered, watching until she ducked safely inside, before he slipped back inside, sleepiness creeping back in again.
