He awoke to a beautiful sunrise. The roosters of all species were crowing. It was the regular ranch morning chorus. He still loved that sound, the comfort of many living things all exuberantly singing to the sky and the ladies. He scratched his chest not bothering to look down he put a shirt on and went about his day unaware of anything strange.
Others he found were having more difficult times it seemed. Folks were very excited and shouting and running. When he finally understood after many questions, he was flabbergasted.
Once the weird day was over, he got curious and took off his shirt and examined himself. 'My Gods' he thought, 'my crystals,' no matter how he moved, they stayed the same deep blue color, weird.
It looked like all of that rampant tree magic had gotten to him as well. He wondered who in his family got touched so far as he knew it was a very random mechanism. Well, he hoped Terr liked them. He loved her, even if she were purple. Still, thankfully that was unlikely to happen he hadn't seen anyone develop that skin tone, it was still aparently obeying genetic laws and staying within races instead of painting a disturbed populace all the colors of the rainbow.
And he was pretty confident the same went for her but still who else had had color changes? Mom, Dad, the trips, gods, the trips, what would they make of all this nonsense? He wondered if they would want to change or not who knew? Apparently, it was all up to whim It would suit their changeable nature but he was pretty steady overall. Why had his crystals changed color? Maybe his mother would know he should ask her later.
Thal took a deep breath and thought about what he should do next. Though he was really not sure if there was anything he could really do about this situation. He supposed he would just have to get used to it. No one else happened to be home so he was on his own. He did what he usually did when he was nervous. He worked, nothing better than completing something for the troubled mind. It proved to be true again and again. He hoped that others discovered this trick. He exercised a few beasts fed watered and checked everyone's feet for wounds, rocks or punctures. Every critter he was responsible for seemed to be doing well now. Prevention was the best medicine and if not best to catch things quicker rather than later. At least his hair, skin and eyes still looked right. Of all the things at least it had just been his crystals and still to a nice color. He had no idea why still, it was likely a mystery. They would never solve that. Kind of made him feel uncomfortable. And he was still unsure why. Maybe some lucky soul would figure it out but it wasn't going to be him. Oh well. chores were done. Maybe he would go back to town and try to sniff out more information.
Weird stuff like this was very, very rare. But this seemed to be happening to select folks who were exposed to the pollen from the tendaji great trees. He supposed with how far this had come that all of tendaji perhaps would be affected except perhaps those very far out to sea. It only affected those with earthling blood and left pure blooded non earthlings alone completely.
He wanted to learn as much about it as he could it was new and very exciting. He wondered what the others would think of it, particularly his parents. It was his father's crystals that had basically been repainted. He wondered if his old crystals or his new crystals given to any further children if he and tear had any more. He hoped they would. He was happy that the triplets could nearly completely look after themselves. Now it was fine. Time for more but he didn't want to bug tear she had born him three rabid sons. She would have to make the decision to have children again. He adored that woman like the seven C's loved the sun. He never got tired of being around her for your spirit for life. Tara was his hero and somehow she knew just how to wrangle their exuberant pack of children that together were all the more terrifying he grinned. He loved their kids. They were not that many chill people in his family.
