Quote: Bat Behemoth (2) - Construction, deforestation, typical Destiny City mishaps–you never know what you’re going to get around here. It starts with a squeak in the sky, and the flapping of heavy wings. If it’s dark enough, maybe you don’t even see the giant bat descending on you. They were pests a few years ago but seemed to have cleared out for the most part–except for a stray one here or there. This one is large even by comparison. It has an eight foot wingspan–a behemoth, growing fat and large in the years since the bats last descended on Destiny City. Maybe you’re lucky, maybe it just swoops by. Maybe it’s hungry, or mad, and you look like a prime target. If it attacks, you’re in for a rough time. Scratches cause an itch that might last for up to a day, but the bites are the worst. Being bitten by these bats leaves two small marks that will itch for a few hours. Then, exhaustion and fatigue sets in and you become extremely sensitive to external stimulus; skin feels like it becomes overheated in sunlight, bright lights are painful to the eyes, and smells and sounds can seem overwhelming. The victim will feel constantly cold and hungry, no matter how much they eat or drink. They may also be prone to agitation and bouts of violence. These afflictions may last only a few hours or a few days and then suddenly disappear. (Being attacked by the bat can be counted as a battle once per character provided there are at least two powered characters involved; no matter how much you seem to damage the bat, it will always fly away and hardly even seems worse for the wear. You cannot track it or severely damage it. This prompt can be used for the battle or the afterwards of being attacked, or anything else you might be inspired to play!) Follow the auras, the advice had worked so far, and Mechelen was still quite fired up after going to Neptune, so going out for another patrol and feeling another Page nearby only filled her with glee.
Absolute, utter glee and when she saw the pretty purple clad young woman she waved in eager excitement. “Hey! Hi! I’m Mechelen, Page of Lysithea! I hope you don’t mind me coming to say hi…my mentor told me to follow auras so that’s what I’ve been doing and…yeah!”
She hadn’t felt any bad auras, and so was absolutely not on guard…and when the sudden pain as she was bitten by something large…was that a bat?
“What…what the Hell is that thing?”
Oh s**t. Well…at least she wasn’t alone to try and fight it…right?
“I didn’t even feel it coming! There isn’t…it doesn’t…”
Her hand reached up and covered the spot on her shoulder where the bat had bitten and she gave a stumbling run away from the massive thing. “I can’t kick that!”

Sonora liked being a Page. She got to power up, and be magical, and honor her Princess, and it was just...a really, really good gig. Plus, it gave her something to do with her evenings, which had previously mostly been occupied with her cat.
Also, there were always fun and exciting people to meet.
So, she met the new Page with a smile, and a wave.
"Sonora of Ida," she introduced herself, cheerily--though her cheery introduction gave way to a frown very quickly, because that was a very large bat.
And it had no aura. None of the icky feeling she had come to associate with youma.
"We need to run," she told her new friend, but at the same time, she brought up her little folding fan and hurled it, as hard as she could, at the bat-monster's nose.
"Go away!"
She hated that sometimes, being a Page meant she had to fight. But Murikabushi had told her that youma needed to be defeated, that they would just hurt people, and that it wasn't really killing them, so...maybe this was like that. Or maybe the two of them could chase it away.

“It bit me, so watch out for that…it definitely doesn’t tickle.”
Honestly, Mechelen envied Sonora the fact that she could throw her weapon and it…well. Actually go somewhere. Her one small piece of fabric simply wiggled a bit and then fell when it was thrown, and that…was less than useless. Though…she broke into a run, reaching out and grabbing hold of Sonora’s hand, trying to make sure they both got away without the bat biting one of them again.
Luckily, the creature seemed rather distracted by the fan which had hit its ugly face. It screeched and swooped on the fan, beginning to rend it to pieces with sharp claws.
Well…good. Better it than them.
Mechelen tugged the other page with her until they were far enough away that the screeching of the creature could no longer be heard and then she sank slowly to the ground, breathing heavily.
“...That wasn’t like. That wasn’t a normal monster that we’re supposed to fight, right? Like, I wasn’t just losing my mind…I could’t feel it or anything…?”
Looking to Sonora, Mechelen really hoped that she would be told that she was correct…and that the creature wasn’t normal.
Well. Normal for the youma that ran around the city.

When the other Page grabbed her hand, Sonora went, unresistingly. She did not want to fight. Did not like fighting. Did not want to have a part in any of the violence that was so much a part of magical life. (And that was totally unfair, if you asked her. Magic sohuld be magic, and fun, and free, and not...not war, and fighting, and all the awfulness of ordinary, mundane life, but now you had a fancy outfit and sparkly powers. It sucked and Sonora wanted better.)
Running, though, running she could do, hand in hand with a new friend and escaping shitty terrible peril together.
At least she'd provided an effective distraction, and her weapon would be whole and fine next time she called on ti to power up.
"No, that was definitely super weird," Sonora agreed. "Youma...they always feel so...icky, you know? The absolute worst vibes on the planet? But this thing didn't feel like that at all. It didn't feel like...anything."
Which was almost scarier. Everyone who said the devil you knew was better than the devil you didn't was completely one hundred percent correct.
Ugh, Sonora didn't like that at all. who knew what else might be out there?
"Have you run into anything else weird, like that? And are you okay? It looked like that thing got you pretty good." Oh, Sonora wished she had magic, like Kerberos. He could have fixed Mechelen right up. But all she had was some first aid stuff she'd started carrying in subspace. "I have bandages and Neosporin and stuff, if it's bleeding or anything like that?"

“It doesn’t really hurt anymore, but it kind of itches. I'm sure it’s one of those things that I shouldn’t scratch but knowing that just makes me want to do it more.” Mechelen felt rather sheepish as she said this but…it was the truth. She often had the bad habit to do what she knew she shouldn’t. Picking scabs or scratching bug bites were some of the most common but…
Maybe since this bite was on her neck she’d…forget about it with time.
“No, nothing like that, like…monster like…just a youma when I first became a Page…and like, I’ve been up to Space but…that also wasn’t anything like this…this…was like some kind of a horror movie or something.”
Leaning forward slightly, Mechelen allowed Sonora to do what she wanted with her neck and start getting her fixed up as best she could. “...Do you think it was like. A horror movie? Is that something that’s possible? I suppose. I suppose anything is possible here.”

Sonora nodded, and she reached into subspace, pulling out the little red first aid case and going to work carefully cleaning the injury and then applying some antibiotic cream and a big bandaid to cover it.
"Sorry I don't have anything cute," she said, "but all my adorable bandaids are kinda on the smaller side." And the big bite mark did sort of require a bit more.
"I don't know everything that's possible," Sonora admitted, "I've only been a Page for a couple months, but...whatever that was, it was real and magic." She shivered. "Do you want to stick together? I'm not ready to go home yet, but I don't want to meet any more nasty monsters alone."

“The only time it really matters that the bandaid is cute is when you can see it…I don’t mind that it’s not super cute when it’s on my neck…this one actually needs to serve a purpose which…sucks but. I get it.”
The idea of sticking together was one that honestly brought a balm to Mechelen’s fear and she nodded. “I think…that sounds really good, honestly. Tonight has been…a lot and the idea of not having to go it alone is…really, really nice…so yeah. I’d love to take you up on that!”
Hopefully…she’d be able to go to her Wonder at some point soon and then she could really keep in touch with all of these new friends she had been making…but. Still…she just wasn’t ready. Still…hopefully it wouldn’t be much longer!
