Shinken was born at the height of the Uchiha Senju clan war. His mother was killed only a 6 months after he was born. His father was a prominent and well respected clan member, but he took the loss of his wife badly. His heart hardened and his hatred of the Senju only grew stronger. As Shinken grew older his father put him through harsh and unforgiving training. He always knew to stop before any permanent damage was done, but Shinken spent most of his youth bruised and battered. His father frequently told him how cruel and dangerous the Senju were and how they had killed his mother. He told Shinken that he needed to be strong enough to defend not only himself, but the people he cared about.
As the war raged on Shinken finally came of age to fight. He went on many missions with a team of three other Uchiha, but eventually they got into a situation they couldn't handle. The Senju, Nara and Akamich clans had allied and laid an ambush for the unsuspecting Uchiha. Shinken's teammates fought bravely and managed to thin the enemy numbers, but they were overwhelmed. Overcome with rage and grief Shinken's Sharingan awakened with two tomoe in one eye and three in the other. He quickly adapted to his new sensory abilities and dispatched the remaining Senju with a combination of his Ninjutsu and Now enhanced Taijutsu skills.
The war continued on for another year before Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha staged their final deciding battle. When they killed each other the Clan was left leaderless and infighting ensued leaving the Uchiha Vulnerable to The Senju who's leadership had quickly and smoothly passed to Tobirama Senju. The Senju, Nara, Akamichi, Yamanaka, and Hyuuga clans attacked in unison and the Uchiha fought bravely, but they could not hope to match the combined might of the clans without a solid chain of command. Countless Uchiha died in the assault, but Shinken's father Daikoku Uchiha managed to organize a stealthy retreat by sacrificing the clan members that refused to flee.
Now in hiding the Uchiha clan fled to the land of water where they began to rebuild. They formed Haigakure, the village hidden in the Ash. A reference to the plan to rise from the ashes like a phoenix. Daikoku was nearly unanimously elected as leader of the village, and he began the long slow process of reclaiming the Uchiha's former glory. He encouraged members of the Uchiha clan to have many children, and there were many missions to find rare and powerful clans to recruit to the village. Some were successful and some were not. In the end 5 entire clans and some individuals gifted with elemental release Kekkei Genkai decided to join the village.
In the years that followed a ninja ranking system based first on your combat capabilities and secondarily on your utility in the field was formed. Knowing that the Hidden leaf and other villages had already created a three tiered system Daikoku declared that the hidden ash too would adopt these ranks. Though there was no exam to progress past the initial Gennin stage. Instead
you earned the title through your accomplishments and combat prowess. Shinken was automatically given the rank of Jounin.
An academy for young ninja's to learn before being approved for missions was formed. This academy was even harsher than the training Shinken had undergone as a child. If students couldn't make the cut they died. Daikou made the risks clear to anyone who enrolled in the academy He also explained that it would make the village stronger overall if only truly capable ninja graduated, and that training with death as a possible consequence was the only way to truly prepare ninja for real combat.
Shinken didn't completely agree with his father's methods but he understood the value in strong shinobi that had already faced death and survived. He also knew that training in such a harsh environment was far more likely to result in Uchiha with activated sharingan which would provide an invaluable edge when they finally decided to strike back at the leaf village.
7 Years after the founding of the Village hidden in the ash Shinken met his future wife Kureiko. At first the two of them clashed, and she grated on his nerves. But as the years went by he got to know her better and then he fell in love. They got married two years ago and have been trying to have a child for the past year. Recently Shinken woke up and Kureiko was gone. She had left him a letter explaining that she had fled the Village Hidden in the Ash because his father planned to murder her. Shinken is furious with his father but still plays the part of loyal son until he can bring Kureiko back to the hidden Ash.
