It had been a week since Tryston had lost Constynce in Oba. The ice warrior had worked nonstop to try and locate his companion, the man twisting whatever arms he could while waiting on correspondence from the north. Apparently Serana had found some news about corrupted nobles in Oba, one in particular who had worked with her own parents years ago, and it seemed like the man would be a good lead in all of this. Why he was interfering with things now, especially after the Brotherhood had kicked out the traitors and reorganized into a healthy guard again full of loyal warriors who would protect Zena rather than abuse those living there, was beyond Tryston but that was the least of his worries at the moment. Regardless of some corrupted noble, Constynce was missing and kidnapped by thugs who had a grudge against the Brotherhood. It was that group which Tryston chased down, the ice warrior gaining whatever information he could from the underground before finally reaching a noble’s mansion towards the edge of Sulburi. It looked like the once wealthy had fallen over the years, the gates slightly crooked and the guards there appearing more like thugs and less like loyal soldiers one would expect from Oba’s finest. Now at the beginning of dusk, the desert sun a crimson orb slowly sinking behind the sand dunes in the horizon, the iceling once more crept forward like the rogue he had been years ago when on the run from the corrupted Brotherhood.
A scarf was wrapped tightly around his head, the dark material protecting his blue skin and preventing others from seeing the icy features which made him stand apart from most, and his heavier armor had been exchanged for leathers that were both more comfortable in the heat and quieter so that he could sneak easily through the shadows around the edges of the manor. One pair of guards were down, Tryston had gotten to them when they had freshly swapped in for their rotation on the side gate, and now it was up to him to sneak around the manor itself and try to find a way in that wouldn’t arouse too much suspicion. The second floor windows looked promising, one with a balcony already catching his attention, and Tryston quickly started to work his way up there by using the crevices in the older sandstone, the cracks giving his boots purchase as he climbed.

It was difficult to keep track of the passing time. It seemed like it had only been a couple days, but it also seemed like a month had passed. Despite her convictions to escape the ship, every attempt had born little fruit. She had actually gotten up to the deck on her first attempt thanks to having the element of surprise, but that was the extent of her success. As inexperienced as she was in the art of escaping, the crew was experienced in keeping captives. After she had made it clear that she was trying to get out of their clutches, they tightened their grip all the more.
One saving grace was found upon the arrival to Sulburi. The lord of the mansion was away on business for a few days, which meant Constynce had been tucked away to just sit and wait for her fate. And that was when her chance came. The lord was supposed to arrive any time now, and the staff and thugs were busy going about out their tasks to prepare for his arrival. A single crewman had been spared to make sure she was made presentable before the lord arrived. Even Constynce wasn't quite sure how she had done it; one moment she had been struggling with all her might, and then next found the servant lying unconscious on the floor. Even more amazing, the guard outside of the room had darted inside and somehow joined his cohort on the ground.
Constynce crept down the hall, mind focused only on getting away before she was sent for. She had been held up long enough, and this was likely her last chance to get out! She needed to go find Tryston and make sure he was okay. She had to share the most amazing, wonderful news with him! Oh, and warn the brotherhood. That was important, too. She couldn't move very fast though, this level of the mansion rather like a maze to one not used to the layout.
It was an unfortunately short amount of time before a very angry guard woke up and a call of alarm echoed through the halls behind her...

Dammit. Another empty room. Tryston ahd managed to kick in a window, hoping the room that seemed the most secured would be the one to hold Constynce but it was empty and quiet. That was until an angry yell in a nearby room caught his attention, making the warrior back up into the shadows as figures darted across the doorway in pursuit of someone. "Constynce." The name brought a small, hopeful smile to his lips even as worry also took root in his heart. What if it wasn't Constynce who had done this? Could someone else be involved and invading the manor at this very moment? The very thought made his hand tighten around the hilt of his sword, Tryston prepared to cut down anyone who stood in his way towards his beloved. Still, he remained as cool as ice as he continued forward and quickly slipped up behind two confused guards who crumpled up as he smacked the blunt of his blade against the back of their skulls. It wouldn't kill them, but they would have nasty headaches for the rest of the day whenever they did wake up finally.
Eventually after dragging another body under some heavy draperies, Tryston found himself turning a corner and spotting a familiar figure creeping down a side hallway. Unfortunately for Constynce there was another guard nearby, one that Tryston had spotted before the rustling of fabric had caught his attention and pulled him towards this direction instead. He had seen the dead end of that hallway though and knew it was only minutes before the guard started this way and so, without waiting for anything else to go awry, Tryston darted forward and grabbed at Constynce to pull her into a smaller side room. His fingers had moved to cover her lips, the ice warrior only letting go once the door closed quietly behind them and the guard's heavy footsteps passed further down the hallway. Slowly Tryston took a step backwards, giving Constynce space and hoping she wouldn't panic as he gave her time to realize it was him.

Constynce felt her knees begin to tremble and reached out to press her hand against the wall for support. She should have found some way to restrain the guard. His stomping boots thudded down the hall loud enough to combat the blood pounding in her ears. If only she'd had more time before he'd woken up. At least this was better than nothing. She still had a chance now that she wasn't being held by- The quick hand muffled her scream as she was swept away into the other room. She struggled against the grip, but the hints managed to catch her attention. The grip was firm but not cruel. There were no threats shot into her ear. The guard out in the hall was not alerted...
It was too much to hope for. Surely a trick!
She couldn't help it when she jumped forward as she was released. Her hands grabbed the first thing she could use as a weapon; a simple board that had fallen from the ceiling. Then she turned, the board held up and ready to swing. "Tryston!" she gasped out, her voice barely above a whisper from disbelief. Tryston's observations would find her looking worn out with a few visible bruises, but her joyous relief still lit her face as she threw herself into his arms. Of course he had found her. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry.." she murmured against his shirt as she clutched herself close to him briefly. How nice it would have been to just linger in the reunion...
"You must get word to the council and Serana. They're going after Zena again." She looked up and shook her head plaintively. Why was it like this? "He.. he said my grandparents aren't safe." More than Zena, she worried for her home that was supposedly no longer safe from threats. Perhaps it was selfish, but she couldn't pretend otherwise.

Well at least Constynce was ready to fight. Tryston couldn't help a flicker of pride at the sight even though it was concerning to see Constynce forced into such a position, especially when the board was aimed against him. She had managed to free herself as well though the presence of the wandering guards made him worried about what would have occured had he not appeared. It was one thing to escape and another thing to fight off a group of ruffians who didn't seem to care about the safety of their captives. As Constynce collapsed into his arms, Tryston held her tightly and placed a gentle kiss on top of her head to reassure her. She was fine, this wasn't her fault...if anything it was his own for not realizing that danger still lurked around every corner. Was his life just cursed to be full of fighting with no time for peace? They hadn't been away from Zena for more than a couple of months before this attack, why? Still, despite the warning about Zena the iceling took a moment to inspect Constynce instead. "Are you alright?" He asked quietly, his worried gaze glancing over everything and noting her appearance. Did she appear to have lost weight? Dammit. How horribly had they been treating her? Why even kidnap her in the first place?!
Though now that her words registered Tryston was quickly piecing together things. "Hmm." If they were going after Zena again then it meant that this was part of a ploy...though he was already out of Zena, they simply hadn't realized that he had passed his position back to Lyrie. Tryston let out a soft sigh and looked towards the ceiling as if it would offer him guidance, a sure sign of his frustration since he was a man of few words. Still, as he took a few seconds to calm himself the warrior simply tucked back a stray strand of hair behind Constynce's ear. Right now what mattered most to him was getting her to safety, perhaps even stopping to punish the culprit behind this mess. Though if he understood the situation then it would only be the noble here that he would have to take care of which would probably fall perfectly into the other Zenan's plan. Tryston's gaze narrowed thoughtfully. When he was younger and more reckless that would have escaped his notice, but everything was adding up in a horrible way. "We need to leave." As much as he hated the idea of leaving instead of dealing with someone who had helped to orchestrate so much suffering for the Brotherhood simply for greed. Now that he knew the property, had learned the noble's name from interrogating some guards along the way to find Constynce punishment could be inflicted in a different way since this country was not in his jurisdiction. He simply didn't want the hassle of dragging some corrupt Oban all the way to Zena when there was an actual Zenan who he could deal with in more traditional ways without threatening conflict between the countries. He had a vacation still to enjoy with Constynce...it would be a shame to get banned in Oba so soon, not when they had yet to fully explore the warmer countries like Oba and Matori. Unfortunately though it meant getting word quickly to Serana and rushing back towards Zena to fight the b*****d personally since he was probably already gone from this place.
It truly did feel like everything was being orchestrated. Tryston's body tensed as he heard shouting from outside the estate, Oban soldiers arriving to deal with the arrival of the corrupted noble in question who had his personal guards already fighting and those inside running to join the conflict. "What about the leaf woman?!" He held Constynce close as they listened to a pair of guards arguing as they ran down the hallway. "It's not important, not when we have to get out of here! Unless ya prefer grabbin' some woman and increasin' the odds of being thrown into some dungeon!" That most definitely was their cue to leave. Tryston glanced towards the window and around the room thoughtfully. Did they risk the hallway or climb? His gaze slid down to Constynce, his expression questioning as he worried about what path would be best for her in the moment.

Being back in Tryston's arms didn't make everything better, but it certainly helped. Constynce looked up at the question and gave a small nod. "Yes, I'm okay." She knew it could have gone much worse for her, but she'd had that fragile bubble of protection for the planned meeting with this supposed lord of the manor. Her own brow knit now as she reached to gently inspect where Tryston had been injured before. If her slip had made him worse... The touch at her ear made her close her eyes and press her face into the doting hand. Part of her knew it would have been best to take advantage of their position and get more answers now rather than later, but Constynce didn't argue at the order to leave. She had no desire to get in the middle of another confrontation, and they were on their own. She couldn't risk her precious discovery and more than had already been necessary.
She looked up with surprise at the rising sounds from outside the manor. It sounded like an all-out brawl! The shouting passing the door made Constynce burrow against Tryston further. She held her breath as though afraid it would give them away. Despite the situation, she got a little relief out of what they'd heard through the door. She'd never been their main focus anyway... She looked up at Tryston with concern at the thought. She had just been an opportunity grab. If they'd gotten Tryston instead, who knows what would have happened! She noticed the look and also glanced at the window, understanding instantly. "Whatever's happening out there, they should be too busy to notice the windows." Now wasn't the time to hesitate any further.

"He turned against the noble..." The quiet explanation left Tryston's lips as he slowly released Constynce so that they could navigate towards the tall window. The stained glass did blur their vision so he wasn't certain exactly how safe it would be, but they could force it open for a quick escape which would be far easier than going down the main stairs and risking either the thugs or the Oban soldiers. How could they explain their presence here, after all? There was a myriad of guards from various countries, why would they believe that he wasn't caught up in this somehow? If they got caught and then thrown behind bars until it was all sorted out....such a process could take weeks if not months if they were even believed. Tryston didn't know much about Oban society and politics nor did he want to find out and take a gamble with their time being so limited. Thankfully the iceling had brought rope for climbing, the sturdy material proving itself as he removed it from his satchel and twisted it in his hands to test its strength. His silvery gaze slid around the room before settling on what appeared to be a solid wardrobe full of clothing from whoever normally slept in this particular room. All Tryston could do was hope that it was heavy enough to support them on their way down....more noises down the hallway, the sounds of clashing weapons getting increasingly louder, forced him to make a hasty decision. The wardrobe would have to do. Tryston's jaw clenched at the realization but he wasted no time in tightly tying the room to the thing, twisting and knotting it around the heavier bottom to secure their escape.
Now to check out the window...Tryston had to hold back a curse as he realized it was locked tight. It wasn't as if they had the luxury of going to pick another room either, not with the fighting erupting throughout the manor now that the soldiers had breached the outer defenses. An armored gauntlet on his arm would protect him from the glass...well from enough of it at least. Tryston glanced at Constynce and pointed towards the wardrobe, nodding towards her in a silent order to step back as he braced himself to take care of the window. There would be no time for pick pocketing a lock, not with the crowd getting closer, and so he used the hilt of his blade to slam into the window and held up an arm to protect himself as the colorful glass shattered into hundreds of pieces and rained down onto the ground below. Plucking a stray piece that had managed to embed itself into his leather armor, Tryston stayed calm and simply moved to brush off the remaining sharp edges of glass from the stone frame that was now empty. Without the stained glass blocking their view they could now see that there was a smaller courtyard below. It wasn't connected to the main courtyard where fighting was still happening, this one seemed to be a more private garden at one point that had desert flowers and even a dried out fountain which surely was lovely in the past before recent events, Tryston assumed the downfall of the corrupted brothers and merchants had affected funding here, which had led to the slow decline of the estate.
Either way it didn't look like anything dangerous was down there, not even the few scattered statues were in the way with only an open path seemingly below them. Once they dropped down then they could circle around and try to find an opening in the outer walls or whatever they could figure out until things calmed down. All Tryston knew was that their time inside was limited, there were far too many enemies and he had no idea of the layout of the estate to even try to think of hiding within its walls. So with that in mind he tossed the rope over the wall, watching as it swung down to nearly touch the ground, and then he turned towards Constynce. "I can lower you, if you don't want to climb." Or she could maybe even hang onto his back? Tryston pondered the possibilities before ultimately knew it was Constynce's decision and that he would support her however he could.

Constynce could hardly believe her ears. Though, it wasn’t all that far-fetched. No honor amongst thieves, after all. It meant that Izotz was an even bigger problem that she had initially thought. It had to be him. Still, if the plan had been to take down the noble, then why had she been spared so much? Perhaps it had been a last minute action? She didn’t see Izotz acting on impulse unless forced into it, as he had with her entering their clutches. The 'why' could be figured out later though. It still meant one less unknown enemy to deal with, and she was grateful for it.
Released from that comforting embrace, Constynce remained close to offer whatever help she could. Though afraid, she felt empowered by her lone escape not long ago. She had managed that on her own and she wasn't about to be anyone's captive again. She winced at the sharp break of the glass, but it couldn't be helped. She hurried to look out the window and sighed softly. Her belly felt sour from worry and this certainly wasn't helping. Yet, Tryston's words managed to earn a little smile from her. "I can do this." It had been a while since she had climbed a tree or anything of the like, but at least they would be climbing down rather than up! She grabbed the rope and carefully climbed through the window. The sounds of the fight were even clearer from there and she looked around warily. All it would take is one person attempting to flee the fight their way to cause a problem. Adrenaline got her through the climb, and she waved up to Tryston when her feet touched the ground.

Tryston glanced over Constynce, his expression full of concern but then he nodded his approval as she reassured him that she could climb down. It was hard to not want to be overprotective of Constynce, especially considering how much they had been through together and how deeply their relationship had developed in recent months, but he had also learned to trust her. She had already gotten out on her own, after all, and he had faith in her abilities….it was just hard to not worry, that was all. The iceling glanced around the room one final time, his gaze narrowing as he took a moment to listen to the sounds of fighting that echoed throughout the estate. It was hard to pinpoint an exact area for the noise, there was simply too much movement throughout the whole property with the few servants rushing about to try and avoid the chaos with some picking up what they could with no intention of ever returning to this place while the rest fought against the soldiers who kept pushing forward. It was a drastic difference from his own order, the Brotherhood would have been united against any type of assault instead of scrambling to protect their own hides...that much Tryston had to believe in after exiling the corrupted and reassembling their ranks.
After confirming that no one else was rushing down the hallway outside of their current location, Tryston locked the door and turned towards the window to keep an eye on Constynce as she climbed down. His fingers had been digging into the stone frame, his gaze bright as he watched her swinging down until finally she touched the ground and his grip relaxed. He held a hand up in an awkward wave back, the iceling taking one final glance around before quickly jumping over and slinging his legs over the ledge so that he could begin his own descent. The stone of the Oban manor was warm from the late morning sun, the light bouncing from some windows and nearly threatening to blind him during his descent until thankfully a thin strand of clouds stretched across the scorching sun to block out some of the light. The taste of sand was ingrained into the faint breeze that rustled his cloak as he finally touched the ground, a reminder that Tryston held no enjoyment of the desert and was more than ready to return to the colder northern lands.
Of course, the shadow across the sun blotted out movement that he may have seen while descending. Instead Tryston simply listened as it appeared the fighting was still mostly within the manor and around the front gate of the estate. One hand lingered around the hilt of his sword, just in case, while the other reached out towards Constynce should she wish to take his hand. Unfortunately the moment that his fingers brushed against her hand was when someone tumbled from an archway, the entrance to the side garden almost lost amongst the hanging vines that had taken over and were struggling to survive with their dried and browning leaves. The middle-aged Oban man that stumbled out was covered in dirt and blood, his fine silks torn and battered from having escaped the fighting, and his crimson gaze narrowed in absolute rage whenever he noticed that he was not alone in his escape route. That feeling only intensified when he realized it was a woman from Tale and a Zenan man lingering here, the ones that he instantly blamed for this in his fury. “You!” The noble boomed, his voice wavering with emotion as he pointed a dagger towards the pair, rushing towards them in his desperation. “You did this! I had so much and it’s all been ruined! I’ll be damned if I let some soldiers take me to rot in some dungeons, not when I was supposed to be drowning in wealth by now!”
Tryston’s hand lowered from where he had been reaching out towards Constynce, the warrior moving as he reacted towards the dagger rushing towards them. A stinging sensation along his upper back protected Constynce from being stabbed instead, Tryston wincing before twisting to face the noble who had taken a few steps back to get space again. The man bounced from foot to foot, adrenaline fueling his moves as he looked between the pair of earthlings and towards an area of the wall that seemingly held nothing for him. A secret exit, perhaps? It motivated Tryston to take a step to the side, placing his body in the way so that the Oban couldn’t easily escape. “Greed did you in.” Tryston replied, taking a step forward while the noble took another frantic step to the side, realizing his mistake now that Tryston was blocking the path. Even though his expression was collected, there was a fury burning in Tryston’s gaze that made the silver orbs molten as he stared down the Oban.

Though she glanced around the garden, Constynce was having difficulty focusing on her surroundings. She was relieved to be out of the manor, but being worried about her family, feeling nauseated, and a week of sleepless nights were taking their tole. All she wanted now was to get a nice bath and to find some cozy hole to curl up in for a week. It was too soon to relax at all, but the temptation was tugging hard at her. She even gave a hopeful smile as she reached out to take Tryston's hand once he reached for her.
The sudden arrival made her tense up as her gaze shot over with surprise. The pure anger on the man's face made her instinctively shrink back, and the shout earned a scream of fright. Her mind flashed back to a similar scene back in Zena, even feeling cold air along her skin as the shining blade swept toward her. This time though, she wasn't alone. She snapped back to the present with a gasp as Tryston jumped to cover her. The dagger! Oh Tryston! Gods, they were so close to getting away. Why now? Her teeth bared with that rare anger as she bent to pick up one of the many solid plant pots lying in what used to be a stylish and careful manner; now as decrepit looking as the rest of the manor. It wasn't the heaviest pot, but she could lift it and it would hurt like hell if it were to hit someone. She had things to protect! "Get away from us," she growled, poised to swing the pot if needed.

“Gladly. Just move out of my damn way.” Snarled the Oban, his resolve to harm either of the two earthlings before him faltering at the sight of the pottery turned weapon. The ice warrior was collected and there was a large blade on him, but something about the woman felt additionally ferocious which somehow made the Oban even more nervous. The fallen noble was too skittish to think properly, the sounds of soldiers approaching from the side making him dart forward again, and Tryston moved to the side as he tried to race past. Nodding towards Constynce, Tryston knocked the Oban with the hilt of his blade so that he went sprawling to the side. So much for a ferocious opponent. He could only shake his head as the man rolled on the ground, blood gathering around his temples from the impact. Did he hit him too hard? Tryston frowned before shaking his head and deciding to take the path while they could. The soldiers were quickly approaching and it was best to let Oban justice deal with their own corruption.
“Let’s go.” They could get out of here taking this path and then from there….well they had options. A healer, some food or just a safe place to rest and catch up before returning towards Zena. What if they were too late? Could he get word to them in time for a warning? The very thought made Tryston’s stomach twist. They had to stop yet another plot…he had to place his faith in Lyrie and Serana to be able to handle things until he could arrive to help stop the villain who threatened their home. After all, he had worried over Constynce and yet she had proven capable enough to escape her own prison. Tryston’s gaze softened at the thought, the warrior checking over Constynce for any injuries before starting forward through the secret passage that could get them away from the soldiers and the chaos of the now burning estate.

Constynce tensed even further as the Oban moved to bypass them. It was a strange feeling, actually wanting to hit someone for the principle of the moment. He was part of why she had been captive after all! Tryston seemed to act on the thoughts from her mind though, and she couldn't help a sour smirk as she glanced at the crumpled body. It was almost comical. At this point, she just did not even care if the man was okay or not after everything they'd been through... The thought scared her a little, but that was a thought for later.
She grabbed Tryston's hand and held it tight as he guided her along, though her other hand kept a death-grip on the pot.. Ah, so a secret passage was what the other man had been aiming for! She followed along without a word, listening to the yelling and the crackling flames that echoes after them. Just knowing that fate had been so narrowly avoided... After a short minute, she gave Tryston's arm a small tug. She knew better than to mess with their momentum and there was so much to do, but hadn't Tryston just been stabbed? "Let me see how bad it is. Please." She could at least pack it to slow any further bleeding until they got the the healer!

Tryston was content to keep pushing forward, the ice warrior prioritizing getting Constynce to safety over his own injury. Still whenever she tugged at him to stop the man paused, his gaze flickering over the leaf woman before he looked around once more to contemplate their situation. Eventually he nodded, willing to listen to Constynce since he wanted to ease her mind, and Tryston managed to find an alcove that they could hide away in. They were close to an exit, it sounded like the sounds of fighting were dying down or at least fading since they had gotten some distance away and he could only hope that the whole area wasn’t barricaded outside of the estate. It would be a lot trickier to explain their presence and he truly didn’t want to get caught up in foreign politics…especially not when they had to send word as quickly as possible to Zena.
Trying his best to not wince, Tryston slowly tore off his top and turned his bare back towards Constynce for inspection. The cut there was shallow but long and there was blood that made it almost hard to fully remove his tunic since it had tried to stick to his skin. All he could do was stand patiently so that she could inspect him while keeping an ear out for any other surprises.

Constynce bit her lip as the layers fell from Tryston's back to reveal the wound. Her eyes instantly watered at the sight. Injured protecting her... She had tried so hard... One hand reached out to delicately brush her fingers just below the damaged flesh to inspect it. Relief shot through her belly when she realized it wasn't too deep of a cut, but it would still need to be seen by a healer. Her eyes flicked over to his arm to peek at that previous injury as well. He had been bleeding so much the last time she had seem him...
Though she knew they had to get moving, she couldn't help herself as she pressed close against the bare, cool skin of Tryston's back. She inhaled deeply and pressed a soft kiss as tears of relief slid down her cheeks. He was really there. If they'd lost him... "I missed you," she whispered weakly as she fought off another wave of nausea.

Strange how once he would have refused to show any injuries to anyone really, especially Constynce. Now though Tryston fully trusted his dear companion and respected her strength and endurance. Tryston waited until she pressed a light kiss to finally move, the iceling letting out a soft breath as he reached to find a hand to squeeze in reassurance. "I'm sorry." He managed quietly since he blamed himself for their separation. He was supposed to be her protector who was showing her the world but instead he had led her straight into danger once more. Tryston closed his eyes tightly, relieved that Constynce was behind him and not able to see the pain that crossed his features. Would she ever be happy as long as she was connected to him? If she had stayed home and married the other man...would she be content now in a safe and stable place? Tryston's gaze slowly opened at the thought as he simply shook off the feelings. It was a bit too late for that now, right? It may not be completely true, but he wanted to be greedy....maybe this was his punishment for not wanting to let go of that warmth that spread across his back as Constynce stayed next to him. What if he hadn't gotten here in time? Was it just fate that they couldn't stay together? Tryston took a breath before focusing on the situation at hand. There was no time to mope when there was so much danger around them. They had to get to safety and quickly.
"Past the market...there may be a healer." He managed finally, Tryston moving to finally face Constynce. His conflicted emotions were bottled up once more save for that gentle expression that slipped through as he tucked back a stray strand of her hair, the warrior's calloused fingers lingering by her face before he pulled away so that he could slip his tunic carefully back on. "Can you manage?" It should only be a few more blocks away...if they could just avoid the remaining soldiers and those fleeing the estate. Something just felt off about Constynce though and it made him worry, the iceling was more inclined to take her to a healer over tending to his own injuries. Those could be easily bandaged but he was more worried about whatever it was that could be wrong. Maybe she just needed a decent meal? He could only imagine whatever she had to endure while captured...later once they had rested he would see if she would like to discuss things.
