Garbage Cat

Faustite didn't know what to think about Tama now. It had been fairly evident that he was the most reliable cat on the team, with Haymitch being better suited for emotional support and Magnus being too new to have proven his mettle with technical requests. Tama was also setting out on his own projects, stubbornly without informing Faustite before asking him to talk to Axinite. He'd been a constant presence and a contributing member to the team and its many, many senshi. But the events of Faustite's halfassed death party left him feeling… Conflicted.

When it was first brought to his attention that his shield glove bracelet could be improved, Faustite sat on that knowledge for a time. He understood how it might benefit Aelius and Waru better if Albite could pick through memories, or if Aelius could see them again such that the conversation had a point of emotional connection without Albite bursting into tears and leaving Aelius horribly confused. He understood all of these points. But how did he act on them now, in light of everything?

Faustite laced his fingers behind the nape of his neck as he stared down at the bracelet. There was certainly no way he could ******** with it himself, not without breaking the damned thing. And all the agents and senshi he knew with a technical persuasion were busy with their own projects. He all but had to call that cat.

But maybe — just maybe — he'd feel a little less mired in feelings about it if he summoned Magnus, too. Could say it was giving the Mau a chance to prove himself, albeit under Tama's guidance. That would have to do, he supposed. He couldn't stall Albite's progress with Heliodor solely because he wasn't sure what to do with his feelings, not when Heliodor's life was all but on the line.

"The s**t I do for that boy," he confessed to the bracelet. Drawing a breath, he reached forward and summoned both Mauvians to his desk.

"Got a project for you both," he explained as he laced his fingers together in front of his chin. "Know you've got one already, Tama, so I'm asking you to supervise Magnus on this one."

“Project?” Tama purred as he was summoned to the desk of the general-king.

What had he in store that needed not just one but two Mauvians?

“You know I just love projects.”

It was hard to keep the curiosity from his voice. He was generally curious. Faustite wasn’t one to just summon a Mauvian for no reason. In fact, if Tama had to guess, he had already exhausted his other options before involving him.

He also had trouble keeping the disappointment out of his voice when he realized he wasn’t so much involved, but in a supervisory role. Magnus was new, he supposed, but as far as he was concerned, any Mauvian could be counted on without one supervising the other. Well, Negaverse hierarchy, he supposed.

“And, ah… supervision… I love supervision, too.”

Magnus was surprised by the summons. He wasn't typically called upon for anything, not since his arrival. In fact, he'd been left to himself for the most part to get comfortable and settle into his place within, what he had surmised, was a large team. So, when he appeared in the office, the tip of his tail curled in delight as he slipped up along Tama's side.

"What sort of project?" He practically chirped as he glanced over at Tama who looked...was he a bit put out?

"Tama can certainly help me with it. We can make it a duel project." Cause, to be honest, Magnus wasn't sure how comfortable he felt about taking on a project without the direct interaction with someone else. Unless, of course, the project was to find something shiny. That he'd be quite happy to do himself. There was something about a good game of finding a nice little piece of treasure.

With no respect or acknowledgment that he could be intruding, the feline leapt up onto the desk. After all, staring up at the General King wasn't the most comfortable from the floor. It was then he caught sight of the bracelet and his eyes honed in on the device with an almost greedy look. "What's this?" He questioned, a paw reaching out to touch it before he thought better of it, and forced himself to sit his butt down on the desk top, tail lashing a bit behind him in his curiosity, ears pricked forward.

Seemed mentioning supervision took the wind out of Tama's sails; Faustite didn't miss how the Mauvian wilted a margin. He would've thought the cat to be all for supervising, as it meant he wouldn't have to do damn near anything and he'd still get some accolades out of the work. Maybe he had more integrity than the average Mau.

Not that Faustite particularly wanted to think about that. He was already fighting his wretched first impression of the manx without trying to reflect on Tama's good qualities.

"Look," he told Magnus, "I don't ******** around with tech. If it takes both of you to solve the problem, then you figure out the division of labor amongst yourselves." It wasn't that formal of an arrangement, at least to him.

He did, however, draw the bracelet away from the eager Mau with a fingernail before it fell on the floor or got broken due to feline negligence. "That," he explained, "is very old. Very breakable. It lets the wearer see a memory from someone they touch, through that person's eyes, as if experiencing it themselves. Don't know if it was damaged or if it has something to do with the Rift crystals in it, but it doesn't function the way it did for my ancestor. Need it to be closer to that.

"Know that Velvet could look for a memory with it. The way it is now, it's random. Just as likely to get someone taking a s**t as I am to see their memories of scheming against the Negaverse.

"The other person also re-experienced the memory as Velvet saw it. Want to avoid that, but if it shows up in the final product, it can't be helped." He gave a lopsided shrug as he glanced between the two cats.

"Try to be quick with it. Need it done for an ongoing mission."

“Yes. We can certainly work together. You’ll be lead on the project, of course.”

The Mauvian supposed he couldn’t have everything. At least, he got to still have his little paws in on this project. He could cede the star of the show to Magnus.

Tama had been wondering how he had been holding up. Magnus had been corrupted by Faustite upon his own urging. If anyone knew how rough that could be, it was him. But he had still asked Faustite to do it knowing full well everything that came with it.

Perhaps it was not only Magnus that changed that day, but a little bit of Tama, too.

“Memories? Messing around with those is a dangerous affair.”

Tama didn’t not like to interfere with memories. It had never gone well for him. But Faustite knew this. Was this some sort of test for Tama?

“Are you sure you want it to operate how Velvet used it? That is a lot of control to wield. I cannot guarantee you won’t see everything like you’re viewing it through the eyes of a knight.”

Magnus took the hint as the device was carefully pulled away from him. It was curious though, considering he and Tama were going to need to put their paws on it to fix the device. But whatever. He wasn't put out by the motion. Instead, he turned his attention to what was being requested mind racing at the possibilities that could come from tinkering with such a device.

Tama was quick to accept the compromise Magnus had put out there. Good! Now hopefully the other Mau would enjoy himself with the project. Seemed the more experience Mau's wheels were also turning as well.

"If we get it functioning like it was it might be difficult to separate the memory holder from experience what the viewer is seeing." He agreed with Tama. "It could be a fault in how the device was designed, or perhaps a purposely placed so memories couldn't be taken sneakily." He glanced from Tama to the device then Faustite.

"I agree with Tama. Memories can be tricky things. Especially since what people remember and what actually happened can be altered over time." He wondered if there was a way to avoid that from happening. Perhaps it was already calibrated to pull a true memory and not one altered from time? Oh now he was incredibly curious!

"We can get started right away since it's needed for a mission." Standing he walked to the edge of the desk and hopped down to join Tama on the ground. "I certainly have nothing else going on." He remarked, cause what else would he have going on being a fairly fresh recruit. "Are you free, Tama?"

Faustite disliked being questioned and his simmering glance at Tama conveyed as much. However, as much as he wanted to singe Tama's puffs for throwing his statements back at him in such an affronting manner, he had to respect that technology — even the magical kind — remained in the cats' domain.

"Did I ******** stutter?" He asked Tama with a bite to his voice. "We need the control. We can work around the cost."

It crossed his mind, briefly, that the augmentation with the Rift crystals and their continued use of the device might have warped it to the point that its original function could not be restored. He wanted to avoid that possibility, however, because he did not like its implications. Having to recreate the entire bracelet as it was originally intended to exist demanded such knowledge and accuracy from temperamental cats that Faustite expected the project to either flop immediately or kill anyone who used it that the Mauvians didn't like. And considering Albite's fear of them —

Faustite elected to keep pacing instead. Better to take his mind off of worst case scenarios. He kept his hands clasped behind him while he worried a hole in the floor, never really straying too far from the cats before he shifted direction again.

"You will find a way to tap the memory imprinted on the starseed, then." Or whatever produced the unadulterated version of events. "Tell me if you need something. I'll requisition it. And I want status updates by the week, if it takes you that long. Understood?"

“Nope. You didn’t. But I have seen you nearly tear your body apart with magic technology. I wouldn’t want your mind to go, too. That’s a much harder thing to repair.”

If Faustite was willing to pay the cost, who was he to not agree to the bargain? It’s not like he couldn’t do it — the Mauvian could definitely modify the device. It was those pesky ‘costs’ he was worried about.

“Certainly. Just know that there is a not return policy on all adjustments made to the device.” He purred before turning to his fellow Mau.

“Magnus, I can be started immediately. Let’s meet in my office in MauHQ. I need some supplies.”

Magnus flicked his tail as he turned his attention from the pacing General King to the white Mauvian who was, in all ways right now, his superior. Atleast in Magnus's eyes anyway. He was far too new to the Negaverse to think otherwise. There was just too much to learn.

"I am good to begin right away." He confirmed. What else did he have to do anyway, besides lounge around in the warm office with Faustite. And Magnus got the feeling that Faustite wouldn't let him enjoy the rest of the afternoon sprawled across his desk when there was work to be done. With that pacing, it was apparent speed was important.

"I'll meet you there then." He agreed. If nothing else, this project was going to allow him to get ot know Tama a bit better, and Magnus was very pleased about that. Plus, he was getting a rather shiny piece of tech to pay with. A win-win in his eyes. Rising to all for paws he turned to follow Tama out.
