Unforgiven had already seen several matches play out tonight, drawing ever so close to the main event which was one of the most widely anticipated in years. Backstage, in his lawfully ordered private dressing room, Hiro Shin-Mozas sit in a folding chair. He wore a rather plain looking orange t-shirt and jeans that were...well, they were quite wrinkled. The Ethnic Enigma's skin looked well worn as well -- he had a nasty bruise on his head and was sporting a fresh new scar near his ear, still sown shut. Hiro was looking up at the television as a promo had played for the match later tonight between Jarel Damone and Chrono Clepsydra. Hiro was long removed from a life of hate, despite what he'd been through lately. There was most certainly reason to hate the Fusion family, to hate the business, to hate himself...but he wasn't going to let those feelings consume him. He had come too far, changed too much to go back to a life that lacked that sort of emotional self-control. However, when he looked up at Chrono's graphic on the match card, he couldn't help but feel a pulsating emptiness around his neck. It was as if something was missing, as if he was feeling...deja vu. Naturally Hiro was unable to put his finger on what exactly it was he was feeling and why, and he wouldn't be given much time to ponder it as a stagehand knocked on his door, letting him know it was time. Hiro stood up gingerly from the chair and limped his way to the door, stepping out into the backstage area. His heart would quickly drop as he heard someone say his name...Blackjack. Hiro hadn't yet gotten to the arena yet, but he had been warned that something occurred with Blackjack tonight and it was televised live. The extra security that had been stationed backstage was enough to make Hiro believe he should be alright, but the fact that his lawyer wouldn't divulge what happened and encourage Hiro not to look into left him with a pit in his stomach that was a hundred times worse than seeing a photo of Chrono Clepsydra. The Ethnic Enigma would make his way down the backstage area, head on a swivel, until he hit gorilla.

On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha
You can listen to the engine moanin' out his one note song
You can think about the woman or the girl you knew the night before
But your thoughts will soon be wanderin' the way they always do
When you're ridin' sixteen hours and there's nothin' there to do
And you don't feel much like ridin', you just wish the trip was through

Here I am
On the road again
There I am
On the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page

Metallica's cover of "Turn the Page" began as it so often had these days -- the fans were happy to see Hiro Shin-Mozas once more, cheering him on as he tried his best to ignore his own limp when stepping into the spotlight. The former World Champion stared out into the sea of man, a daunting and yet comforting sight as he realized there were certainly more than a handful of fans disappointed to see him after he lost yet again. This was something the definitely weighed down on Hiro. He didn't want to keep losing matches, thinking otherwise was borderline stupid. Though, it didn't really matter what he wanted right now, as he got what he wanted in life already quite recently: entering the ring once more, continuing his career. Now, whether it led to dozens upon dozens of losses, the fact was he no longer had a leg to stand on when it came to making demands. He actually barely had a leg to stand on at all as his limp became a bit more clear as he shuffled down the ramp, high fiving the fans which stuck their hands out and trying to give them at least something of a good showing tonight.

Hiro made his way to the ring steps, climbing them slowly until he reached the apron. He leaned on the ropes, looking out into the crowd once more as they cheered. He scanned out of habit, looking at several people to make sure they were who they presented themselves as: wrestling fans, not murderous cons on the run from the law. However, a sign caught his eye, causing his hands to go cold and his legs to shake. YOU HAVEN'T EVEN BEGUN TO BLEED., big blocky letters in red sloppily painted across a white piece of construction paper. Fans in the front row grew restlessly concerned as they noticed the color leave Hiro's face, his eyes fixated deep towards the back of the building. Many would turn to look, others would follow suit, a rumble picking up as fans expected to see something that would continue the story of Hiro tonight...but they saw nothing. The sign that would mean nothing to anyone but Hiro was no where to be seen, as if it was never there to begin with. Hiro used the ropes to methodically turn his back to the crowd and gulp, trying to keep his composure as he had been forced to so often in recent times. The Ethnic Enigma entered the ring, taking hold of a microphone left in the corner for him to use in the segment. Metallica's cover faded away allowing Hiro to stand awkwardly in center ring, the arena full of fans waiting for his words...perhaps an explanation for whatever he was just staring at.

"Ahem...w-well, folks -- I want to thank you for the warm welcome. As for what just happened, chock it up to my head still feeling rather juiced after Summerslam. I was completely unable to get the victory against Avari, despite my best attempts. The kid is the future, and he proved it to me and put it on display for all of you. I've got nothing but respect for Avari coming out of that match, he backed up all he had to say and then some, and afterward -- he made sure I was alright. Those are the actions of a true legend in the making, and so Avari...I tip my cap to you, son. You're every bit the man your father hoped you'd become, and then some."

The fans broke out of their confused funk to cheer -- they always loved a little bit of respect and honor, and Hiro was for sure giving it up where it was due. "AVAR-I FUS-ION" was a chant that broke out seamlessly, the fans more than happy to celebrate the Man of the Hour once more.

"Avari's got a future as bright as the explosion of a nuclear warhead -- and speaking of that, for the longest time now, I've made it my mission to get an audience with his dad, Nuke Fusion. The Redeemer, as he's going be now, he's been a hard guy to get in touch with. However, after losing to Avari at Summerslam...I suppose I feel that, maybe, I'm not meant to share the ring with Nuke again. We're not meant to speak with one another about the past, we're not meant to ever wrestle one another again, perhaps we're just...not meant to exist, together. That's fine, I suppose -- water and oil, fire and ice, winning and losing...they don't really mix too well, if you ask me -- they stay separate for a reason -- it's a science. Speaking of looking at things almost mathematically, applying some logic...I have been doing some thinking of my own lately. Well, I've been trying to think anyway, though with the concussions and constant inability to stay focused on one thing before the pain comes rushing through my body, I'll say that thinking has certainly not been a strong suit as of late. That said, my thinking has led me to question my own abilities."

Uh oh. That was a scary thing to hear for the die-hard Hiro fans watching this segment playout. Hiro's body finally became still, his shaking legs planted sternly and the color returning to his features. He seemed to calm down as he began, the idea of getting these words of his chest being a quick shot of relief to his shot nerves and aching body. The crowd would once again begin to hush and allow Hiro to continue on as his mouth met microphone.

"Why, since I've come back to wrestling, have I lost every match I've competed in? I went out on top in 2016, I defeated Freakshow and Bad Boy at Wrestlemania and within a month's time my career was over -- but the run I was on leading up to that? It felt phenomenal. It felt like I was doing the best work of my career. So when I came back, I knew it wasn't going to be win after win after win -- I'm not vain, guys. I assumed it would be complicated, I assumed losses would definitely come against people like Drako and Avari. You can't beat everyone when you're out of the game for as long as I was...but the loses to Jamie and Brantley, they have eaten away at me. Both of those guys are world class wrestlers, but all I got out of working with them...was incredibly hurt. All that's happened since I decided to lace my boots has been near massive injury after near massive injury. I know I said I didn't deserve to be alive if I wasn't in a wrestling ring, but jeez, I didn't think getting back into the ring would so quickly accelerate the idea that I could just drop dead at any moment...or, unfortunately...meet a worse fate than that. I've heard the rumors. I know what's going on, from what Rosario has said to what my own lawyers filled me in on...I know that Blackjack is back, and he's on the loose. Many of you know why that fills me with very real fear, why the idea of coming across him is horrifying to me. It's enough to stop me in my tracks, make me see things throughout the arena, be on the lookout for anything out of place. It's what makes me even afraid to be the hero you people want me to be.

You know, later tonight, you're going to get a match you NEVER thought would happen. Chrono Clesydra and Jarel Damone will meet right where I'm standing and reignite the age-old debate: who wins in a fight between a god and a dragon? For me, to see those two come out here, after what they've been through and what they've accomplished in their careers...it's humbling. I haven't accomplished half of what those two have, not even a quarter, and my career is right now, lets face it, a shell of what it once was...but the two of them meeting tonight struck a cord with me. It left me thinking, 'why can't I just leave this and come back when I want, when I feel like there's a score to settle'. I've been at every show since Wrestlemania, one way or another -- not always wrestling but always sticking around like a junkie looking for the next hit. Even right now with a body failing me at every bump and a brain that will never get as much oxygen as it truly needs ever again...I can't help but wonder what it would be like if I was the one fighting Chrono tonight. If the God of Time met the man I was now, and did battle with me -- would he make it through the war I'd bring to him, or would I suffer such a fall from grace that I'd end up right back on my property in MacIntosh, in a wheelchair wishing for death."

The strikingly bleak words of the Ethnic Enigma drew jeers from the crowd that just didn't enjoy hearing him speak in such a way. He managed to pull them back though, implying the thought of him vs Chrono was perhaps something he was hoping for, but as Hiro lowered the microphone to his side and began to pace, his limp showing...it took the fans out of it a little bit. Perhaps, that wasn't something they really wanted to see after all. It wouldn't be what it could.

"Unfortunately, the way I see it...I couldn't hang in the ring with Chrono right now. There's probably not a soul I could fight competently right, definitely not tonight -- I'm not cleared to wrestle, Mick Foley made that pretty clear to me when I got to the arena. Though for the first time since I came back, I wasn't exactly hoping for a fight anyway. I keep preaching it, I keep talking about the idea of having the will to go on. It's what has kept me alive, I'm telling you, it's a driving force -- it's what pumps my blood, it's what produces the carbon dioxide I spit out every few seconds, it's what sends the little shocks across my body that let me get off the ******** mat, and FIGHT with EVERY LAST FIBRE OF MY BEING!"

Hiro's verbeage intensified, and there was no way the crowd couldn't hold back their own excitement. What was a depress spiel filled with self-doubt and anguish was turned around by old reliable: the sheer force of will the Ethnic Enigma was in a large supply of. Hiro seemed to be feeling his own words too, but his body language began to dictate a shift the came as quick as the one prior -- back to a soft demeanor that reeked of desperation and depression.

"Though...it's not enough, now. I don't think it is, anyway. The way I lost at Summerslam, being kicked from the top rope, bleeding out on the ground as my feet hit the floor, unable to respond to the doctors...I lost that match quite literally three ways to Sunday. You don't often bounce back from something like that, physically or metaphorically. So, I guess, I don't know what I'm going to do now. I know I'll be alright physically, the bruises will heal, my blood has already been replaced. This gnarly scar near my ear will give me another story to tell and the next paycheck is already cleared. I don't have to worry about working another match for a long while -- but mentally, the uncertainty of my own abilities weighs me down. My heart wants so bad to keep going, but my brain tells me to stop...and I've never been one to listen to the little voice inside my head, and maybe...it's finally time to start doing that? I just don't know anymore, but all I can tell now is I'm not fit to tussle with a Dragon, a Snake, my own personal Demon....or a God...and for that, I'm sorry."

Hiro would lower the microphone to his side once more, his expression becoming slightly despondent as if he realized he couldn't take back what he just said. It was now out there in the world that, after his impassioned speech at Wrestlemania he was now in severe doubt about his future and if it was worth continuing on. Perhaps the willpower he had was better used elsewhere, instead of being used on fighting a losing battle against his skill and dodging a man who just may be coming to take his life. The fans would boo at the fact that a man they respect so much was now pitying himself and implying that he would once again leave, perhaps never to be seen again.

With Hiro's heartfelt promo to the audience at hand, the lights began to flicker. From flickering to failure as, one by one, the lights in the arena began to go out. The noise of a loud floodlight going out played each time before, eventually, the arena was in darkness.

The audience around ringside put their phone lights on to create a sea of lights that looks mesmerising, almost.. just almost beautiful.

The noise in the arena began to build as the lights stayed out, anticipation as to what might be going on building up. But, as quick as the lights began to play up, the titantron came to life. A blank white screen took everyone's attentions as they wondered just what was going on.. before those words took center stage.

The crowd went in to a frenzy as they cheered on, the bold and clear back writing just contrasting beautifully with the only true light source in the entire arena.

There were a few more moments of build up before a trio of spotlights hit the ring. Standing a few feet away from Hiro.. "The Redeemer" Nuke Fusion.

Eyes locked with the Ethnic Enigma, Nuke had a straight face, no emotion showing. He didn't break the eye contact, nor did he seem to blink. The crowd had actually begun to cheer even more than before, especially so as Nuke reached behind his back and pulled out a custom microphone.

Instead of the WWFG logo it was white with 'NF' written in black bold.

But Nuke didn't say a word as he just kept that eye contact with Hiro, letting the anticipation build up. The crowd knew that Fusion would have something amazing to say, something that would make them angry or hostile, maybe joyous or jubilant, perhaps even excitement for what's yet to come.

Holding that white microphone in his left hand, Nuke took one step towards Hiro Shin-Mozas.. he reached out with his right hand, and offered a handshake.

Hiro's heart dropped as the lights began to turn off, his body struggling to enter fight or flight mode. He wasn't expecting to be interrupted here, but it was ESPECIALLY unnerving that it began with total darkness. The fans tried to light up the arena with their lights, but it merely built up the anxiety in the Ethnic Enigma even more. His eyes darted about the building, backing up to the ropes and spooking himself with them. Fans in the front row could see Hiro leap up slightly and back into center ring once more -- and his fears were not quelled by the sudden blinding light of the titantron. He put his hands up to shield his squinting eyes, as if he'd just been hit with a flashbang and was desperate to avoid an oncoming enemy. Then, to his own great shock, the name Nuke Fusion appeared on the screen and the fans were sent into that oh-so-desirable frenzy. Hiro took another few steps back as he struggled slightly to maintain his balance from the gauntlet of different emotions he just went through in the span of seconds. The last thing he ever expected tonight was to finally get what he'd been searching for the last seven years: a moment in time with the Redeemer.

Then, as if he formed out of thin air, Nuke Fusion stood before Hiro engulfed in god's rays -- his white gear shining bright. The Ethnic Enigma was frustrated with himself if only for a moment, had this been a serious attack from someone he would have never realized it until it was too late. He was lucky tonight though, as it became clear quickly that Nuke was not here to fight. The two were locked in a stare that would not be broken, Nuke remaining silent as the fans wildly cheered, a "HOLY s**t!" chant breaking out. It seemed that perhaps the fans were just as invested in Hiro's desire to see Nuke as he was. Hiro found himself blown away further as Nuke's hand was raised slowly, offering him the ultimate gesture of respect: a handshake. Hiro tried his best to fight back a few tears as he could feel a true level of catharsis shooting through his veins -- he broke the stare and looked down at Nuke's hand, until finally he gripped it and shook a weight that had been on his mind for an incredibly long time finally raised. The fans were absolutely eating this up, they couldn't believe it. The camera cut to several for the viewers at home, so many cheering, a woman in the front row crying. This was but one in a series of many moments tonight that would make Unforgiven an unforgettable show. Hiro would bring the microphone to his mouth as he held the shake tight, stammering out just one question for the Redeemer, the Nuclear God, the man who gave him his first break.

"W-...Why?"
PostPosted: Mon Aug 28, 2023 11:11 am

Nuke looked down at the handshake that was accepted, the first time he had broken eye contact with his former friend and enemy. He kept his left hand, still holding the microphone loosely, down at his side. Looking back up at the eyes of Hiro he kept that firm grip.. and stepped forward, embracing the Ethnic Enigma, his left arm coming around Hiro and bringing him in.

The crowd went in to a frenzy of cheers as this happened, an eclectic mix of emotions, a frenzied storm of intensity and sensation. Away from the cameras, the microphones around the ring, Nuke turned his head and spoke softly in to the ear of his fellow veteran.

"I'm sorry it's been so long, friend. You've been searching for answers, and tonight you can have as many as you need. Forget about the audience, block out everything and everyone here.. this is a moment between two friends."

With that he took a moment before stepping back, still clutching the hand of Hiro, his eye contact maintained again. For the first time.. he smiled at The Ethnic Enigma.

Hiro couldn't help but well up tears finally as Nuke pulled him into an embrace, the Redeemer living up to his name tonight. It was when Nuke whispered to him that tonight would indeed be the night they would speak, Hiro couldn't help but stick his face down into his friend's shoulder for a second to conceal his eyes. Nuke then stepped back, and shot Hiro a genuine smile that allowed the Ethnic Enigma to fully decompress and feel as though, for the first time since he returned, he was finally in the presence of a real friend. Hiro would again shake Nuke's hand while mouthing "Thank You", only to remove himself from the handshake and instead grab Nuke's wrist, lifting his arm up for an ovation from the fans. It looked like before Hiro would deep dive into their moment, he wanted those in the building to have one more of their own as they cheered wildly, jubilation abound with a "NU-KE FUS-ION!" chant easily beginning and carrying around the building. Finally, as the crowd died down, Hiro lowered Nuke's hand and again thanked him. Though, it was now time for Hiro to get exactly what he wanted for the last few months.

"Wow uh...you really got me, man. I don't know if you've been watching anything that's gone on with me since we both came back at Wrestlemania, but things have been tough. Now you know me, I've never been one to give up. Whether it was when I was the Remnant Champion in WWE:E or the Legacy Champion here in the WWF:G, I never once felt the mental strain of what came with being a champion and staking my claims. I couldn't allow myself to be stopped, to let the moment ever get too big for me...because of those like you who took a chance on believing I would be the kind guy you're standing in the ring with right now. I hope I did you proud in at least one or two ways, Nuke. Now, as for why I was really hoping to talk to you again, one way or another, was because I didn't want you clocking me in the head with a pipe and awarding Freakshow the World Championship to be the last image either you, I, or these fans had of the Ethnic Enigma and the Redeemer in the ring together. I have too much respect for you, and always considered you to be too good of a friend to ever let that stand."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 28, 2023 11:39 am

Nuke stood in position and listened to each and every word that left Hiro's lips. He felt pure emotion from the man standing in front of him, and with that emotion came a lot of hurt that he recognised. Nuke took a few seconds after Hiro had finished speaking before continuing, letting the emotion just resonate for those moments.

"Seven years, huh?"

For one of the first times Nuke broke eye contact and looked down at the canvas, shaking his head at his own thoughts, pondering his words before they let his lips. They needed to be the right words, the ones to set start making things right. Finally, he looked back up at Hiro.

"Seven years, and a lot has changed in those times. We went our separate ways, and I didn't wish to ever wish to leave you like that. Hiro, I've had those seven years to sit and wonder if I would have done anything differently.

I mean, right now, of course I would have. But back then.. well, I was a different person. I was driven on greed, power, lust, domination.. I just had to be the only man standing on top of that mountain.

What I would do now is to climb that mountain, and bring my friends with me, bring my family with me. Hiro.. you're family. Although I may not have shown it over the years, you always have been.

I want to rectify and redeem my own mistakes from seven years ago, and I want to do it the right way. Tell me, you can ask or do anything you'd like, and you'll have an open and honest response from me.

I'll answer a question, I'll listen to your thoughts.. hell, I'll even take a pipe to the head if it'll make things better between us.

Name it.. it's yours.
"

Hiro once again was flooded with emotion as Nuke made the proclamation that in his eyes -- Hiro was family. It was one thing to have an apologetic Nuke before him, as Hiro had already forgiven Nuke in his heart long ago -- but for this legend, this god, this brother to offer up any one thing, it was not what the Ethnic Enigma had expect with retirement on his mind at the start of the program. The fans cheered all this love and positivity, in a business surrounded by negative performances, bad actors, and constant betrayal it was a breath of fresh air to see something so genuine playout as close friends reconnecting. Hiro rubbed the back of his head as he thought things through, ruminating on Nuke's offer.

"Well, I'll tell you what -- you've got a thick skull buddy, I don't think the pipe would do much to you! Heh, I'm just kidding. Let me tell you this before I let you know what I would want: your boy is something else, man. I remember, I really do remember, being backstage at WWE:E and seeing you groom Avari to be a big time executive. I could never forget how hard you'd train him before shows, and that was on my mind at Summerslam. Because Avari was so damn good at what he did, he pushed me so far past my limits, that it really did remind me of being in there with you. So I've gotta tell you, when it comes to your son, you did a damn fine job brother."

As if there wasn't enough campy sweetness here, the fans ate up a little more with a spoon. They chanted heavily for Avari and Hiro's praising of Nuke's training and parenting. The Ethnic Enigma encouraged them to keep going, and they sure did.

"Now, now...Nuke, we are good. I forgave all this stuff so long ago, and in some ways you knocking me upside the head helped me become a better man. When I had to go out there and defeat Freakshow, I found things inside me I never knew I had the power of. The will to fight on, the will to forgive, the ability to forget about hate and embrace acceptance and forgiveness. It made me a better man. It also made me a stronger man. You know, when I got here tonight...I'll admit it, back in my locker room, I had my boots leaning up against the door. I knew for sure I'd be coming out here to say something, but just wasn't sure what -- but I knew deep down there was a chance I'd take those boots with me, lay them right here in center ring, and never show my face in WWF:G again. Well, after getting to talk with you right here, every loose end I had has been tied. There's really no reason for me to go on anymore. I don't want to just sit around, waiting for Blackjack to come find me, or for my next loss to rear it's ugly head. So, I guess...I'll just leave the building tonight, and prepare to be at No Mercy to see the WWF:G faithful one last time."

The fans began to boo as it appeared as though their ultimate fear had been realized. Hiro had reverted back to the demeanor he had before Nuke had arrived, this depressed emoting and sad voice that one day came for all wrestlers. Hiro looked down from Nuke, staring at the ground while the fans pleaded with their worried screams and chants. Hiro would bring the microphone to his mouth again as he raised his biting his lip as if to keep control over his facial expressions.

"I'll show up to No Mercy, and I'll come out to this ring with my boots, and they'll be placed right down in the middle of the ring...but I'll be wearing them, and I hope it'll be standing across the ring from you."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 28, 2023 12:12 pm

If the crowd's mix of emotions were clear to hear and see.. for once, so was Nuke's. The comment about the boots made Nuke's eyebrows rise in a little shock, right before the last sentence, as a genuine smile hit Fusion's cheeks.

He waited a few moments as the crowd went in to a wild cheer, all of them clearly excited for the idea of what could be. All it needed was acceptance, as Nuke looked out across the sea of people who were waiting in anticipation.

"Hiro.. a match, you say? A match between The Ethnic Enigma and The Redeemer?"

The crowd cheered loudly again, with a solid chant of 'Yes! Yes! Yes!' going out amongst them, almost a palpable wave of emotion.

"At No Mercy.. we're going to steal the show. Forget whatever the headline match is, because we're going to be the real main event."

Nuke offered his arm in acceptance, his smile wider than ever on his face.

That sure sounded like a confirmation to the crowd, as Hiro Shin-Mozas vs Nuke Fusion for the first time in nearly a decade was confirmed to take place at No Mercy! Hiro's smile was just as on display as Nuke's, the two men finally set to meet in the ring. Hiro didn't exactly ever want to fight Nuke again, but in this moment, he recognized that it was potentially the last time they'd ever have the chance -- and he had a few new tricks to show the Nuclear God. Hiro would toss the microphone away and once again thank Nuke, walking to him and taking his hand to lift it up for the crowd to shower both of them in cheers. It was a tough go about for Hiro, and for Nuke as well, since they had returned. However, they had each trended in different directions, one up and the other down -- but with this match they will have, it will be as if they were once again on even ground. A dream for so many, but perhaps for no one more than Hiro Shin-Mozas and Nuke Fusion. The crowd continued cheer on as the two reunited friends stood there, soaking in what could be a never-to-be-replicated moment.

Nuke smiled as Hiro lifted his arm up, the two men turning in the ring to face each side of the sold-out crowd. Cameras flashed, cheers broke out.. and the lights shut off again.

The titantron was the only thing lit up again, showing that familiar message.

Fans turned their phone camera lights on again to create another sea of stars.. as the lights turned back on again to full capacity.. and Hiro was left standing in the ring on his own.

The titantron faded away, replaced by two words.

No Mercy.
