As it was, a few of the littles were already camped out at tables with a variety of art supplies – crayons, watercolor paints, brushes and paper – happily drawing and chattering away. Eddie had some older kids too that regularly showed up from the middle-school side of things, but most of them felt Art Club was for babies, at least the boys did, but some of the girls too. Which was okay, middle school was a hard time for a lot of kids, what with all the changes that came with growing up. She didn't expect many of them had the mental or social bandwidth for something like this. For the few that did, though, she gave them all the attention and consideration that she gave to her fourth-graders daily. She was more than happy to facilitate this for the kids.
After getting another child situated with drawing supplies, Eddie sat down in a chair near the door and took a small notebook out of her satchel. She logged every kid that was here already and wrote the names of the other Art Club regulars, then flipped a few pages to her own project: writing down recipes for seasonings grown in her own little garden. It was a not unpleasant way to pass the late afternoon while waiting for other kids to show up.
