It was a little too quiet, Kiringul thought as he made his way through the park he liked to frequent whenever he came out on these nightly…whatever this was. What was he even doing? Patrols? That was probably the closest thing to what it was.
Did he feel equipped to patrol? Did he know what he was patrolling for? Not really, no. He had an inkling that it was meaningful work in the grand scheme, though, so he was willing to give it a shot. He was sure the work that needed doing would eventually come to him, or he would eventually go to it. It was a matter of numbers, at the end of the day.
The page actually ran into “the work” as he rounded a corner, and his face contorted into a look of disgust when he slammed right into something cold and wet and…growling? He took a couple of steps back and looked down first.
His front was covered in some nasty black goop.
Then he looked up and found himself face to face with what looked like a 3D ink stain. In the shape of a lion. And it seemed properly pissed off.
“Well, s**t.”

Eupheme knew she would be in so much trouble if her parents found out. But it wasn’t as though she was already being given bad influence by Surtur and Ymir when they brought her out to test her magic! And Lucasta usually showed up as well to keep an eye on things!
She was hoping they would go out that night since her mom was out of town. It was just her mumsy watching her and her siblings, and the night nurse would be too busy with the babies to even notice that she managed to sneak out. Especially since she was basically shown how to get out on her own.
The bad thing about sneaking out was that her parents had a stupidly large lawn to get past and out of range of Lucasta being able to sense her. But jumping off some of the benches was completely safe! She just wanted to see how high she could jump.
However, she already ran into a problem before even reaching the park she wanted to run around in.
She felt the youma before she saw it, but she was grateful that she could feel the aura of a knight nearby as well.
“Oh that doesn’t look good,” she grimaced, because the weird ink stain lion was already growling and looked ready to attack. Oops, and she was much smaller than the knight.
“Hey, over here!” she shouted at the lion. Why she tried getting its attention, she didn’t know. But once it turned to lunge at her instead, she quickly jumped up and out of the way. “Woah! Not nice!” She hadn’t expected it to be nice.

Kiringul thought he imagined the voice of a little girl, though he quickly realized that that made absolutely no sense at all. Then again, neither did a 3D ink stain lion, nor giant cicadas, nor actually having magical powers and being able to teleport to some magical place out there in the vastness of the universe. Here he was, though–perfectly real, perfectly magical. So he whipped his head around when the lion turned and lunged.
Maybe it had something to do with being a father himself, but when he saw the little girl getting attacked he felt a protective instinct surge from within and he didn’t have to think about what he ought to do next.
The page charged and rammed right into the lion, sending it hurtling into a nearby park bench.
His baby pink gaze fell on the little girl again, however briefly. The lion let out a great roar mere seconds after, and lunged at them again, so he didn't exactly have time to think beyond, 'She's barely my daughter's age!'
It swiped its claws at him first, which he did his best to dodge, then her.

Oh. Oh. This youma was a lot bigger and more ferocious than the one she and her brother had fought a while back. And even then -- oh yeah, she didn’t even dust it. That was her mom who had to come in and save them.
Yeah, well, she couldn’t just ignore a youma when it was going to attack someone!
However, she did squeak out a pitiful yelp of alarm when the lion thing didn’t seem to be letting up. Hmm. Maybe she should have thought about this a bit better.
Thankfully, the very nice knight was there to help her!
“Thank you!” she chirped breathlessly, and then remembered oh right she had magic. “Try hitting it again! It should go flying! Float!” she called out her magic.
Hopefully the next time the youma was hit, it would be knocked so far away that it would turn into dust when it fell. Or they could probably run. Maybe. Quote: Sailor Scout Attack: Float When Eupheme casts her magic on herself or someone else within an eight foot radius, for fifteen seconds they will experience moderately reduced weight and speed, and the effects of gravity are less, as though floating in water. Can be used up to three times. Unless an external force is propelling them, they are unable to jump higher than they normally would, and have to consider where they will land once the magic wears off. Those affected by the magic may experience a mild sense of euphoria as they “walk on air”, at the player’s discretion.

”Flying?”
Thankfully by the time her attack hit the lion he figured it out: magic. Of course! So he rammed the lion again, this time trying to sort of scoop it up so it would actually go up instead of forward. He managed to get it to go slightly up but it still went forward, heading into the park ahead of them.
“Neat trick,” he said, breathing heavily but grinning widely at the little girl. Exercise was the bane of his existence, so even just that much movement was enough to get him winded. Kiringul offered her a high five, though. He could manage at least that much.
“I’m Kiringul, a Cosmos page. What’s your name?”

Eupheme enthusiastically jumped up to give Kiringul a high five, grinning from ear to ear that her magic worked! Kinda. She wasn’t sure if the youma would be back to attack them. She hoped it got too stunned from being bounced off into the distance that they wouldn’t have to worry about it.
“Sailor Chibi Eupheme, Senshi of weightlessness! I prefer she her --” Oh, was that too much? She didn’t know this page, so just to be on the safe side.
“My mumsy is Cosmos too! That’s so cool! Oh, but please don’t tell her I’m out here. I’ll probably get in a lot of trouble. But it’s good that we ran into each other, yeah? I like your outfit. They’re pretty colors!”

Kiringul gave a small nod of his head and committed the name to memory. She was the first Chibi that he’d met so it wouldn’t be hard to remember, and while her magic was pretty cool she was just…so young. Which was ultimately why the grin faded ever so slightly. This was dangerous stuff, given what they just encountered. How could a little girl be involved at this age?
Of course, it would actually have been worse for him had she not shown up so he had somewhat mixed feelings right that moment.
“Oh, you’ve got family that does this, too?” The grin faded just a little bit more. If it was a family thing, that meant his daughter could also…
Yet another thing to ask Mel. He ought to be making a list.
“Hey, thanks! Your outfit’s pretty, too. I’m sure my daughter would love to wear something just like it if she got a chance.” He fought the urge to give her a pat on the head, in case she wasn’t comfortable with a complete stranger doing something like that.
“Ah, and I’m not a tattletale, so no need to worry there. I wanna make sure you get home safe, though. Y'know, in case the lion-thing manages to float after you. Would you be okay with me taking you home?”

“I-- uhhhhh…”
Eupheme had opened her mouth to say yes, she had a lot of family involved in this magical war thing, but suddenly remembered how insistent her mom was about her not telling anyone.
Oh, but she’d been so excited about meeting another Cosmos knight.
Hmm… maybe that was okay. There were plenty of Cosmos knights with grandchildren, right?
But Kiringul was funny, and she giggled with delight when he talked about the lion-thing. She really hoped it was gone and wouldn’t come after them.
“I should be okay, but thank you! I’m not supposed to show people where I live.” Maybe when she was older it would be different, but for now… she didn’t want to be grounded for life.
“It was nice meeting you! And stay safe!” she waved at him because they would both be okay, right? And she should probably get to bed before she was caught being out.

She seemed a bit hesitant to answer.
Kiringul wondered for a moment before deciding that it all probably boiled down to stranger danger. Made sense. She seemed to have a good head on her shoulders–wandering around on her own he just chalked up to the curiosity that all children had–and he gave a nod when she said her farewell.
“Ditto,” he said, “and ditto, kid. Take care!”
He waved as he watched her go; at least this way he could help if the lion-thing did float back this way. There was no sign of it coming back, but only once she was out of sight did the page turn to leave. On his way home he couldn’t help but quietly pray to whatever or whoever was out there.
Please, for the love of all things good. Not his daughter.
