Nature’s Boon (10) : Flowers are blooming at an incredible place across the city and sometimes barren patches of grass can be overrun with flowers overnight. There have been heavy showers and a high pollen count but there doesn’t appear to be any other explanation. It is not uncommon to find trees with nearly double the leaves they usually have, with vines twisting up houses, flowers covering the front yard, or local fruits to have doubled in size. This isn't the first time Destiny City has seen such oddities, and there doesn’t seem to be any negative effects to this; scientists are questioning climate change. Or is it radiation??
It wasn't unusual for Willie to be at a farmers market, supporting some of the smaller farms, but today was a bit different. The summer season at the moment was a bit different. Willie had buckets of bouquets of flowers. His family generally supplied a few fruits and many vegetables to a few markets in the city, but his mother’s garden was so much in overbloom that as fast as they cut the flowers more seemed to appear. They were cutting the flowers daily and there were overrun, so Willie was at the farmers market to try to sell a few of the bouquets his mother had put together.
He helped his mother set up her tent and display before interacting with passers by and handing out single lilies to those who stopped and chatted with him and his mother.
Ashley usually sends her dad when it comes to these farmers market things, but he was currently away at the moment so she was on her own. It wasn't so bad, she managed to get some jars of flavored honey and jam along with homemade bread and organic fruits and veggies. Right now, she was thinking of getting her siblings mom something as well as a gift to celebrate Ever's graduation from highschool. He would get to enjoy the freedoms of college: partying, studying, eating top Ramen, and romancing the ladies.
Well, she wasn't so sure about that last bit or even the partying, but either way she was proud of him. In her search, she noticed a rather pretty flower booth, noting that the flowers there would make an excellent gift for her siblings mom. Making her way over, she spotted a rather handsome looking man who admittedly was kinda along the lines of huge. "Excuse me,how much would a bouquet be with a vase?"
Willie looked over to see a young woman with long pink curls asking how much a bouquet cost. He smiled, “Good afternoon. The bouquets are 15 for the medium bouquet or 20 for the large one. Unfortunately we dont have any vases, but there is this booth with lovely blown glasses vases not far.”
He made sure to point out the medium and large bouquets and then went to the point of the booth, but he realized he couldn’t see it. “The booth isn't far, but you can't see it from here. Would you like me to show you?”
Ashley beamed at the young man, nodding, "I'll take one large bouquet." She pulled out a 20 from her purse, handing it over, "Sure if you don't mind~" the flowers that they were selling looked so full of life, almost like they were on steroids. "What do you use for your fertilizer? These flowers are so big, my mom is going to love them!"
Willie smiled and moved to grab one of the large bouquets, handing it to his mother who wrapped extra paper around it and tied it with a bow. “Thank mom, I’ll be right back. I'm just going to show this young woman where the blown glass booth is.”
Laura waved her son off, “Take a break Willie dear. I can handle the booth just fine on my own. I'm a farmer's wife and mother of 7, I can handle anything. Go make some new friends and bring me back a sandwich.”
Willie shook his head at his mother and turned away, taking the bouquet back to Ashley. “Shall we,” he said handing it to her, “apparently my mom has shooed me away.”
Ashley smiled and took the bouquet, giving him a flirty wink, "After you~" it seems like she would have a buddy to hang with for a little bit. "So, what do you grow on your farm?"
Wille nodded and started to lead the way, giving the flirty look a small quirk of his eyebrow, but otherwise not responding. “Oh, not much, we supply a couple grocery chains in the city with different vegetables depending on the season. It's summer so watermelon is one of the things, but otherwise, green bean, corn, potatoes, tomatoes … the usual. We have chickens, pigs and cows as well.”
He guided the young woman to the stand greeting the vendor, with a smile. “Hailey, I brought you a customer.”
He grinned, “this is Hailey, she and her brother have a shop that sells custom pieces downtown. Hailey this is … oh sorry, I didn't even introduce myself. I’m Willie, what's your name?”
Ash did notice that her wink went ignored…Sorta, which almost made her want to snort. Perhaps a farmer boy was taken? That's a definite possibility. Ain't no way someone hasn’t snatched him up already. “So you have the whole setup then? That’s nice, and also means self sustainability.” Which was extremely good given the state of the economy nowadays. She gave Hailey a smile, “Ashley, nice to meet you both~” She was already looking at the vases, thinking about which design she would like to take home to her mom. Eventually, a glass vase with a pink and purple swirl caught her attention. “I’ll take this one.”
Willie didn't need anything from the booth so he ended up chatting with Hailey, who teased him and laughed when his stomach growled loudly. He chuckled to himself even though it was slightly embarrassing. He needed to get food and remember to grab his mother a sandwich. Ashley picked her vase and Hailey wrapped it up with a squeal stating it was her favorite one she made and thanked Willie for bringing Ashley over before thanking Ashley for her purchase.
“Need help carrying anything to your car,” Willie asked Ashley though he was interrupted by his stomach growling loudly again.
Ash couldn't help but think that Hailey’s squeal was adorable, looking at Willie with an amused look on her face. “You're so welcome! It was nice meeting you Hailey~” When Willie asked if she needed help taking anything to her car, she almost said no but decided against it. “ Sure~ This bag of honey that I'm carrying is a bit much so I appreciate the offer~” Handing him the bag, she made her way towards the direction of her car, “I’ll try to be quick so you can get yourself some food.” She was amazed that he wasn’t hangry or anything, she most certainly would be at this point. But maybe that could just be chalked up to him working on a farm? More endurance maybe? Ash held up her key fob and deactivated the alarm on her car, popping the trunk. “Here we are~ Thank you so much for your help and hospitality Willie.” She wanted to find something to give him as thanks without being awkward but couldn't think of anything. Usually she would give her number but……That didn't seem right with farm boy over there.
Willie happily took the flowers and the vase from Ashley and followed her to her car and loaded the things for her. “Thanks,” he chuckled, “my parents raised a gentleman I suppose.”
He closed the trunk for her, “it was very nice to meet you Ashley. Hope to see you again.”
He turned and headed off with a wave making his way toward one of the booths that had food. He knew exactly which ones he would stop by before heading back to his mother.
