Radioactive Mysteries (13) : Destiny City has been booming, but with more people you need more power. Recently, an old power plant has been renovated and updated and just opened for business–but now people have been claiming dizziness or fatigue when in the area. Not to mention the animals. So far one shady, blurry video has been posted online of a strange bear-shaped humanoid ‘monster’ in the area. It’s difficult to tell if it’s a hoax or not, but whether or not you believe it, it might be a good idea to keep your eye out if you’re in the area. Especially because if you pass through, you feel like something’s watching you. It doesn’t have an aura so it can’t be a youma, but if you poke around too late at night you might find a strange creature that's built like a bear, covered in fur, but which has a strangely human presence. Something about it is just off--or, maybe it’s just your imagination. Maybe it’s just someone in a costume having a bit of fun at your expense. Still, its claws are sharp and it’s fast. When it runs through the forests, the trees seem to crack upon impact, and if you explore during the daytime you might find strange scratches and odd markings in the grass. The longer you’re in the area, the dizzier you get.
Note: If you choose to encounter the strange creature, your character will recognize that it is not a youma. The creature seems smart enough to understand human words but does not respond and does not seem to listen. It will always disappear before it can be caught or gravely injured. This RP can be used as a battle requirement for a character, separate from your ‘one youma battle’ per stage if there are two powered characters involved; you cannot write a solo and count this as a battle, and your character must be powered and interacting with another player’s powered character for it to count. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

"I prefer using these sites to hear news of strange phenomena. Dwight, my assistant, often keeps tabs on them for me. He likes information, it helps him feel powerful." Casually outing he friend's personal Issues to, Hestia sent a list of alternative news sites to Ersa's phone. The woods around them seemed fairly empty. A little too empty really. Which hopefully meant something terrible and very cool was waiting for them on this patrol.

"The nearby powerplant means it might not be a youma," she added sagely. "It may, in fact, be a mutant." There was a sparkle in her eye that said this was something she'd been hoping to see for a long, long...very long time.

Ersa nodded, struggling to make sense of just what Hestia was saying, but, she nodded anyway. It was more important to pretend like you knew what was going on…and then maybe soon enough she would understand just what was going on.

“A mutant?” The word broke all of Ersa’s carefully controlled concentration and she looked at Hestia with a confused expression. “...What does that mean? I’m afraid I’m not…familiar with the term…”

She knew what a youma was at least, but the fact that whatever this thing was wasn’t a youma…or might not be a youma…honestly…she didn’t understand one bit.

“If it is not a youma, what are we supposed to do with it? Are there monsters on the Earth that aren’t just…Chaos mistakes?”

"Mutants are usually transformed or bred in radioactive conditions. Sometimes it's not radioactive," Hestia admitted, "but the very cool ones are!"

Surveying the forest, she went on, "Chaos hasn't really been a known issue on Earth until more recent decades. And it's still not known to the general populace. Humans are very good at creating abominations without outside magical help." She sounded a little...proud of that where maybe she shouldn't be.

"So this could be a monster made by human science!"

Pausing she closed her eyes, taking stock of how she felt, "Reports claimed dizziness and fatigue n this area. How are you feeling, Ersa?"

Radioactive? What did that mean? Ersa nodded slowly and frowned slightly. “I…am feeling fine…I am…feeling confused, honestly. I do not know what radioactive means? I do not know…what you are talking about and…I just wish that I could understand a little more.”

She felt…quite lost, honestly. But the idea that monsters could be made by human science…that was…that was uncomfortable.

“...Would humans do any of that? You think that…I mean I am not dizzy or tired, I don’t understand how a human could make a monster…”

"Hmmm, it's mostly super powerful, super dangerous energy...stuff," Hestia announced confidently. She suddenly missed Miss Algol even more than she always missed Miss Algol, who could explain science things...if not with ease, then at least with ominous authority and impressively large words.

"Energy is always a big motivator for all sorts of dangerous methods," she went on. "People kill people all the time over it, so a monster or two as byproduct wouldn't really stop anyone." After a pause, Hestia added, "And that's not limited to Earth or humans either. I think we should watch some movies after this, it will undoubtedly be most educational."

Before she could start listing out potential watches, though, a large figure burst through the brush. It truly wasn't a youma, but it was also definitely not a bear.

"Ah hah!" Even if it wasn't a bear, Hestia very much wanted to wrestle it.

So…humans enjoyed killing one another for energy too? It wasn’t just something that the Negaverse did on this planet? That…was honestly worrisome, but she wasn’t sure how to express her horror without sounding like she was criticizing this planet but…

Honestly? She kind of was. At least a little bit.

Thankfully before Ersa had to figure out how to start conversation, the monster or mutant or…whatever Hestia wanted to call it appeared and Ersa froze.

For a moment she wasn’t quite sure what to do, but then the only thing that seemed at all feasible came to her mind and she squeaked out. “P-purity!”

At least…it would make sure that the…the whatever the creature was wouldn’t attack her…and Hestia was strong enough that she didn’t need to worry about herself…right?

Purity!
Ersa says her attack, and begins to glow faintly, catching the eye. Those who see her, up to three people in a ten foot radius, who she wishes to target, find her to be utterly innocent looking, something pure that isn't worth the trouble. The attack does no damage and only serves to distract those who see her. The glow lasts for thirty seconds.

Hearing Ersa cast her magic, Hestia surged toward the large, lumbering figure without further hesitation. The thing was, perhaps, not expecting a senshi to try grappling with it. Weaving past the claws swiping at her head, Hestia wrapped her arms around the thick furry torso and threw the whole bear over her shoulder.

Well, more like sent it staggering into a tree, but it'd be really nice if Ersa later described it as having thrown the bear mutant over her shoulder.

The bear was only staggered for a moment before getting back up into a fighting position just in time to block Hestia's flying kick. For a moment, the bear-thing looked at Ersa, then shook its head and tried to fit Hestia's whole head into its mouth.

If Ersa had better magic, then she wouldn’t be so useless...but as she was now, when the bear was trying to eat one of her best friends heads, she promptly burst into tears and took hold of Hestia’s hand, pulling her away from the bear and breaking into the fastest run that she possibly could, willing her magic to extend to her friend too…that way the bear would get bored and go away…they could get away and nobody would end up dead.

There was no bad energy coming from this creature, which meant that it really wasn’t a youma, and that just…didn’t sit well with her…if it wasn’t a youma…then what was it? Had humans really made this monster themselves? Why would they want to do something like that? It made absolutely no sense and…and just…

“I hate this, Hestia!”

The words burst out of Ersa when they were far enough away that she couldn’t hear the creatures lumbering steps any longer and she drew her hands away from her friend. “I don’t want to know about what humans have done…I don’t understand and I don’t want to hear anymore…please don’t go back and get eaten, it isn’t worth it! I am going…”

She stopped herself from saying home...for that was still impossible but. “I am going back to where I am staying now…I suggest that you do the same…because it is safer!”

Startled by the sudden pull, of Ersa's firm and direct action, even if it was just to run, Hestia felt a small burst of appreciation at her friend's growth as a warrior and...ah. Concern flashed over her features for a moment, and then she gave the girl a small, soft smile.

"Alright, I'll do that," she assured, reaching up to place a hand on the other senshi's shoulder. "And thank you, Ersa, for saving me."

“I would never let my friend die in front of me if I can do something to prevent it…” Ersa swallowed and after a moment, flung her arms around Hestia and squeezed her tightly before drawing away and breaking into another run, vanishing into the night.

She made a mental note never to involve herself in anything involving anything radioactive or mutant again…and that would just have to be a lesson learned.
