Quote: The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it’s incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it. Charlie loved the Star Festival. Not only because she could collect pretty charms, like the Amber one she’d picked up on her way home, but because it always gave her great inspiration for her artwork.
“It’s so beautiful, how could anyone not love the sky like this?”
She knew she was talking to herself as she raised her hands into the sky as though trying to reach for the stars themselves. It was late enough to be dark outside, but not so late that everyone else had gone home from the park. She was always worried that she would miss the meteor shower because of clouds or the city lights, but the park -- even though it was still well lit -- seemed like it was dark enough, but not impossibly so.
And yet, she still managed to run into someone because she was too busy staring up at the sky.
“Oh--! Oh no, I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” she gasped in surprise (it shouldn’t have been a surprise since she wasn’t even looking where she was going), and quickly looked over the young woman she’d run into to make sure they were okay.

“Huh!” Cecelia exclaimed as she took a step back to steady herself. “I’m fine, are you? I’m sorry too, I was lost in my thoughts and completely zoned out.” She had not actually meant to come here originally. Though she enjoyed watching the meteor shower every year, this year she felt more loneliness than anticipation. The friends she would usually go with had moved away or were too tired to come out this time. She had decided to stay home after her regular nightly walk, but a nagging feeling brought her all the way out. “I’m Cecelia btw. It’s nice to meet you. I take it you’re here to watch the meteor shower?” She glances up at the sky, “It’s a nice night for it.” She had not properly looked at the sky yet tonight, but when she did, the stars look so lovely. She forgot any troubles she had for a moment.

“I’m Charlie,” she chirped enthusiastically in return when Cecelia introduced herself, and once she was satisfied that Cecelia was uninjured, she lifted her hands to the sky to twirl around somewhat haphazardly again.
There was just something about the sky being so alive that excited her.
“Oh yes, it’s lovely, isn’t it? And so much better than all the strange things that happen around here. Have you seen the crazy big bugs?? They’re really gross and loud,” she said with a shudder. “I had one crawl up my leg, but was saved. Oh, and then there’s a huge bear that’s wandering the woods! And I think I heard about some pretty fireflies -- Oh, have you collected any of these charms? They’re really pretty and it’s been hard to decide what charms to collect,” she said, holding up the star charm she’d picked up.
She realized that she was probably talking too much, so she paused from looking up at the sky to offer Cecelia a sympathetic smile.
“Sorry, I get excited easily. Do you go to school around here? I went to DCU a couple years ago!”
Oh wow, she was getting older and didn’t want to think about it.

She watched as Charlie spun around and smiled. Cecelia looked back up at the sky and listened about the crazy things that had been happening that summer, and thought to herself that this person was the embodiment of sunshine. The excitement and joy coming off of her felt infectious. “Charm?” She said glancing back down and looking at the presented item. “Oh yeah, the charm!” She reached into her pocket to retrieve present a charm of her own. Before she got it all the way out she noticed the pause and change in tone. A little confused Cecelia responded, “Why would you apologize?” She looked Charlie in the eyes and in a more resolute tone she said, “Excitement is a good thing, and being excited easily, leads to more happiness. That sounds like a good thing to me.” She smiled softly and hoped her attempt to reassure her was successful. A smirk spread across her face, “The only difference is that I can respond in a similar, gushing manner. Now let me see…” She thought back to what was said and speaking quickly, in a similar manner she said, “I agree, this show is very chill, and there’s a lot going on this summer that is not. I don’t think I have run into any of that and thank goodness since I hike so much. I do not want to run into a bear.” She grimaced at that thought. “I have noticed the wildly quick growth of the plants around here, and seen some things disappear though.” “I’m actually enrolled in DCU currently, and I am hoping to get my degree next year!” Saying so much in excitement left a big smile on her face. “Oh yeah, the star charm!” She reached into her pocket again and finally presented her charm. “I wanted to show you. I got my first one just earlier when I entered the park.” As she put the charm away, she watched Charlie to see if her attempt had helped or hurt. “See not too bad, right? It’s nice to see people smile.” She worried for a moment she had gone overboard.

Oh, how Charlie wished she could show off her magic to Cecelia, but she knew it was possibly dangerous. Not just for herself but for Cecelia as well. She was trying to be good about keeping her secret identity protected. She had no idea if Cecelia was in the Negaverse! But she seemed so nice, so Charlie really doubted that.
But if she could just show off a little bit of magic, she would show how she could really make plants grow quickly. Although they would also disappear quickly, but still!
Charlie smiled brightly when she was told excitement was a good thing, and even brighter when Cecelia said she enrolled in DCU.
“Oh, that sounds wonderful! What are you going to school for? I took a lot of classes in art. I make jewelry, see?” she showed her, holding out a pendant of the necklace she was wearing, which was a sterling silver pegasus.
“I think I’m going to make some jewelry that looks like shooting stars next. But that’s good you haven’t run into a bear yet. It wasn’t fun, but it disappeared pretty quickly. And yeah! I like seeing people smile, too!” she grinned, pleased that Cecelia didn’t seem put off by her and that she was just as excitable, it seemed!

After studying Charlie for a moment, Cecelia could tell she wasn’t upset, she did notice, however, that she seemed to want to say something but chose not to. She felt it best not to pry. Relieved that Charlie seemed okay with what she had said, Cecelia relaxed. “That’s a pretty pendant!” “Oh, I’ve been taking some art classes too, but I’m working towards a business degree. Eventually, I’m hoping to start a little business selling my wooden sculptures and furniture. I don’t have any on me, unfortunately.” “Ooo, shooting starts do have a lot of potential. I bet that’ll be cool. Huh, now that you mention it, I’m getting an idea for a headboard designed around this scene. Hmm, “ she pulls an old receipt out of her pocket, “Let me sketch the idea real quick.” Cecelia takes a moment to make some outlines of the basics with her nails. “Sorry, it’s just so I don’t forget.” Before long, she holds up a tiny rough sketch, that is hard to make too much out of. “I’m not good at sketches, but it’s just for my future reference,” she says as she tucks it away. She looks up again and she’s see’s a few stars start to streak across the sky. “OOO”, she points, “that’s the first cluster I’ve actually seen tonight!” She was momentarily dazzled by the array of colors. Guine Sorry this took so long, there has been a lot going on sweatdrop

Oh. Oh! Cecelia was going to start sketching right then?? Charlie looked like this was a prize she didn’t even know she wanted until it was in front of her, and she tried very hard not to look too much over Cecelia’s shoulder as she quietly gushed over how artists were so cool. Charlie hoped that one day she could be cool, too. But it was always so fun to see someone so creative that they could just start doing art anywhere!
“Oh no no, please go ahead!” she insisted, completely invested in whatever Cecelia was drawing. And if she was going to make a whole headboard inspired by the stars? That was even more amazing!
“I think it’s a very good sketch! As long as you can remember how you felt when you saw everything, that should be what matters I think,” she smiled brightly, and then whipped her head around to look up at the stars again. Everything looked so magical she didn’t know if she would have seen them if Cecelia hadn’t been there to point them out!
“I would love to see some of your art. Would you be okay if I gave you my phone number? If you’re ever out and want some company, I would love to see any art you want to show off!”
