Prompt 10: Nature’s Boon
Flowers are blooming at an incredible place across the city and sometimes barren patches of grass can be overrun with flowers overnight. There have been heavy showers and a high pollen count but there doesn’t appear to be any other explanation. It is not uncommon to find trees with nearly double the leaves they usually have, with vines twisting up houses, flowers covering the front yard, or local fruits to have doubled in size. This isn't the first time Destiny City has seen such oddities, and there doesn’t seem to be any negative effects to this; scientists are questioning climate change. Or is it radiation?
Vaylin noticed that the flora around Destiny City seemed even more lively and vibrant than normal. She thought at first maybe she just wasn't used to the nature of this planet but then she saw on the television human scientist were also confused by the extent of the plant growth around the city. They suggested the possibility of climate change causing it or perhaps even radiation however Vaylin had another theory, magic. It was possible something or someone was infusing these plants with energy to enhance their growth. Regardless of the cause, it was worth studying in Vaylin's mind. If the cause could be found then it could possibly be sent back to Velencya to aid in agriculture.
Late at night Vaylin went out to a field she often walked by on her way home from her daycare job, normally the field had thin dry grass covering it but in the past few days it was thriving with thick vibrant green grass and covered in color flowers. It was honestly a lovely sight that Vaylin hoped would remain. She figured she would take some soil samples, local water samples, and samples of the actual plants. She dug up some of the soil trying to dig in a small out of the way spot so that she wouldn't damage too much of the field. She also carefully pulled out some grass, flowers, and leaves. She also cut down a vine and some fruit from an nearby tree. She wondered if the presence of Earth Knights perhaps helped contribute to this growth or was it something else. She put her samples into labeled jars and all that would be left now was collecting some of the water that had nourished those plants.
So she went back to the street to a nearby storm drain. She carefully slid her body into the thin opening for the rain water to slide into the catch basin. She couched down and scooped up some of the pooled water in her jar and then climbed back out. Setting all of her jars in a row she did a head count to make sure she had everything she wanted to analyze. Once she was sure she had everything she needed she carefully packed all the jars into her satchel and placed the bag into subspace. She actually finished relatively early so she decided to take the long way back to her apartment so that she could enjoy some of the cool night air.
As she passed by houses with beautiful flowering vines creeping up them the young corporal was reminded of her home, of Velencya. She thought about how the world was dying, thought of her parents and how much she wanted to give them a vibrant world like Earth. She thought about Lyndin and his plan, was she selfish to go against it. Caedus' death could save so many including those closest to her but it just didn't feel right. How could she live know their salvation came at the coast of one of their own, their king at that. She might be selfish but she wanted a solution where everyone could be happy even Caedus. She was determined to find another way, every bit of information that might help she'd collect as much of it as possible until a better solution was found.
