Insidious Insects (18 ) : In the first week of July, the area around the tree is just buzzing. The call of the cicadas is loud and droning, and it’s constant. You start to hear it all over town, too. All sorts of insects seem attracted to the strange pods, and it’s not uncommon to find nearly any species curiously investigating. If you listen closely, you notice something else strange–it’s not just the bugs that you see making the familiar call of the cicada. It seems like it’s coming from inside the pods, too. Any pod that wasn’t leaking sap suddenly begins to snap open, and giant cicadas, crawl out. Their full wingspan can reach up to a foot and they’re hungry–and angry. It seems like the pods that were leaking sap were slowly rotting, but the ones that didn’t leak were being eaten from the inside out–and now that the cicadas have run out of food, they’re out for anything they can find. Though there are several notable differences between these insects and the common cicadas, their low, chirping wail makes them easy to find–as well as the fact that they spit acid. These bugs are incredibly hostile and will attack indiscriminately, powered or unpowered, human or alien, day or night. They have a protective shell that makes them easy to crush but they’re hardly the most menacing foe you’ve faced–but if they reproduce, you could be in some real trouble. Better to crush them now before they become Destiny City’s next invasive species… Note: These creatures are a violent alien species that are aggressive and eager to destroy. They will attack everyone and everything within sight. The insects can fly, spit acid, and will try to burrow into the ground to hide. They are very fast and difficult to see. This RP can be used as a battle requirement for a character, separate from your ‘one youma battle’ per stage if there are two powered characters involved; you cannot write a solo and count this as a battle, and your character must be powered and interacting with another player’s powered character for it to count. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt. The view from even just the lower branches of this tree was really nice, he thought as he settled in. Carminite had been on patrol when he caught sight of this weirdly large tree and its weirdly large fruit. He’d heard of it and knew where it was, but this was the first time he’d come to see it for himself. To his surprise, they weren’t exaggerating.
The fruit were huge.
It was bizarre, actually, and made him wonder if this tree was some kind of youma variant that was able to bear fruit and give birth to youma children that way. The thought made the captain shudder as he looked out into the open space of the park. The moon was full that night so there was light enough to see if someone was approaching.
Soon enough there was, and he couldn’t help but grin at the sight of this particular knight. He felt a rematch on the horizon, so he hopped down from his perch and moved to stand just in front of the small collection of fallen pods of varying sizes.
“Evening,” he greeted when she seemed within earshot, his toothy smile bright under the moonlight. He was too focused on his newfound company to realize that a few of the pods behind him were shaking ever so subtly.

Cheomseongdae was patrolling, because she had a strong feeling that the excitement going on around the tree's waking up would make for a VERY tempting place for agents to hunt in... After all, people were enjoying gawking at the tree, and the very weird pods. It had not occurred to her to consider if the tree itself might be a youma or something else related to Chaos. She was scanning the environment, as she headed through the area, and felt a chaos signature, as she expected. She felt that it might be stronger than she was, but she was here and... Oh ********, he had found her first and it was DEFINITELY someone she recognized... And he was definitely someone who had every reason to hate her. That said, she was going to stand her ground. Worst case scenario, she would try to run and draw him away from victims. "Oh, a delightful one indeed. Always good to meet old acquaintances." She was trying to stall for time as she figured out the situation... And because of the angle they were at, she saw the shaking pods, and her eyes narrowed, just a little.

It was her luck, though perhaps not his most recent victims’, that there was no one else around right then. He’d already taken care of his energy quota and, on his way over, he made sure that he could inspect the tree and its pods with some degree of privacy. Trust a Knight to go and ruin that, of course.
Carminite summoned his weapon to his right bracer as she approached, his smile widening as she returned his greeting. “Couldn’t agree more. How long’s it been?” The gem-like blade shimmered bloody as he shifted his arm to make a small display of his new toy.
He was about to say more when he heard a loud crack just behind him, to his left. Then another, then another, and one more just a bit further off. He turned and looked down, and his expression changed to something between surprised and sickened at the sight of a giant cicada crawling out of a newly cracked open pod. A slew of expletives escaped him as he jumped back, toward Cheomseongdae.

"Ages, truly." She said, tone thoroughly dry and with only thinly veiled contempt at his presence. She might have gone on to make a snarky comment about how he had never been gentlemanly enough to introduce himself, but that was derailed ENTIRELY by the fact that the shaking pod now went 'CRACK' and she focused almost all of her attention on THAT instead. The only other thoughts that passed through her mind as she observed the exploding pods was that A. at least she was not the only one freaked out by this surprise development, and B. this ******** swore like her boyfriend, which caused a slight frown at the idea of him in association with the Negaverse. She stared at the huge bug, and might have said "******** this, I'm out." except that the damn things noticed them... And came at them. One even spit something at them, though it missed... However, the sizzling sound as it hit the pavement made it pretty clear that THIS was not a liquid she wanted to get touched by. Nate didn't need to clean acid burns twice for her, even if it had been an age since the last time. "Alright, let's put these pleasantries on hold, I think we have other concerns to deal with..." She snarled out, frustrated but aware that the bugs were going after both of them... And there was no way this would be good for anyone if they were left to reproduce or run around. She began to move back, watching how the freaky things moved.

”Fine by me,” the captain said, his face an absolute look of disgust as he dodged acid spit attacks from the oncoming bugs. There was the smallest sense of satisfaction in the back of his mind that he’d been right to feel weird about the pods. They were bug eggs! Alien bug eggs! Unfortunately that sense was easily dwarfed by the irritation of having to now handle the start of a potential infestation.
Carminite, like his unlikely partner for the evening, observed the bugs for a moment, bobbing and weaving and dodging acid spit as needed. Finally, though, when one flew at him he sidestepped and threw an almost awkward looking right hook. It seemed to do the trick, though; his blade cut through the bug like butter, and its remains fell to the ground with quiet thuds.
He gagged.
“Oh, that’s so ********’ gross.”
Not that he had time to wallow too much longer in his disgust as the remaining three wailed and flew and spit angrily at the pair, as though seeking revenge for its fallen brethren.

The page felt a strong sense of relief when the Nega chose NOT to argue with her, because having to deal with both him and the Giant Bugs was not her idea of a great time. She shifted position and said "Excellent, let's get this dealt with..." She pulled out her wand (she hated how small it was, how useless it often felt to her. However, she was going to do her best to use it against these disgusting insects, because she was not going down to these ********. She watched the way his attack played out and grimaced in disgust at the mess... But noticed they seemed weaker from below. As such, when one began to move straight towards her, she dropped, rolling a little, and used her wand to slam straight upwards into the belly area of the freaky little ********. The points of the star seemed to help, and the whole thing went up through and as the force of the bug's movement continued to carry it forwards, the wand itself essentially slit the rest of the bug in half, before the bug slammed into the ground with a hellish shriek.

This was honestly disgusting, but Carminite did his best to keep his stomach from turning inside out as they handled the giant cicadas. It wasn’t hard since they weren’t particularly intelligent things, but it was still gross. Considering what he’s seen while working his day job, that was saying something.
The next one came straight for him so it was an equally smooth slice after several side steps to avoid the acid spit, though on one step he felt himself slip ever so slightly. Glancing down, he curled his lip.
“Watch where you step,” he warned the knight, gesturing toward the bit of his shoe that had melted where the acid came into contact with it.

Cheomseongdae was softly swearing under her breath at the disgusting sensation of the bug guts that had spattered all over her hand and arm, but glanced up when he spoke and said "Noted..." Before dancing to the side, as another bug came at her. They were moving fast, and she worried others might hatch before they got this set down. On the one hand, better to get them dead instead of them deading a Civ, on the other hand this was gross as ******** and the acid was not a pleasant addition to her day. She moved towards the last of the critters (of the current lot, at least), eyes watching the way it moved side to side, with a lovely hint of up and down for spice and aggravation. When it darted towards her to spit, she dodged to the side, then slammed her wand through the damn thing's head, causing it to fall to the ground, dying and shrieking.

Carminite watched the knight handle the other one, far too distracted by his melting boot than he cared to admit, and once it was gone he dismissed his weapon. Hopefully when he resummoned it, it would magically be clean of the bug guts. He hoped the same for his uniform, which had splatters of the same.
“Well that was ********’ nasty,” he said, too annoyed about the situation to bother with being sarcastic. “So I’m done for the night. What say we have a proper rematch some other night when we haven’t been attacked by a bunch of alien ********’ cicadas?”

She was staring, disgusted and horrified, at the mess. The guts on her hand, on her wand, on her outfit. The splatters all over. The fact that there were STILL pods everywhere, and part of her wanted to get a group together to flamethrower the lot of them before more of the monstrous bugs hatched and attacked some poor civilians. She glanced up at him, at his words, her eyes narrowing for a long moment, then snorted, just a little. "Rain check, fine with me... I want this disgusting crap off of me before I give in to the urge to vomit. It's so disgusting." She carefully began to back away, because the last thing she was going to do was trust a Nega, despite the fact that they had just been fighting together. "Later then..." She immediately turned and got out of range, just in case, running until she got to somewhere with a sink. There was no ******** way she was going to change back before washing the guts off her hands. She didn't want THAT on her clothing.

”See ya.”
Carminite snorted at the way she slowly backed away. Could she make it any more obvious that she had absolutely no trust in him? Not that he trusted her at all either, so he didn’t comment. Before she even started running off he had teleported away, more than ready for a shower before spending the rest of the night with his girlfriend. Preferably huddled closely together, hot weather be damned.
They had air conditioning, after all.
