Name: Owaen
Stage: Prentice
Race: Lightening
Gender: Male
3 Base Traits: Friendly, prickly, Rough and Tumble
Personality:
Friendly - Owaen can be one of the most friendly of people you can come across. With his want to see people happy and enjoying life, he'd happily give some things away for free if it brought joy in the end. But his friendliness can only stretch so far. He has a real problem with getting burned if he extends a hand to the wrong people. Those that take his kindness and friendliness as a weakness and try to reap more rewards than others.
Prickly as a Cactus - But all these are well and good, Owaen has a prickly side, where he is much like a cactus when something has him in a mood. Could be anything from someone trying to start a bar fight, to people beating up another without cause. These can wear on him to the point he becomes someone you don't really want to be around.
Rough and Tumble - Who doesn’t like a good brawl once and a while? Even if his fighting has gotten him into trouble throughout his youth, Owean can’t help but pick a fight now and again. This may also have been a bad habit or two he picked up from the local street kids.
History: Owaen didn’t have the greatest of starts in his youth. His father was a raging alcoholic and often found his item to vent on, Owaen’s mother. While the woman took the blows and verbal whacks, she refused to leave the man whom she had loved in her own youth. Who knew that he would turn out to be this way? His father had been fired from his shipwright job and had taken up drinking. Basically flushing all their savings down the drain, Owaen’s mother maintained her job as a seamstress for the local boutique that sold anything from evening dresses to wedding gowns. Even taking commissions for special pieces if the buyer offers the right payment. Owaen was an unexpected addition to the family. His father was well against bringing a child into this world, though it didn’t stop him from drinking and striking at Owaen’s mother.
After Owaen’s birth, his father continuously tried to get rid of the child, though his mother refused to let anything happen to her precious boy. She stuck up to Owaen’s father and often refused to let him back in when he was too drunk to understand. Years passed and Owaen’s home life became worse when he was old enough that his father wasn’t afraid to lash out at him. Owaen got into trouble often with the street kids that ran through the alleyways, anything to just stay away from his father. The man staggered around like a bum most of the day when he was not sleeping drunk. He asked his mom why they still lived with the man and she only told him that the love was still there, even if it was hidden beneath the fog. He didn’t want to believe that the man he called a father ever loved his mother.
As time passes, Owaen indeed got into trouble trying to smash every bottle of alcohol in a tavern that his father frequented. He wanted to try and stop his father from drinking away his mother’s money and do something with his life again. This prompted a call to Owaen’s mother and an agreement that Owaen would work to pay for the bottles he had broken. His father on the other hand was jailed for breaking into someone else’s home and attacking the couple in a drunken rage. He hadn’t realized the home hadn’t been his own, nor the couple inside weren’t his wife and kid. Owaen worked hard over the summer days when he wasn’t attending classes to make up for the days he may have skipped.
He is still a troubled boy, someday he will wash away the images his father instilled upon him as to how a man behaves and find his own path. But with the help of the kind, yet disciplined, barkeep and his mother’s gentle guidance, Owaen can forge his own path away from the destruction his father had brought into his life. The future was starting to look bright.
