Insidious Insects (18 ) : In the first week of July, the area around the tree is just buzzing. The call of the cicadas is loud and droning, and it’s constant. You start to hear it all over town, too. All sorts of insects seem attracted to the strange pods, and it’s not uncommon to find nearly any species curiously investigating. If you listen closely, you notice something else strange–it’s not just the bugs that you see making the familiar call of the cicada. It seems like it’s coming from inside the pods, too. Any pod that wasn’t leaking sap suddenly begins to snap open, and giant cicadas, crawl out. Their full wingspan can reach up to a foot and they’re hungry–and angry. It seems like the pods that were leaking sap were slowly rotting, but the ones that didn’t leak were being eaten from the inside out–and now that the cicadas have run out of food, they’re out for anything they can find. Though there are several notable differences between these insects and the common cicadas, their low, chirping wail makes them easy to find–as well as the fact that they spit acid. These bugs are incredibly hostile and will attack indiscriminately, powered or unpowered, human or alien, day or night. They have a protective shell that makes them easy to crush but they’re hardly the most menacing foe you’ve faced–but if they reproduce, you could be in some real trouble. Better to crush them now before they become Destiny City’s next invasive species…
Note: These creatures are a violent alien species that are aggressive and eager to destroy. They will attack everyone and everything within sight. The insects can fly, spit acid, and will try to burrow into the ground to hide. They are very fast and difficult to see. This RP can be used as a battle requirement for a character, separate from your ‘one youma battle’ per stage if there are two powered characters involved; you cannot write a solo and count this as a battle, and your character must be powered and interacting with another player’s powered character for it to count. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

Proto could not believe her luck right now…
She forgot to call for a partner while on patrol and well, she was now being chased by acid-spitting insects that also bite by the way. “Stasis Bubble!” came a rather undignified squeak. A opalescent bubble shot from her hand, encasing two insects in one bubble, which helped some but there was still a whole a** horde chasing her. “Why why why whyyyyy! Just stop it already! Ouch!” She yelped, smacking one bug away with her fist while attempting to kick one with her left foot. The bug fell to the ground and she immediately stepped on it, almost retching at the disgusting sound of it crunching. This seemed to piss the bugs off even more and she quickly started running, arms flailing while she tried to figure out just what she could do. The senshi quickly leaped out of the way of some acid, already feeling the burn of a previous shot on her shoulder.
This just wasn't fair…
Huntite had been out collecting energy for his quota when he felt the familiar signature. As he was pretty much done for the day it didn’t take long to decide to change his course. Roof hopping a few blocks later led him to the outskirts of one of the many parks in the city. He jumped down onto one of the pathways and continued on until he came across the sight of the mirror Senshi being attacked. Wasting no time in summoning his bow and arrows, he let one fly to impale one of the bugs that was about to spit on the Senshi. “Not what I was expecting but also not surprising.” He said out loud to help catch her attention. “Might want to find cover.” Shadows shifted and Fenrir joined the battle to pounce on top of one of the bugs, ripping its wings out.
Oh thank god!
As much as she would love to just tackle Hunt to the ground in thanks, she chose the smarter option, taking cover behind a tree that was pretty far from the bugs, the comment just hit her then when she had a chance to calm down. “Hey! I managed to s-squish a couple!” She looked a little green in the face, “I would say that was somewhat surprising!” She yelped when acid was thrown her way, summoning a bubble and tossing it out at the swarm of bugs. Seeing Fenrir made her wish she had something like a youma all on her own. But since things like that weren't exactly allowed in the mirrorverse she would have to just wish. She saw a small light in the corner of her eye, looking in the direction she saw it, nothing was there. Strange, that's the second time that has happened. Maybe she should get new glasses and take a break from contacts.
A smirk twisted at Huntite’s lips as he continued to shoot arrows at the bugs, each arrow landing its shot more often than not. “I meant the mutant bugs but if you want to take it as a comment about your fighting prowess well, that just means more training for you I suppose.” He snarked at her, looking over to see Fenrir don a few more. He didn’t bother to aim at any of the bugs currently caught within the Senshi’s power, knowing that it wouldn’t do anything until they were free. “How did you even get into this mess?”
She paled at the thought of “more training”, letting out a frustrated sigh. This would give Fenrir a chance to go “hunting”, something she would pass on thank you. “Nope. No training for me, I'm not giving Fenrir an excuse” She huffed, looking away while she squished a couple bugs under her foot. “I-I don't know! I was being a stealthy ninja, walked past this big tree and all of a sudden, bugs started hissing and chasing me. They spit acid! acid!” She pointed to the holes in her fuku with a frustrated sigh. Granted the outfit will repair itself next time she powers up but it was still annoying. After squishing more bugs she looked to Hunt with a blush, “Thank you! I'll uhhh make it up to you later.” Once her bubble popped, she picked up a rock and threw it with all her might at the confused bug, knocking it down and unconscious.
“I don't know, might be handy to get some more training under your belt.” The smirk widened at her huffing. “Well there is an offer I couldn’t possibly turn down.” There thankfully wasn’t many more to clean up after that and it only took a few more minutes before the bugs were all killed off. Huntite gave it a moment more of vigilance before sending his weapon away. Fenrir of course demanded attention before he too was sent away. “You alright?” He asked, turning all of his attention onto Proto, giving her a look over for wounds.
“No Fenrir then I'll consider it~” She knew Hunt wouldn't let her come to harm, but ever since that night of the meteor shower, taking chances was something she was not about to do for at least a month. “You don't even know how I'm going to make it up to you so I wouldn't be too excited~” there was a small giggle, frankly she didn't really get that far as usual but she was sure she would figure something out soon enough. Nodding, Proto sighed, “I'm fine, I think my pride as a potato is hurt though, could’ve done better with the stupid bugs.” She huffed again, “But there were so many and I panicked.” There was an eyeroll there, “Hopefully next time I won't be so damsely~” she coughed then winced, “I mean, Oh noooo I'm so hurt Huntie….I need assistance!” Finishing that last bit without laughing was impossible at that point.
Huntite made no promises about whether he would or would not include Fenrir in training, at least out loud. He figured the two could use some time separate anyway so wouldn’t have included the youma. The captain rolled his eyes with a smile at her responses though. “Poor damsel in distress, don’t you know I’m no knight to come save you?” he teased with a chuckle. Hunt stepped around the fallen bodies to stand next to her and lightly patted her head with a bit of exaggeration, though his next words were sincere. “You did a good job though all things considered.” After all, he didn't want to discourage her. She did after all manage to take out a few on her own without having to rely on offensive magic like many of the other Senshi had to.
Proto widened her eyes, gasping and covering her mouth, “Oh noooo! It's a knight in black armor!” She was still entertained, smiling and huffing at the head pat. “Thank you~” She meant it despite the fact that she wanted to tell him she was not a pet damn it. “Just because I am shorter than you doesn’t mean you get to head pat sir~” Although, the head pats were kind of nice, not that she was about to tell him that.
“Oh and what are you going to do to stop me from doing it short stuff?” He smirked then patted her head again just to prove a point. “Now, let’s get out of her before any more unwanted attention shows up.” Huntite led her out of the park and away from the mess left behind. If need be, he could always come back later to dispose of the bodies safely.
