Quote:
The Fairies (7) : The City has been lit up for the Star Festival with banners and twinkling decorations strewn off the windowsills of shop fronts and windows. The gardeners at one particular park have put their heart and soul into creating a fairy's paradise: Fairy lights have been carefully dangled from trees to make strings of stars, little beaded jewels have been hidden among the hedges, and even the old cobwebs have been sprayed with just a touch of glitter. The park is open to everyone and the citizens of Destiny City have been invited to respectfully explore the hidden wonders that have been placed throughout. The park is magical enough on its own but there have also been reports of a strange, ethereal and shimmering stranger in the park. The glimmer of a beautiful costumed figure fluttering through the park has been passed around as rumor, and no matter what anyone claims to see, no one can take a picture of it. As if simply seeing some magical figure isn’t mysterious enough, there are also reports of mischief and small pranks being played at the same time this figure seems to appear.

Daphne had found herself drawn to the fairy park, and had spent time here every night for the past few days now.

It reminded her of home. For one thing, it was warm now, warm enough that she could go outside during the night without turning into a shivering mess, and that was something that she couldn't say most of the time on Earth. Back on Daphne, that had been different, and there had been many places like this set up. Gardens were everywhere, in between all of the buildings, and on terraces and roofs, too, strung with lights like this so that people could see in the hours when the sun wasn't so scorching.

She came, powered up, because she wasn't going to hide herself, not here, not when she was finally taking the time to try to remember, to let herself remember, instead of pushing all of her feelings about her past and her world down and away the way she had when she first came to Earth.

Instead, her tail flicked behind her as she switched between watching the lights and watching the way that people mingled around.

Nobody had said anything about it. Not yet.

Ersa had heard about this ‘fairy park’ and finally she decided to come and see it. She wasn’t going to go as herself but…she desperately wanted to be Ersa for a while…and if this was supposed to be some magical place then…perhaps she wouldn’t stick out too badly…

It was pretty…but she hadn’t yet seen any actual fairies, but…there was another Senshi here and after hesitating for a few moments she made her way over and paused for a moment, staring at the slowly swishing tail that was sticking out of the back of her skirt and…

“...Excuse me? I…are you like me?”

She obviously wasn’t human…and she didn’t fully look like a Mauvian but..

Her own tail twitched slightly and her ears quivered as she waited for a response.

…Hopefully this Senshi was friendly.

Another aura was enough to shift Daphne's attention away from the fairy lights and towards the various figures in the area. Now that she knew she had to do something about the Chaos on her world if she truly wanted to put her family to rest in the way that they deserved, she was trying harder again to find whatever friends and allies she could.

She wasn't necessarily expecting to see the silhouette that she did, of someone with a delicate tail, and ears, and a horn on top of it all. Unless there was something about Earth that Daphne had missed in her time here, this girl was clearly from somewhere else, and her clothes were in pastels that reminded Daphne of home.

"I think so," she murmured. "I'm not from Earth."

She flicked her tail once or twice on purpose.

"I'm from Daphne, or a Daphne from a long time ago, " she glanced out, waving towards the lights, "Which was a little like this."

Ersa perked up slightly, and tried to keep her face as even as possible, but here ears were twitching with excitement. “I…am also not from the Earth…I had heard that there were others like me here but I haven’t had the chance to meet anyone before. I am Sailor Ersa, the Senshi of purity, and it is so nice to meet you Daphne!”

She wanted to hug her. Wanted to just assure herself that she truly wasn’t the only one that was like her here on this planet…reassure herself that there were others feeling just as displaced as she was.

“How did you get here? Did…did something bad happen on your world too? My mother said that I was going to sleep for a little while to keep me safe but…I…guess I slept for a thousand years so…something went wrong…”

…And Lysithea hadn’t shown up.

Daphne was smiling, too. There was always some sense of connection with the others that weren't from Earth, no matter what their story was.

The stories did tend to be similar, though. There was always Chaos. There was always chaos, and that made something hot and angry flare up in Daphne's chest. After the Chaos, the senshi watched their world and family fade and die over a thousand years.

She hadn't heard of anyone else who had slept through it all, and she sat up straighter, tail straightening too.

"On my world, it was war," she said, patting the seat on the bench next to her, like they were just trading gossip. "People were coming after me. I called out to my world to protect me, and it looks like it did, for a thousand years, because the next thing I knew I was here."

So, it was the same kind of thing with this Senshi as well…that…made Ersa feel terribly sad and yet…happy that she had something in common with this Daphne.

She sat down and swallowed, collecting her thoughts for a moment before speaking again. “So…have you gone back to your home? Was anyone still there? I…I haven’t tried to go back yet…I was told that nobody would be there and that…I mean. I suppose that I’m just a coward too, because the idea of trying to go there and not finding anyone or anything makes me want to cry so…I’m kind of against going back for that reason too but…”

She should. It was her responsibility…she had so many responsibilities that she just couldn’t keep up with anymore…and truthfully? Ersa didn’t really want to…

They weren't easy questions to answer, but it seemed that this girl was at least seeking honest answers instead of avoiding the information the way that Daphne had done.

"I didn't go back for a long time," said Daphne, because she didn't think lying here would be any help. "If I didn't go back, I could pretend that everyone here was mistaken about how long it had been. I could pretend there'd be something left to save when I did return."

She let out a long breath.

"There wasn't." It was easier to talk about now. Her voice didn't even shake.

"I cried about it," she admitted. "I cried about it for a long time. Eventually someone bought me a grave to cry in front of, which helps a little." A moment passed. "I almost turned to Chaos, too, which was stupid, but-" she shurgged. "More tempting than it should have been."

She could still picture the illusory face of her father, and she had to shake her head to drive it away.

Ersa hesitated and chewed her lip, reaching out to place a hand on Daphne’s shoulder. “I…haven’t really cried. I mean…I suppose that…I…did a little bit but…”

It doesn’t really…it didn’t really do anything…it hadn’t fixed anything, hadn’t brought her mother back…hadn’t even brought any kind of comfort from anyone but…

“I…have not found that crying is useful to me…but…I’m glad that it brought you some help…” The thought of her going to Chaos though.

“...What do you mean by you nearly turned to Chaos? I don’t think that I understand?”

At the question about Chaos, Daphne’s lips parted into something of a snarl, revealing slightly catlike looking teeth. “I don’t know for sure what I mean myself,” she said. “I wasn’t thinking of it in terms of joining the Negaverse, but,” she shrugged.

“When we were on this other planet, trying to fight the Chaos there, there were these illusions. It showed me my father.” There were tears in her eyes. There wasn’t any getting around that. “It let me hug my father.”

She hadn’t been lying about having she’d many, many tears.

“I found the crystal that had been the source of the illusion. The Chaos crystal. I would have taken it if my friend hadn’t stopped me. Would have done anything to see more.”

It was a disturbing thought, now.

“...What would have happened…if you would have taken it? That sounds frightening…I am sorry that it tried to trick you, and I’m sorry that you have lost your father. I do understand how that feels…my father was killed before I ever became Ersa…he fell ill and never recovered…it was very sad…”

But at least she had closure that he was dead…it seemed that this Senshi didn’t have… “That must have been very jarring…”

She twisted slightly and wrapped her arms fully around the Senshi, giving her the hug that her father couldn’t any longer. “...I am glad that you did not take it. I’m glad that you didn’t let the Chaos win…”

"I don't know," said Daphne, honestly. "Maybe I would have died. Maybe I would have turned into something that hurt other people, just for a chance at an illusion, a lie."

At least Ersa's arms around her now were solid, and warm. She leaned closer to the other girl, wrapping her soft tail around her, too.

"I'm glad I didn't, too," she murmured.

"I'm finding that there are people here worth living for, worth pushing back against the Chaos for."

Maybe she'd just found another one of them. There was already a protective feeling swelling up in her chest towards this girl who was so much like her.

"And I'm sorry about your father, too."

“I have found a few nice people. I have found you and Hestia, and you are both wonderful. I have found someone in a store who encouraged me to share candy with people to try to bring joy, I have found nice people…but I am very glad that I came here while I was myself so that we could meet.”

Maybe…they could…be friends and patrol together too. Maybe they could really be friends and just…support one another…that would be wonderful.

“Can we be friends, Daphne? I would like that very much if we could be…I…just want to be friends with people and I want to be able to feel joy but…it is difficult.”

Daphne was getting quite comfortable on the park bench, and she wiped her tears away. It was getting quite comfortable on the bench where they were sitting. The lights still twinkled nicely overhead.

It was easier to focus on the present. It was easy to focus on her new friend.

"Of course," she murmured. "Let's be friends."
