Kyrrha walked through the shallows at the cliff base with her eyes locked on the rocky shore. A woven pack was hanging from her hip, and inside it were a few clams that would make for a delicious soup later! This area of the cliffs was only available to search when the tide was out, leaving a narrow strip of shore exposed for those willing to try. While she technically wasn't supposed to be out there alone, the rest of her family was too busy with other activities to join her. So, alone it was! What her mothers didn't know wouldn't hurt them, right? Traversing the rocks was slow going but easy enough for the light footed figure of the youngling. What was the big deal anyway?

Naia remembered leaving home to go exploring, the hapuna determined to seek out treasure throughout the deep seas. What she had not expected was the crazy storm that had destroyed her boat and sent her adrift into foreign waters. Thankfully she had her heritage which kept her alive since she could easily swim and cut through the ocean waters, only needing to stop whenever she found a decent island where she could rest up and try to find some sort of nourishment. Fruits, broken coconuts and salted fish had become her savoirs over the last week since she was sent adrift and it was only now that she found herself facing a larger landmass. Had she finally hit one of the earthling countries? Here was hoping! Naia climbed out of the ocean, shaking the salty water from her hair before venturing forward to see whatever she could find along these particular cliffs.

The sounds of the crashing waves covered most other noises as Kyrrha continued her hunt. She spotted a large crab scurry under a rock and lit up with excitement. That would be the perfect addition to the soup! She rushed forward and dropped to her knees, and her hand darted under the rock without hesitation. "Come on.." She raised her head to get above a wave.. and spotted the brightest red figure she had ever seen.
She went completely still, the water lapping around her hips as she stared. What...? Where had that come from? The sand swept around her hand, and a sudden pain shot up her arm. "Yowchie!" She fell back and raised her hand to see the crab had not appreciated the invasion of its space, her finger now trapped in its pincer grip.

A yell caught Naia's attention and she felt herself whipping around with worry. Someone had yelled? Why? Those questions though completely got wiped away as she realized that someone had yelled. That meant there was life here! That or some sort of creature that sounded far too much like an actual person...Naia shook her head before running up the coast, trying to spot the source of the noise. "Hello? Oh, hello there!" She brightened up as she saw someone that looked a little small, perhaps a child, of a foreign race. "You seem to have a small crab there, is that normal?" She glanced towards the crustacean that was holding the youngling's finger hostage.

Kyrrha's hand flailed to try getting rid of the cranky crustacean, but to no avail. When she used her other hand to pull on it, it just pinched tighter and attempted to grab her other hand! She was so focused on the crab that she had already forgotten why she had lost focus in the first place. A squeak of surprise escaped her at the voice and she jumped quickly to her feet.
"You.. mean this?" She held up the captive hand and frowned. "No.. no, this isn't normal. Actually, it really hurts." She tried another tug, but only earned another tight pinch again. Oh, this crab was definitely turning into soup later. She gave the stranger a wary look, and decided to risk it. "Could you help me get it off?"

"Oh, that's good then." Naia grinned, a soft laugh following her words as she approached the youngling. "I was hoping that crabs on fingers weren't the style for this area. I would really prefer to not wear one." She joked before gesturing for the youngling to hold out her hand. "Follow me to the water." She smiled encouragingly, leading the way to the shallow water and motioning with her own hand.
"Just hold him out like this and he'll chill. Trust me." She had learned the trick from dealing with the pesky creatures when she was a youngling. She had tried beating one up, bashing it against the shore a few times but it only held onto her finger tighter. It wasn't until her grandmother showed her this trick that she realized it was best to just let the crab go back into the water and let him swim away.

Kyrrha pressed her lips slightly. Was this woman okay? Still, she followed along, eager to get her finger released. She knelt down and held out her hand into the water. The crab bobbed a bit with the water, but kept its hold for the time being. Kyrrha looked over to the stranger curiously. "Are you sure this'll work? Why should I trust you?" Not that she wasn't going to give the suggestion a chance. She just knew there were certain procedures for meeting with strangers!

"I have experience, so that's why." Replied Naia without missing a beat. "These crabs are all over my home, so I've dealt with their type before." She moved closer, her feet splashing into the water as she held out a finger. "Sometimes you have to be super patient and other times you can try this as well..." She lightly rubbed her finger up and down the crab's back, trying to coax it to relax so that it would finally let go of the finger and slip away in the water.

"Oh." That certainly made sense. Kyrrha didn't think the woman was lying. She was certainly strange though! Kyrrha would never have imagined someone petting a crab! Yet, sure enough, she saw the creature start to float away as her finger was released. She yanked her hand up to her chest to inspect it. The sudden movement startled the crab and it skuttled off away from the pair as quickly as it could. Kyrrha sighed. Her finger would surely bruise, but the skin hadn't broken. She looked to the stranger and gave her a small smile. "Thanks. ...That was really neat, what you did with the crab."

"You're welcome." Chirped Naia with a grin. "Perks of living in the water for half of my life." She gestured towards her obvious Kahi traits, her finned ears a dead give away...at least in her opinion. Not that she knew much about earthlings, this one even had antenna! She was an earthling, right? Or was that the other race? Naia frowned thoughtfully before shaking her head. "If your finger is alright then I would recommend an ointment made out of crushed cooling herbs to help with the bruising. Crabs have a nasty grip, right?"

Kyrrha blinked a few times. "Did you say in the water?" She cocked her head for a moment before her expression lit up with recognition. "Oh! You're one of the Kahakayas that my aunts and cousins live near!" She was never able to remember the correct way to say the word... but most could figure out what she was talking about. "What are you doing way out here? Do you have family here, too?"
She glanced at her finger and held it protectively to her chest a little more. "I know we'll have something like that back home. My mothers always make sure the health kits are full, just in case." She looked to the stranger and let out a soft huff. "It wouldn't have got me, but I was distracted by you." She wasn't exactly blaming Naia. Moreso stating what she saw as a fact to clear her own name.

Naia laughed at the pronounciation. Close enough, right? "Yeah. I'm a hapuna, more specifically." She expressed with a nod. "My name is Naia and you are? I've never seen anyone with such curly antennae before." The question about her existence in the island had Naia shaking her head. "I'm an explorer, a storm sent me all the way out here so I'm just making due. No family out here or anything like that."
"Oh? So it was my fault. I'm sorry." Naia tried to look sincere but it was hard not to smile. She had never expected to be the reason for a crab to strike someone! "Were you trying to sneak up on the crab or something?" She teased quietly, still studying the strange child and trying to figure out all those unique traits.

"A hapuna?" Kyrrha felt the wariness give way to excitement and interest. She had only heard about those like Naia! Oh, and it seemed the stranger felt the same about her? "I'm Kyrrha." Her good hand unconsciously rose to brush along one antennae. "I'm an Elarian," she stated with a proud lift of her chin. An explorer! Very interesting!
The apology earned a small nod of acceptance. "It's okay... I don't think you did it on purpose. That would have been mean and you seem nice." Another nod revealed her goals with the crab. "I was going to catch it for soup with these clams I found. Have you hunted clams before?"

"An Elarian." Repeated Naia with interest. "So you're not an earthling race, right?" She truly had so much to learn about this world! "Nice to meet you, Kyrrha."
"Clams? All the time." Naia smirked, "I've been living on fish and clams for the past couple of weeks while island hopping. Want some help trying to capture some more? Maybe we can pick up another pesky crab or two...just not with your finger."

Kyrrha giggled and shook her head. "Of course not. Elarians are Aishans! We're much different than earthlings. There are earthlings here on Yael though. We don't see them much." Interactions between the Elarians and the Yaeli weren't exactly the easiest, but they weren't at complete odd like she heard they had once been. As long as everyone was polite, nothing would happen.
Oh! Perfect! "If you don't mind helping! We can be sure to get some for you, too." She would never expect to get help without giving something in return. If they found enough clams, they would both certainly benefit. "I want to find that crab again." Her lips pressed into a pout. She wanted justice for her finger!
