The concept of traveling for days on end wasn't new to Selim, but doing so without a troupe to back him up was. He had his brother, of course, though now that the twins were seemingly taking on the world by themselves it felt somehow harder than it ever had. They were in a new land, with new rules and roads he'd never been on, with only the vaguest ideas to guide them. The only constant that remained was the need for coin and that was precisely why Selim had been working so much lately. Odd jobs, street performances; whatever he could do for a bit of travel funds. Today he was happy enough on the dock, his eyes taking in the scenery around him while he 'stretched'. Of course normal flexing for him was performing a handstand scorpion pose as easily as some may sit.

"Whoa!!" Izel had been out with his new familiar when he'd caught sight of someone doing some kind of handstand. The youngling had been instantly amazed. Not only because he couldn't do it but because it seemed as if that person put almost no effort at all into it. "How'd you do that?" He took a chance to get closer, his head tilting to the side so he might eventually be able to see the guy's face right side up. The poor Loatoa he was holding squirmed a bit at the tilt but didn't seem like he was going to escape just yet.

Selim turned his head toward the speaker, and offered a smile the child's way. He wasn't surprised that he'd been joined by someone else, if anything he was freely advertising his skills while he stretched, but sometimes it was just fun to show off for the younger crowds. "Lots and lots of practice. I started when I was around your age."The contortionist slowly started to shift his positioning so that his feet dropped to the ground in front of him. With his forearms parallel to the ground and his torso twisted, feet flat on the ground in front of him, he was able to fully see the boy. "Wanna try?"

Practice made sense. Izel didn't think he'd be able to do enough practicing to make anything close to that anytime soon though. As the guy moved into a different position that reminded him of a table, the youngling seemed to be unsure which way to turn his head. Then everything was right side up and he could see the guy's face more clearly. "I don't think I can be an earthling table like that. I might break my back." He leaned to the side to examine the guy's spine a bit and gave a worried look. "Doesn't that hurt?"

Thankfully Selim had chosen not to wear his hairpins otherwise they would have been jabbing into his backside. While other performers in his troupe could get away with more elaborate costumes and hairstyles his were on the simpler side. As much as he would have loved a feathered mantle it just wasn't practical with his work. He rolled his shoulders a bit to really get comfortable, and honestly, with as often as he'd done the pose it wasn't hard. "Nope. I stretch every day so it doesn't bother me." When he was older his body was going to hate him, but that was for future Selim to worry about. "What kind of furry friend do you have there? I'm new here so I don't really know what it is."

His eyes took in all the movements and when Selim moved his shoulders Izel subconsciously copied the movement. If a bit awkwardly. Just what kind of stretching did this man do to be able to do that? "Do I wanna know how you stretch?" Did he have some big guy come a stretch out his back by pulling him apart like one does with the sticky buns? The question about his familiar caught him off guard and he looked down at the Loatoa he was holding as if he'd forgotten it was there. "This is Jensen. He's a Loatoa. They are from Sauti but I asked my uncle to get me one." Izel lifted the creature up to show him off. Thankfully it'd been trained to be manhandled.

"This is stretching," Selim grinned. After he'd done a fair amount of showing off Selim moved back into a handstand position before swinging his legs back, careful not to get too close to the kid and his pet, before dropping down to sit on the ground. Nice and simple. "You should drop by the square later this evening. Bring your family and a few friends; I'm putting on a show." Most of the adults would be wrapped up with work by then so any big spenders would be out and about. "A Loatoa?" That thing has the patience of a saint. It didn't seem to mind being tossed around by the kid at all. "Ah, a fellow traveler then. I knew we had something in common, Jensen."

That was stretching? Izel wasn't so sure he wanted to know what a full performance was then! Still, the invite to come see a show was met with a huge smile. "Sure. I have a big family." He could always sweet talk all his cousins into joining him. Being one of the younger ones meant the older ones had to spoil you. He moved the familiar closer to him, shifting so that it was held in one arm instead of with two hands. The loatoa just wiggled a bit and gave a huff before relaxing. Clearly the poor animal didn't get to walk on its own much. Izel was still too excited about having the pet. "Jensen is really fuzzy. Not as much as Juniper, my friend's Loatoa, but he still has to grow."

"You do?" Was he exaggerating the excitement? Yeah, but he was also taking a tone that most did around kids. Besides, he really was excited about the prospect of a big family coming to see him. If he could get his brother in one the act then they might get enough coin to really get things moving. "In that case I'm going to make sure it's a really good show so you'll all have something to talk about." Selim couldn't help the little laugh that slipped out as he watched the pair. It was clear the animal was loved, even if it might be borderline smothered. "He is really fuzzy. What kind of things do Loatoa's eat? Does he...like fish? Or does he-" Selim dropped his voice to a whisper, "-eat bugs."

"Yep!" He popped the 'p' at the end before he held up his empty hand to count off family members. "There's mom and dad, my two older brothers, my sister, then me, and my aunt and uncle.." He'd run out of room on the first hand so he put Jensen down to count on the other hand as well. "And they have seven kids.." He hadn't gotten to the other kids yet either. Or their partners. But he was definitely out of fingers. Izel looked from one hand to the other at a loss of how to keep counting. Jensen gave a shake of his fur when he was put down but otherwise didn't leave Izel's side. The beast did perk up when it heard fish. Izel giggled and shook his head. "Jensen likes smoked fish." The beast was spoiled.

That was a lot of family members. The financially savvy part of his brain was figuring up how much he could charge each one to see the show, but there was also a side of Selim that balked at the idea of a big family. The troupe had always been close; close as blood most days. Still, at the end of the day, it was just himself, his brother and their mother. If he had that many siblings then one or more of them would have tried to drown him for sure. "Smoked fish? Wow, he eats better than I do." After days and days of hard tact on the road Selim could have used a little smoked fish. Maybe some fresh veggies, seasoned in some of those really hot Oban spices? "Is that as big as he's going to get or is he still little?"

Izel gave a little grin and another giggle. "I didn't want him to eat anything bad." So the choice for the beasts food had been up to the little one. When asked if the Loatoa would get any bigger the youngling glanced down at him with a bit of thought. "Mm.. Juniper was a little bit bigger than him but not by much. Maybe just this much.." He held up his left hand to show a measurement between his fingers. It was the equivalent of about two inches. Which meant the beast would be a small one in comparison to some of the others. "He's perfect for me though." Izel beamed. "Did you want one?" The boy was curious to know if the twisty man wanted a familiar to keep him company.

"I don't think that's a good idea." Selim crossed his legs on the dock and while one was laying lazily atop his thigh he held the other out toward Jensen. If the beast wanted to sniff it he could or he could keep his distance. "I travel a lot, and sometimes I don't eat the tastiest things. I'm fine just seeing people like you who can take really good care of their furry friends." Several troupe members had familiars as part of their acts, some even as personal pets, but it wasn't ever really a good idea with them. He and his brother had gotten into far too much trouble growing up for their mother to permit a pet.

Jensen, while trained to stick close to Izel, was a very curious beast still. So when there was a hand offered to him he moved forward enough to sniff at it. Izel didn't seem to mind, though he did look down at his companion when he moved but the conversation distracted him. "Oh.." A frown formed on his little face before he reached up to poke at his cheek, creating a dimple. "My friend travels a lot too. He said sometimes his familiars go hunting for their own food." Of course he wasn't so sure what a Loatoa would hunt since they are so small. "Oh! You could get a bigger familiar. One that can hunt food for both of you. Then you could both eat tasty things!" He gave Selim a big grin like he'd just solved the biggest problem in the world.

Now that Jensen was moving closer Selim carefully tilted his hand just enough to attempt a petting. It wasn't much, just a little so he wouldn't spook the beast. When he looked up from the familiar to it's master he couldn't help smiling in return. Sometimes kids could be the most annoying things on the planet, and others he found himself envious of their innocence. Just like that the problem was solved! If only life were that easy. "Oh I'm sure my brother would love that. Maybe I could find something really big like a Janarim? I think that would be able to find it's own food and maybe some for us too." Oh Cyril would flip out.
