He’d gotten a request from a family friend to tame and deliver a snaptrotter some weeks back. Of course the beast had taken a bit of time to work with but after the first few days it hadn’t been so bad. Only a few close calls when it came to feeding time. Which he was used to. Most beasts had to ensure they were getting their next meal before they worried about being friendly.

There was an undeniable feeling of nervousness inside him. Today he was getting his mount. He’d selected a snaptrotter when he’d finally gone through everything he’d learned. It was a beast native to where he lived so care would be easier and it was just the right size for him. And possibly his brothers as well if they were up to their antics. Still, he’d found the beast to be a good fit after all things considered.

He rode his own beast while he led the other with a lead line. The three of them made their way to the ranch with no particular hustle. He didn’t want to exhaust the snaptrotter before it was delivered to its owner. He’d have to go over all the fine points of the best and be sure to mention a few quirks it seemed to have. From what he’d been told the owner was a kid but he was pretty mature and didn’t say much. So the commands he’d taught the beast were more noise and motion related rather than words.

He had thought to simply stay by the front yard and wait but his excitement got the better of him. So he was now out by the main gate of the family estate. It gave him a first hand look at who was making their way closer. And boy did it pay off. When he looked to the right he spotted his mount being led his way by another rider who he assumed was the tamer.

As far as travel went the snaptrotter didn’t seem to be too upset over it. Not even in the hotter climates of Oba. So he knew that this would be a good mount for the kid even before training had been done. As they got closer to their destination he noticed someone by the gate so he lifted his hand to wave at them.

The wave gave him confirmation that the best was meant for him. So he moved away from the gate so that he could unlatch and open it. Once he had it open he stood to the side so that the three of them could enter. A smile spread over his face as he stared at the beast he’d chosen for himself.

With the gate opened for them he rode his janarim on through and brought along the snaptrotter. “Hello.” He greeted the kid that was by the gate. “This must be for you?” He asked. If the kid was here to greet them then it had to be the excitement that had him waiting.

The greeting was met with a nod of his head, a small gesture to acknowledge that he heard the guy. The question required a bit more though. So Jiu actually lifted his gaze to meet Lynx’s. “Yes sir.” He remembered to use his manners as his mother had taught him.

“Have you thought up a name for him?” He moved the three of them so far in before he stopped and dismounted. The janarim he rode in on simply stayed in place, boredly looking around at everything. The snaptrotter kept walking until his snout butted up against Lynx’s leg.

He moved to shut the gate, ensuring that no beast got loose. Once it was latched he turned around to look at the others, though his gaze seemed to be more for his own beast than anything. The question of a name caused him to glance at Lynx. “Zale.” He’d thought over the name he’d give the beast for a few days before settling.

He smiled and nodded his head when he heard the name that had been chosen. “That’s a good one.” He reached over and patted the beast on the head. “Hear that boy? You are to be called Zale.” He gave the snaptrotter affection before motioning for the kid to come closer.

With the invite to get closer to the beast he did so, though he did feel a bit nervous. He made sure to keep his steps even and kept within sight of the snaptrotter. Last thing he wanted to do was spook the creature and cause some kind of upset.

When the boy got closer enough he held out the lead for him to take. “Here you go. Zale is officially all yours.” He grinned. He’d done enough training with the animal to know he wasn’t going to take off running with the switching of the reigns. Him and Iexa had actually made sure of that. They both had been dragged along before the snaptrotter had gotten the memo to stay still.

At first he only stared at the lead line. Was he ready for that? Of course! Jiu reached out and took the lead, his eyes instantly going to the beast. When nothing happened he seemed to light up even more. Though now he had so many questions about his mount. So he turned to Lynx. “...” Where did he start!?

He laughed when he saw the look on the boy’s face and the fact that he seemed to have some questions but at a loss as to where to begin. “Alright.. So Zale will respond the most to noise commands. If you want him to come closer you click your tongue. Like this.” He moved back a few steps and made the sound, prompting Zale to move with him until once again he hit Lynx’s leg with his snout.
