Shock Mark (15) : Thunderstorms are common this time of year, but what’s not common is the number of people reported being struck by lightning. Strangely, people are surviving with only minor, if any, injuries at all. Being struck can feel like a static shock, or can feel like a sudden flash of heat, and targets are left with a strange lightning mark across their body. Though the marks will fade, for their duration–up to a full week after being struck, you might notice that you are more prone to static shocking yourself or others, and you may notice electronics charging or overcharging and malfunctioning. The marks can take longer to fade at player discretion, or players may choose for them to leave pale scars, but otherwise there are no lasting effects.

The thunderstorms that were constantly hitting Destiny City had Rhysi pausing her search for Aeleas from time to time, and instead stopping to focus on the other matter at hand. Energy. The current, but apparently also historical? Issue plaguing Velencya. An issue that all life must take into consideration, consciously or not.

The living must has sustenance to remain alive, and further more to procreate. Thus moving beyond the concern of the individual and into the realm of the species, or collective society. Awareness of the important to conserve and reuse was simply part of Velencian life, it was so logical to live in such a way that perhaps the gravity of why wasn't so apparent. That it was a matter of conserve, or use up their world's resources and energy supply that much more quickly. That it was integral to extend an ever encroaching deadline.

Rhysi, for her part, was starting to question whether a naturally occurring source, such as a starseed, would truly be the answer to their world's end. After all, the starseed within their prince had failed. Who could say whether the next incarnation would fair better or longer? Their seemed to be a weakness inherent in starseeds, one well beyond their control if the only option for repair was something like the Cauldron. Distant, obscure, and ultimately beyond their reach and relying on...death and hope. One a surety, the other a daydream.

On the other hand, the core was dying. Their artificial stopgap was failing. Manufactured energy simply couldn't be equal to the naturally occurring magic phenomena of the star seed. Especially one as vital to a world as that of its Senshi. But manufactured could at least be improved. Advanced. And most importantly, in Rhysi's view, duplicated. Cores designed to be duplicated as many times as needed, replaced as needed, could absolutely ensure a more predictably stable future, one they had control over. But the resources, the knowledge...

Rhysi sighed loudly and angled the kite a little further to meet the wind, a large metal key swinging aloft on the string. She'd decided to study the energies found on Earth, going through its ages of advancement and efforts of its more powerful minds. Apparently the 30th century held some very exciting moments! But the odd thunderstorms were also extremely interesting, and could see why they inspired so many of Earth's inventors.

When the lighting did, inevitably strike, it hit her rather than the key. The likelihood of it was absolutely rare according to her readings, but here she was, buzzing and sparking with just one of the powerful energies supplied by earth's weather system. Literally shocked, she'd let go of the kite (she'd be mad about the loss later) and just sat to watch even more strike rain down on the city. No wonder. No wonder.

Eventually she would make it back to her room among the Vanguard, pouring her thoughts and considerations of the incident into her research notes with a manic energy that meant she was up for the next three days, more motivated than inconvenienced by the regular sparking of static whenever she reached to grab something.

It would be with great disappointment that Rhysi eventually found out that these storms were seasonal, and not a constant occurrence.
