One of the specific ways in which Gabi was a People Person went back to her baking. Yes, she liked to follow her own heart about things in her kitchen—but so often, her own heart told her to make things that her friends would enjoy. Whether that meant taking requests or simply paying attention to what her friends liked (or their dietary needs, or who kept kosher or halal, or whatever other things might have somehow presented An Issue) and trying to give them that, Gabi simply enjoyed making sure that the people she liked got to have baked goods specially made with them and their tastes in mind. All so she could let them know she cared about them (and maybe hear in return that they liked having her around).
All that and Demeter were what had brought Gabi out to The Farmer’s Daughter, today. If The Girl liked for her baked treats to stick with seasonally appropriate flavors, then come Hell, high water, or even an angel descending from the heavens to tell Gabi to leave Demeter alone already, Gabi was going to make sure that Demeter got her seasonally appropriate sweets. For summer, that meant strawberries.
She’d heard about The Farmer’s Daughter from a few different people. Some of the other students in the DCU theater department talked up how much they liked the selection at the little indie market, so Gabi had meant to come check it out for a while. What had finally sold her on it—what had finally provided the impetus for Gabi to fix her hair in a ponytail, to put on her cute little sparkly sneakers, her cute little shorts with the rainbow patch on one of the back-pockets, and her old shirt from the Meadowview Swim Team (with “Veni, Natavi, Vici” [“I came, I swam, I conquered”] written on the back), and to come check this market out—had been her “mostly cool but that responsible streak was gonna kill him someday” Mirror bro, Murikabushi.
On a recent jaunt with him into Mirrorspace, he’d mentioned that another Dark Mirror senshi owned The Farmer’s Daughter, and that Acubens-oneesan was really lovely, someone cool who Gabi-as-Lete could go to for help with anything. And Gabi would never argue with having more friends in their faction.
So, here Gabi found herself: prowling around the fresh produce, her gaze bouncing between the market itself (the internal architecture, the layout of the place, the decorations) and the fruit and vegetables that she’d actually come here for. After a few minutes, she finally settled down in front of the strawberries, all neatly arranged in their little containers. Hmmm, which of them would go the best in the strawberry-chocolate cupcakes she wanted to make for Demeter, though? All of them looked so good…… Picking The Exact Right Strawberries would take some careful consideration.
