As far as I know, "Tactics" isn't its own genre, but every game I've seen using the word has one thing in common : a grid-style, turn-based battle system involving building a party.

Final Fantasy Tactics was the first and maybe the most in-depth one I've played of that genre, but there are many others deserving a look at!

Feel free to share and talk about any other tactics game in this thread. I'll start with one:

Overland has you beginning in a post-apocalyptic world similar to fallout. The landscape has been ruined by the rise of nameless bug creatures that have spontaneously risen from the earth. The link goes to the steam page, but I have it on the Switch. On your trek to reach the west coast, fabled to be free of the creatures, you can recruit anyone from people to dogs.

It has a great creepy, ambient soundtrack. It's best experienced in-game, but I love final boss theme, One Future of Many. The tracks gradually becomes more intense as you proceed through the stage until you arrive on that one.
