The Reservoir (4) : The Destiny City Reservoir opened about two years ago and is an easy escape from the big city. It’s a five minute drive outside of the Eastern side of town and features clear water and sandy beaches--although, the sand here is notorious for squeaking when you step on it. It’s a hot spot for all fun summer activities, but it’s been in the news for mysterious reports of some strange, aquatic monster. Some accounts say they’ve spotted a twenty foot long, snake like creature capable of rearing a long neck high above the water. It’s hard to tell if the videos are doctored, but there are too many rumors to dismiss easily. Something strange might be lurking deep in the water. Or it’s just a hoax to get people out to the Reservoir!
But…Sometimes, people feel like something is grabbing their ankle, even if they are just wading in the shallow end. In the deeper parts of the water, it gets a little more intense: something has been said to grab onto ankles and pull. People have been warned about dangerous pranks, but so far no one has been caught. In the shallow end, anyone unfortunate enough to be targeted may feel themselves being knocked off their feet and tugged into the water; anyone in deep water may feel a firm grip on their ankle, tugging them lower and lower. Somehow, anyone it targets is freed--either by wriggling and fighting, or because someone intervenes and pulls the would-be victim up. No one has drowned in the lake. Yet. It's impossible to see who, or what, is doing this, but it usually gives up after one failed attempt. Usually.
While you may find yourself harassed by the supposed cryptid, or see something visibly odd in the distance, you cannot take any pictures of the creature. Who knows if you’re even being attacked by the cryptid–or just another youma?
Enjoying his time in the sun, which consisted mainly of lounging beneath a huge black beach umbrella to avoid said sun, Malory idly sipped his fruit juice (hand pressed by his dogwalker that morning) and gazed out over the crowds for anyone who looked particularly interesting. As his standards in other people were pretty modest, that meant quite a few people looked like lots and lots of fun. Especially today's lifeguards. The one closest to him looked so, well...grouchy. Angry with the world. Like someone who could really use a lot of hugs.
After considering it for awhile, Malory put away his book and his drink, slipped out of his flowing black beach cover, and strode out from under the umbrella in all his blinding paleness. A few moments later and he was slipping into the water, running his hands through it playfully, flipping little splashes here and there. Going a little deeper. And a little deeper still, until his feet no longer touched the bottom. A little further and he felt it was about time to...
"Help." he gave a winsome little cry, waving and arm up dramatically. No reaction from the shore. Maybe a little louder, "HELP! HELP!" Angry Lifeguard...actually looked a little familiar, now that Malory thought about it. Had he done this last year, too? Clearing his throat, ready to go full stage and maybe get someone on shore to shame the possibly-an-ex Angry Lifeguard into saving poor him, "HE-"
Something grabbed ahold of Malory's ankle with a sharp tug, dragging him both under and further out into the water. Struggling to the surface he tried calling again, "Help! I'm being-!"

Coco had recently been hanging out with another guardian cat watching the strange rainbow fireflies when she found herself at the water, odd place for most cats but she wasn't most cats. She was a guardian cat so she was unlike a normal cat. She passed grumpy humans and the strange looks of a cat on the beach. She got to the sound of the noise and looked around trying to see what was going on. She shoved her way to the front to see that the lifeguard hadn't moved yet. What was the human doing wasn't that other human drownding?
She frowned and watched for a moment since she wasn't sure what she could do just that moment there were numerous humans watching. So it wasn't like she could use her power while they were watching. Then again these humans always seemed to explain away what they saw in this city. It was a very weird city indeed. Rainbow fireflies that could shock you, strange puddles and so much more you never knew what you would find another the next corner. So for now Coco just waited to see what happened and how she could help. Perhaps if she just used a star shot the human would get free and save themselves.

On the shore a couple people near the lifeguard started talking about the guy in out in the water who looked to be in some kind of distress. "Oh like, don't worry. I know that guy, he's an actor. Super into method, y'know?"
"What kind of part needs him to drown?"
"Jaws, the musical."
"What? Here? We totally need to get tickets."
As the chatter continued, the lifeguard finally took off running. In a different direction, it seemed there was some kind of boating accident?
"Holy s**t!"
"Oh wow let's get this on tape!"
The crowd rushed after, ready to try and see who could dish the deets first on their socials. Which left the cat alone to watch the figure go under the water and just...not come up.
Malory was pretty sure it was a tentacle? Which maybe if drowning wasn't involved, he wouldn't mind too much? But this??? Seemed like it might actually kill him in a really unpleasant way.
Drowning victims, after all, rarely left beautiful corpses.

Coco had never heard anything so dumb in her life Jaws the musical perhaps that was a nega or a corrupt that knew that figure in the water and was waiting for them to die. She sighed and took the risk that no one would notice her shotting her star magic at the monster in the water in hopes it would let go of the figure. Then she would be able to help them, she couldn't help them get to shore she was far too small for that. She hide among the watchers hoping no one would notice where the blast had come from. She watched to see if the figure would be able to get out of the water now that she had helped get the creature to let go. At least that was what she hoped would happen.

Malory, briefly wondering if he'd survive longer as Hybris, or if that would just...excite whatever was holding him even more, was suddenly, blessedly, let go. He feebly pushed his way back to the surface, looking around to see if anything had happened and...no one. Not a single person was even on this side of the shore, let alone in the water nearby.
A sense of relief filled him. It wasn't that people wanted him to die horribly, it was just that he had bad timing.
Kicking his feet up to the surface to float on his back, Malory did a weary back stroke to the shore, and not even bothering with that once he felt the tide pulling him up to deposit him on the sand. Oh...it looked like there was actually someone over here. A nice little cat. Which he would greet, but for once in his life, Malory actually passed out for real.

Coco was relieved that they had gotten to shore and then that was washed away when they passed out as soon as they were on shore. She didn't wait to see if anyone would help since they hadn't helped before. She jumped on their chest and made meowing sounds. Pawing at their chest and playing the part of a cat. There were far too many people watching for her not to play the part of a cat. Still she couldn't just do nothing she had to try to help. It didn't matter to her if they were order or chaos a life was a life in her eyes. She looked them in their face and listened to see if they were breathing. She hoped they hadn't been hurt too badly by the creature.

Malory started coughing as the cat administered first aid, at first because she had hit just the right spot to knock the air at him and then because he couldn't hold back the choking laughter. The creature was being extremely cute.
Opening his eye fully, he weakly lifted a hand to give the cat an affectionate head rub, he wheezed, "Thank you kitty, you saved my life." Little did he know how right he was!
It didn't work out as planned, but at least he got a cute rescue, if not well-oiled and firmly muscled one. Letting his head drop back down with a groan, Malory considered how he'd get revenge later on the ex that was the grouchy lifeguard. It'd have to be something really, really fun. (For him!)

Coco didn't know what she had gotten herself into and she really didn't care, they were ok and whatever drama the humans had going on was no business of hers. She nodded her head and left the beach, stopping at a stand to get a star charm she deserved that at least for what she did.
