Being back in Matori was somewhat comforting since she’d met a good bit of decent people there. However, she wasn’t visiting for pleasure. She had business. As usual. She’d been kept rather busy lately. Not that she minded. She really needed to save up enough to buy her freedom from Inaza. Once she did that then she’d be good to go.

Once again he found himself walking around without his brothers. It was becoming a more and more common occurrence now that he was older. He didn’t mind it so much but it was an odd feeling sometimes. If he ran into someone that wanted to talk it was exhausting. And when he saw someone he knew he was always conflicted about whether or not to say hello. Like now.. He spotted a familiar shifter up ahead. While he wasn’t friends with the woman he knew who she was. His great memory never failed him. So he decided to give her a wave.

She wasn’t really paying much attention to those around her, though she noted where they were and if they were paying attention to her. So when one in front of her waved she blinked and focused on them. It took her a moment to recognize those features. She’d seen the kid a few times as he’d grown but never really interacted with him beyond a nod of the head or two. So it was odd to her that he would wave. Still, not wanting to be rude to him she waved back.

When she returned the wave Jiu felt less anxious. It meant he wasn’t left feeling awkward for greeting her first. “Been a while.” He called out to her. Based off his memory it had been a few years since he’d last seen her. So he was curious about why she was visiting now. Briefly he wondered if it was something to do with his family.

Her brows rose a bit when she heard him speak to her. If she recalled right then this was the triplet that wasn’t all that social. “It has. How have you been?” She couldn’t quite remember his name but she knew his face and personality. The triplets were hard to forget. And they were each so different.

He lifted his shoulders in answer, taking a few extra steps to close the space between them before he stopped to be social with her. Willingly. He looked over the shifter, trying to figure out the reason for her visit based on her appearance. But as usual she didn’t have anything that really stood out. “Something wrong?” He hoped she’d understand that he was asking if someone had found out where his mother and brothers were.

“Hm?” She hummed a bit as she paused to talk to him. “For you? No.” She did understand the boy’s meaning so she answered him honestly. “Don’t worry. You are fine.” She stressed the ‘you’ so he would know that her business had nothing to do with him or his family.

He seemed to catch on quickly because his body relaxed a bit. So the boy gave a nod of his head and hummed slightly to himself. Normally he’d have left things at that and been on his way. But Jiu liked the shifter. Sarnai had been a huge help to his parents when he and his brother’s had been born. So he wanted to help. “Anything I can do?”

She was taken off guard by the offer to help her out. And while she thought it was sweet of him to offer she didn’t think he could really do anything. So she shook her head at him. “No. Thanks anyways. Its a bit too much work for a young boy.” He wasn’t a baby anymore but he was still too young to be much help in her line of work. At least so long as he was untrained and she didn’t have the time to train him.

He didn’t know what it was the shifter did for work so he couldn’t really argue. All he knew was that she helped others according to his parents. But he ended up staring at her for a second. Based on her body structure she wasn’t very muscular so she didn’t do heavy lifting. “If you say so..”

She could see that he was eyeballing her but it wasn’t an uncomfortable sort. It was more like he was trying to figure something out that was just outside of his reach. She smiled and laughed a bit. “Don’t think too hard.” After shaking her head she looked around at those who walked past before returning her attention to him. “Besides, I don’t think your parents would like me dragging you off to work so young.”

She might have a point there. Jiu wasn’t sure about his dad but his mom would be a bit upset if he was put to work anywhere but the family ranch. At least there he knew what he was doing and the beasts were mostly friendly at that point. Plus if he needed to be looked at his Aunt was able to do some first aid. “You might be right.” He said thoughtfully.

“I know I’m right. And I would rather not fight your whole family if you got hurt.” That was not an understatement either. Sarnai had a feeling that if the boy got hurt while working with her then she’d have to deal with that entire clan and while they were nice they could also be a bit intimidating in numbers. Not to mention the boy’s mother was a dang good shot.

He paused and scrunched up his nose at her comment. It wouldn’t be his whole family. He didn’t think the younger ones would get in on that action. The adults might. They were pretty protective over the little ones. “My cousins would at least sit out.” He tried to point out to her so that she knew she was partly wrong.

“Oh, forgive me. Most of your family then. The dangerous ones.” Sar laughed at his correction. Still, it wasn’t a risk she was willing to take. “Besides, what good would it do me to help you out and then later make you do something that could get you hurt? I’d never have any business.” If it got around that her clients later got used and then injured she’d never have another client unless someone was desperate.
