Quote: The Lantern Festival (9) : Scientists have been hard at work trying to understand the strange, glowing qualities of the luminescent caterpillars found in the caves by the reservoir. The caterpillars still shrivel up if they are taken out of the caves but their glowing secretions have been processed into an organic paste that can withstand the outside world. The city is selling paper lanterns infused with various seeds. The glow paste is full of minerals to support healthy plant growth without risking damage to the environment; all lantern purchases come with a small packet of activating power that will heat the paste up enough to mimic the effects of a candle without the concerns of flammability. When the glow paste loses its heat, the lantern will return to the Earth and upon the first rain (or any contact with water) the paper will dissolve and the seeds may begin to grow. All proceeds from the lanterns are put right back into the community to support local conservation and environmental protection efforts. Hokkaido had regarded the return of the annual summer festivities with an ounce of caution, not wanting a repeat of the events of a couple years back with the fairy garden. Of course, she didn't want to be pranked in general, either, and thus she had been constantly nervous about anything Aomori or Lepus might offer her, in case they had anything that they might have been wanting to give to her that could play a nasty trick on her. Thus far, nothing had happened, but that didn't mean she would drop her guard... Someone was selling special paper lanterns, that apparently didn't use a candle to light up with; Hokkaido, having money to spend, purchased a couple, receiving a star charm in a color of her choice as a bonus for her purchase (she picked out a red one). Lanterns seemed safe enough, especially if she didn't need to risk setting things on fire, and apparently these were good for the environment, too? Hokkaido didn't really understand, but doing something for a good cause was harmless enough, and it was something Mama and Papa could be proud of her for, too.

Christabel remembered the Star Festival as a wonderful event last year. She saw flickering lights, which turned out to be fireflies. Then she investigated a cave with her Senshi friends. This festival had become something more for her, and this year she planned to make it something she wouldn't forget. Who knows, maybe this year she might even see something more interesting?
Her thoughts had gotten the best of her as she woke up to the sound of something selling special paper lanterns. Special paper lanterns? Hmm ... now any kind of light similar to Christmas lights? There was no way she could pass that up. She slowly approached the vendor. As soon as she got to the booth she opened her wallet and handed the vendor some money, then walked away with the lanterns in her hands. She couldn't help but smile, feeling a sense of joy and wonder she hadn't felt in a long time.
Not only did she have some pretty lanterns now, but she also was able to give back to the community. Her money supported local conservation and environmental protection efforts. Which she felt happy to do, and was a great bonus to her beautiful purchase.
Just as she was about to walk away the vendor grabbed her hand and gave her a Crimson Star Charm. "Wow this is so pretty! Thank you very much," she said happily with a slight bow. She smiled and thanked the vendor again before looking at the lanterns in her hands again. She examined them this time though and that was when she noticed some sort of package inside. "I wonder what this is," she said aloud not even worrying if someone nearby heard her.

Hokkaido jumped at the sound of another’s voice, not having realized that she wasn’t alone. When she felt the presence of another chibi senshi, she relaxed slightly, because it at least it wasn’t a terrible monster out to make a meal out of her, but then grew nervous again because she hadn’t actually met a great deal of chibi senshi that weren’t her twin, Lepus (who was no longer a chibi), or Charybdis (who… probably wasn’t a chibi anymore either). Glancing around, Hokkaido quickly discerned that the chibi she was in the presence of was none of the above, making it someone she had never met before. Well, hopefully it was okay to talk to them? She hoped this chibi wasn’t mean or a prankster… “Um… did, did you buy some lanterns too?” the green-haired child asked timidly.

Christabel heard someone speak and immediately turned her attention towards them. At first she wasn't sure if they were talking to her, but then she felt something. She felt what felt like an order presence, which made her feel kind of excited. Since she knew she was in the presence of an ally. She felt a sense of assurance that she was in good company and that she was safe.
She smiled kindly at the senshi and her super peppy side came out. "Well hello there! I'm Christabel. It's nice to meet you! And yes I did! Did you? I mean they were so pretty! I couldn't not get some."
As she finished her sentence she remembered her hand still had something in it. "Oh by the way. I saw this package inside, and I'm not sure what it's supposed to be for. Do you know?" She opened her hand to reveal a small, square package.

“Um, yes!” Hokkaido said, holding up the lantern kits she had bought for Christabel to see, “I wanted… I wanted to do something good, and they said they’re safe for the environment, so…” Papa and Mama were rich people, or at least had a lot of money, but unlike those evil rich people on the television, they cared a lot about the planet, so Hokkaido knew they would be give her their full approval if they knew what she was spending her money on. Actually, it wasn't as if she couldn't tell them about this! She just would have to change some details, and it would be okay, though she disliked lying... "Um... I'm Hokkaido... it's nice to meet you," the green-haired child managed to say, "I think the packets are um, I think they're for heating up the glow paste..." She didn't know exactly how it worked, but assumed you activated it something akin to those hand warming packets she and Aomori would use in the winter.

As she smiled at the thought that someone else had also purchased some lanterns, Christabel said, "That's awesome, and it donates to a worthy cause for sure." She knew her parents wouldn't really mind what she had contributed to a worthy cause. They were away a lot, but when they were home they always donated as often as they could. She was sure her contribution would make a difference. She was proud of herself for choosing to give back to society and getting the lanterns was a plus! She was grateful for the opportunity to be able to do something small but meaningful. She couldn't wait to show her parents what she had done when they came home. She was sure they would be proud of her.
"It's nice to meet you, Hokkaido! That is such a cute name!" she said with a cheery smile. She was happy they introduced themselves first, since sometimes she forgets to introduce herself due to excitement. "Oooh that makes so much sense! Would you like to try the lanterns out with me? I think it's almost dark enough." she said as she examined the packet in her hand. She was so excited to see the lantern up in the air, and her enthusiasm was infectious.nyamomask Sorry that took a bit, my daughter had her tonsils taken out and it's been rough. x3

"Um, yes please...!" Hokkaido said, relieved that the other girl was friendly so far, "I-I'd really like that." It was good to make friends her age! Especially ones that were senshi such as herself. Her sister had Lepus, of course, but Lepus was far older than the two of them... and also full of bad ideas. Taking out the packet from her own lantern, Hokkaido examined it, just to be certain she had the right idea. If these were indeed like those hand warmer packets as she thought they were, then... "I think... I think you take the packet out of the packaging, and then you shake it up... t-that should get it to start heating up," she instructed, hoping she was correct in her assumptions.

She was thrilled that the other girl was interested in trying lanterns with her. She felt like she was making a new friend. Christabel smiled brightly after hearing her answer, and followed her lead with the package in her hand.
"Oh okay. Got it - thank you," she said as she shook the package as hard as she could, and rubbed it in her hand. The package quickly heated up and her lantern rose into the atmosphere.
"Wow! It worked! Look at that!" she exclaimed with excitement as she watched the lantern rise into the air. She watched as the lantern lit up the sky, illuminating the darkness with its bright, orange light. She felt proud of her accomplishment and was filled with joy. She smiled to herself, feeling that her hard work had paid off.
She then turned to her new friend waiting to see if hers began to rise as well. Since she wanted to enjoy this moment together with them and their new lanterns.

Hokkaido watched Christabel activate her lantern, and did the same, being relieved to find that she was correct in how to activate the warming agent, and also happy to see the lanterns float up into the air, the lanterns she bought joining Christabel's shortly after the other chibi lit up hers. Safe activities like this were nice, and she wished they could happen more often, instead of, well... Nearly being eaten by youma or chased by youma or stumbling into a cave filled with bugs or... or... "They're so pretty..." Hokkaido said, and then, because she realized something she wanted to ask of her new friend, "U-Um, if it's okay... c-can I add you on my phone? So we... so we can maybe meet again..." And do more safe fun activities, hopefully.

Christabel watched their lanterns together and the sight was beautiful! She was amazed at how the papers were able to float so effortlessly in the sky.
Plus there was nothing she had to fight or worms that she would run into with color that lasts for days. So she was grateful to have this peaceful moment and being able to share it with a new friend was even better.
"I agree they are absolutely beautiful,"She said as she heard the question and nodded happily. "Definitely, I'd love that so much," she said as she pulled out her own phone and got ready to exchange numbers.
She was excited that not only did she get to launch lanterns into the sky, but she had made a wonderful new friend. As they exchanged numbers, she smiled, knowing this wasn't the end of their friendship. Who knew what wonderful adventures lay ahead? The possibilities are endless.

Hokkaido added Christabel to her contacts on her senshi phone, glad to have someone she could possibly ask to patrol with sometimes, hopefully, before returning her attention to watching the lanterns. It was a nice and calming activity, and she was still really happy that it all worked out and they were doing a good thing for the environment and all that. She stayed like that for awhile, just enjoying the peace, until after the lanterns had floated high up into the sky, far away out of sight. It was getting late, and while Hokkaido didn't want to leave, she knew she had to go back and get Aomori, so they could return home to Mama and Papa before they worried about the twins being out too late. It would be rude to leave without a word, though, and so Hokkaido turned to face Christabel again, so she could say her farewells. "Um... thank you for lighting lanterns with me," the chibi said, because she was really grateful for the companionship, "I need to go home now, b-but I hope we can see each other again sometime... I-I'm happy we could become friends!"

Christabel was so happy to have another friend. After adding her and watching the lanterns finish she was at peace. She was so happy that the lantern lighting had gone so wonderfully!
As she heard Hokkaido say she had to go home, she looked at the time, and agreed. It was about time for her to head home as well. Since her house keeper would be worried if she arrived to much later.
So she smiled and waved, "Of course! I'm glad we could light the lanterns together and become friends! It was so much fun! Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you again next time!" She really did look forward to seeing the chibi again. She was not only sweet, but she was sure they could have just as much fun next time they met up.
With that thought in her head she headed home with a smile. She couldn't wait to see her new friend again. But until then she needed to get some much needed rest.
nyamomask Sounds good. <3 Fin! =) Thanks for the wonderful rp!
