Quote:
Insidious Insects (18 ) : In the first week of July, the area around the tree is just buzzing. The call of the cicadas is loud and droning, and it’s constant. You start to hear it all over town, too. All sorts of insects seem attracted to the strange pods, and it’s not uncommon to find nearly any species curiously investigating. If you listen closely, you notice something else strange–it’s not just the bugs that you see making the familiar call of the cicada. It seems like it’s coming from inside the pods, too. Any pod that wasn’t leaking sap suddenly begins to snap open, and giant cicadas, crawl out. Their full wingspan can reach up to a foot and they’re hungry–and angry. It seems like the pods that were leaking sap were slowly rotting, but the ones that didn’t leak were being eaten from the inside out–and now that the cicadas have run out of food, they’re out for anything they can find. Though there are several notable differences between these insects and the common cicadas, their low, chirping wail makes them easy to find–as well as the fact that they spit acid. These bugs are incredibly hostile and will attack indiscriminately, powered or unpowered, human or alien, day or night. They have a protective shell that makes them easy to crush but they’re hardly the most menacing foe you’ve faced–but if they reproduce, you could be in some real trouble. Better to crush them now before they become Destiny City’s next invasive species…
Note: These creatures are a violent alien species that are aggressive and eager to destroy. They will attack everyone and everything within sight. The insects can fly, spit acid, and will try to burrow into the ground to hide. They are very fast and difficult to see. This RP can be used as a battle requirement for a character, separate from your ‘one youma battle’ per stage if there are two powered characters involved; you cannot write a solo and count this as a battle, and your character must be powered and interacting with another player’s powered character for it to count. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

If there was anything Morishita disliked more than powering up in general, it was the part where she was expected to power up and fight. Not because she was a pacifist, mind you- she couldn't care less about who was fighting who, as long as it didn't involve her- but because she would rather be in bed. There were plenty of other senshi running around Destiny City, so why did it have to be her that had to do the dirty work? Couldn't someone else do it?

These were the thoughts currently running through one Sailor Morishita's head today, as she stared down a bunch of giant acid-spitting cicadas, having had the misfortune of passing by the tree when they were first starting to make their appearance. Ideally, she'd leave it to someone else to handle, because the last thing she wanted was to ruin her nice outfit, but quite unfortunately for the teen, a certain fluffy Mauvian was with her, and a certain fluffy Mauvian was surely to nag her into Doing Something about this... mess.

"You can't be serious," Morishita finally said, scowling at the insects, "Show me in that magical senshi contract of yours where it says I have to do this."

"Oh, I am indeed serious, Morishita. First... I did give you a handbook with the rules. Secondly, I awakened you! Not form a contract with you! I'm not nefarious," Rune sighed a bit. This could be a bit difficult...

Runelucia knew Morishita could be a handful whenever it comes to engaging with activities requiring effort, but hey, this time, it's important! These foes aren't to be left alone.

Good intentions aside, Runelucia believed that Morishita could net herself with much-needed growth, a wealth of experience, and meaningful self-development any senshi worth her sphere would find beneficial in the long run. The only issue (or well, several issues) is that Morishita is inclined to leave the resolution work to someone else who does indeed care for all of the above. Regardless, it's now time for Morishita to shine.

"Let me explain again," Rune tried to reason once more, pointedly staring at Morishita, "these insects are very hostile. If they aren't quelled, even they won't let you sleep peacefully at night. If anything, they could very well eat your face or something."

'Eat your face' was such a weak reason, childish even, and Morishita dragged a hand across her face in exasperation. 'Won't let you sleep at night' was more reasonable, and it was true that the cicadas were annoyingly noisy to the teen who wanted nothing more than to laze around all day. Still, there was still a brief moment in which the teen considered offering up Rune to the cicadas as a peace offering, to permanently buy the Mauvian's silence while she booked it on out of there.

Unfortunately, the benefits of having Rune around outweighed the cons, and that idea was quickly vetoed before it came to be more than just a fleeting thought.

"Okay, then show me in the handbook where it says this is my job," Morishita said, waving her phone in the kitten's face, "Because I don't see anything in there that says I have to deal with giant insects."

A cicada attacked the duo, disinterested in the dog and pony show going on; Morishita groaned, swatting at it, equally disinterested in wanting to deal with this. "Ughhhh, there's like, thousands of senshi out there, and you're telling me that none of them are available, at this time of year, at this time of day, at this very part of the town? Claws of the Mountain Cat."

Rune owed her so much for this, for forcing her into using her magic to save their hides (and her right to an uninterrupted nap).

"It's not that specific, 'cause I'm sure you wouldn't have accepted your role then... but the handbook does outline your duty to serve and protect for the sake of the Order's principles, which is to defeat-," Rune attempted to explain while batting away some unruly noisy and clearly vicious cicadas with her paws. This is difficult and unpleasant.

Moreover, how dreadfully rude of these insects (!!), to interrupt Rune's attempt to be a wise mentor to Morishita like that! Moreover, Morishita made a good point- one that she could not answer because, for the time being, both of them were being engulfed by even more irritating insects.

Rune finally continued after successfully batting down a cicada that bothered her incessantly, "Okay so... I could try detecting other fellow senshi, but based on what I can see right now, none are nearby us! How terribly inconvenient..."

"Yeah, how convenient and inconvenient that no one is around to help us out right now," Morishita grumbled, as she continued to attempt to fend off the angry cicadas. It was almost too convenient, to the point of being comical, if it happened to anyone other than her, and it was a pity that there wasn't any direct one person in charge of handling all the senshi in Destiny City, or she'd write a very strongly worded letter to them. As it was, they were getting quickly outnumbered, as it was one loser senshi who hardly ever powered up, plus one fluffy kitten who wasn't that much of a fighter either... vs a bunch of giant bugs who were looking for their next meal. Morishita managed to take out a couple of them, but she wasn't interested in spending all night squishing bugs, and she had limited uses left of her magic, too.

Escape seemed like the best option, even if Rune wouldn't agree with it, but again. Giant cicadas that spit acid, and she was expected to fight them? Nah.

While the intrusive thoughts of leaving Rune to fend for herself popped up once more, Morishita was about to scoop up the Mauvian and make a run for it... when a certain Cosmos Squire wrapped in a starry iridescent light beat her to it. The sudden presence of another Order signature when there had previously been none surprised the teen senshi, but also made her even more grumpy, because it wasn't hard to figure out who the squire was. Although the light made it hard to tell who it was at first, there were only a handful of people that would charge in like this just to rescue the cat, and only one of them was a Cosmos squire...

(Of course, due to the nature of the magic being 'anyone looking at it finds the person the magic is protecting to be unreachable', that meant Morishita had quite some trouble giving pursuit after the two when they left her behind.)

Aogashima hadn't actually intended on checking out the now cicada-infested tree, having actually been out and about for other unrelated reasons (re: idol practice), but she was sure glad she happened to pass by now! To speak about 'right place, right time', the squire had chanced upon a battle going on being fought by two people she was acquainted with, one of them of the furry four-legged sort, and a bunch of giant insects, that seemed like it wasn't going too hot. It didn't seem like the odds were in their favor, and while Aogashima could have probably whacked a couple with her planisphere (not that it was meant to be used for bug squishing, probably, or that was at least what her sister Hakodate might have said in this situation), there were other, more important priorities at hand here. That 'furry' acquaintance, for one, happened to be none other than Aogashima's best friend in all of Destiny City, and fellow idol enthusiast, the Mauvian Runelucia! Okay, yes, there was also Rune's bonded senshi present with her, but Aogashima wasn't focused on her.

Things didn't look like they were going to get any better, and it looked more dicey by the second. Not wanting to see her fluffy friend become food for the insects, Aogashima made a quick decision, and raised the chain holding her planisphere, spinning the weapon and producing a bright, starry light, using her magic to aid in her plan. Rushing in, she quickly scooped up Rune, using her magic to buy time for a (hopefully) quick getaway, to put enough distance between them and the bugs to get to safety, though she could teleport them to her Wonder if needed, maybe.

"I'm glad I got here just in time! Are you okay, Rune?" the squire asked, checking the kitten over for anywhere she might be hurt, and completely oblivious to the senshi they had left behind, who was surely glaring daggers at the two as she tried to catch up.

“Wow, the timing of your entrance was superb!” Rune’s eyes twinkled, grinning widely. Being rescued by a familiar Order squire was enough to enliven her previously dire mood. The amount of care and thoughtfulness this squire had towards herself felt extremely humbling. If only a certain someone could model after her more… speaking of that, a small part of her seems to be forgetting something… just who was she forgetting? Oh… oh.

“Um… I believe we forgot to bring Morishita along?” Rune asked nervously while darting her gaze back and forth between the eager and vivacious squire and the quickly shrinking silhouette of a clearly annoyed and irritated Morishita. It was clear that Morishita possessed a lot of grit, but Rune wasn’t confident that she could resolve this dilemma alone. “So, Morishita… she was next to me, ready to fend against those nefarious and nasty bugs! Augh.. just thinking about them makes me feel queasy…”

Rune breathed steadily as she gripped Aogashima more ardently. “Soo… would it be possible if we could… give Morishita a hand? Something that would help her ditch those insects? No need to swat them away now- we clearly need to make a tactical retreat and reassess the situation-”

She wasn’t sure if Aogashima would comply and she was more unsure about Morishita’s ability to make a clean escape, so it would be highly beneficial if both of them and the cat herself could get away from the scene together.

"Huh?"

Aogashima blinked, confused; had there been someone else with them? She had been so focused on getting Rune out of there that she had forgotten about if there was anyone else around, and what was that one quote? If you forgot about it, it probably wasn't important? Ah, hm, yes, if she racked her brain enough, there had been... oh yeah! Morishita was there, huh? Whoops! That was really embarrassing of her, but then also, Morishita was a senshi, so, uh... well, Hakodate said senshi tended to be strong, and Rune always talked about how she was trying to get Morishita to be a respectable senshi, or something...

"Oh, sure, we can go back for her- oh, there she is!" Aogashima said after her thought process finally caught up to reality, but by that point in time, her magic had long since worn off, and Morishita had caught up to the two of them, looking none too happy with them. "Do you think... she's mad at us?"

"Both of you suck," was all Morishita could manage out, among the other things she wanted to say.

"Oh, Morishita... I'm so sorry about disappearing so suddenly! It happened all of a sudden, and Aogashima had the best of intentions! Still, I am glad to see you out and well and far, far away from those horrid bugs," Rune laughed a bit nervously, feeling relieved and bad at the same time.

She could tell that Morishita would require a lot of placating as whatever happened was far from pleasant. As both senshi departed further away from the source of trouble, Rune pondered on what kind of peace offering would Morishita gladly accept. Apart from rest, perhaps Rune could offer to go to the park to practice outside for an hour later in the day...? That sounds like a good idea- After all, Morishita definitely would gladly appreciate having some time to nap in private.

I believe this is the end. o/
