Quote:
It was already late in the evening but the merchant seemed unfazed by the passing of time. He sat, poised and elegant, watching the world around him. He didn’t seem bored, even as he leaned forward and laced his fingers atop the table; below it, he kept his toe tapping to some silent tune in his head. He was tall, by human standards, though while sitting down he didn’t seem particularly threatening. If you didn’t look at his face.

He had graceful features--sharp and refined. His chin and nose tapered to a point, giving him an air of sophistication, but that, combined with his slitted eyes and pointed teeth, there was something undeniably predatory about him. He watched with a hungry gaze and a mischievous, nearly sinister smile. His ears were pointed and were prominent despite being tucked behind his vibrant, multi-colored hair. The most intrusive feature that indicated there was something not human about him were the curling horns protruding from his temples and the oil-slick black scales that brushed his cheeks and forehead. He was well dressed, in a fashion obviously otherworldly, and seemed to enjoy dressing himself up in glistening gemstones.

His table was somehow both simple and overwhelming; it was draped in a dark purple tablecloth, with extravagant embroidery in different designs. Scattered neatly atop the table was an array of items that seemed to carry some magical weight to them.

He did not seem intimidated in the slightest and, upon noticing that the barrier surrounding him rippled when his visitor entered, he smiled.

He did not rise to meet them nor adjust his position in the slightest. He followed them with his fierce eyes and greeted, in a silky voice, “Welcome.”

What was this feeling that almost felt cajoling in nature? Irenaea had not been out for very long this evening when the sensation that something or someone had been calling to her to follow. Almost sheepishly had she allowed herself to become distracted by the insistent nature of the siren call before giving up on what it was she was meant to really be doing. Instead of gathering energy for the Court Irenaea instead tucked away her mirror shard to follow the beckoning, alluring sensation to a rising hilltop that seemed almost barren in nature. As she took note of the sign Irenaea's lips twitched in a unusual grimace. Whomever this was wanted those ... things. Well she certainly had no use for them that was for sure. Perhaps she could even get rid of the one that had caused a nasty looking skin rash. Was that what was sought?

Well even if it wasn't Irenaea thought carefully of what else she could offer in trade before stepping through the barrier to gaze upon the one that greeted her with a smile, yet there was a fierceness to the eyes that followed her every movement and Irenaea brushed aside the veil that covered her eyes in order to make direct eye contact, "I suppose "welcome" is an adequate greeting. Sort of direct and to the point. Though I'm willing to admit, I'm a little confused about who you are."

“Confused? Oh, my dear, it’s only because I haven’t introduced myself.”

He smiled, and politely and keenly as ever, and stuck out his hand to shake. “I’ll trade my name for yours? I’m Almadel. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. I’m rather fond of the Dark Mirror Court, I think you’re all very fascinating. I’ve only ever found you on Earth, and I am so fond of the rare and unique. But then, Earth has so much of that. I’m always pleasantly surprised.

“I mean it when I say ‘welcome’. Have you come to make a trade today?”

He gestured to the wares across his table. “I’ve brought my best. I trust you saw the sign out front? Of course, I’m open to any offers.”

Irenaea sounded out the name that had been provided to her from the stranger before shaking her head slowly. If he'd given his name then could he still be considered a stranger? The answer, unfortunately was yes. Instead of dwelling too much on that one little fact Irenaea moved closer to the tables to examine some of the various items that were there before she backed up for a minute. Her gaze was level and she maybe gave the man a mischievous grin before she spoke, "I think that some could find that kind of talk ... unnerving. Just with saying how you've only found the Dark Mirror on Earth and following it up with how you are fond of the rare and unique," and here Irenaea's smile grew more genuine before she continued, "It's nice to meet you Almadel. Like this I'm known as Irenaea, the senshi of widow spiders."

Now that she had introduced herself the black-clad figure slowly cast her gaze from left to right over the assembled tables before glancing back to Almadel. The items she casually observed did look like they were all unique in nature and she stopping eyeing everything before nodding, "I have something that might interest you according to the sign over yonder," a thumb was jerked over her shoulder to indicate the barrier that she had passed through earlier. "Perhaps we can work something out as an exchange?"

There was no indication that she really had her eye on anything yet, but once Almadel was open to an offer, maybe then she could peruse the items further. Best not to get one's hopes up and all that.

Almadel laughed and nodded. “Oh, after my own heart. Yes, I’d love to work out something as an exchange. You don’t think me unnerving, do you?”

He smiled, sweetly enough, but it put his shiny, sharp teeth on display. “I’d never wish to make you uncomfortable. It was a compliment, I assure you. If you’ve brought me what I’ve asked,” he gestured to the spread on the table before him, “Take your pick. I’m feeling very generous. But then, Earth always puts me in a good mood.”

He smiled again at her. “Widow Spiders, such an intimidating sphere for such a lovely lady. Tell me, are you in the market for anything in particular? I’ve got just about everything.”

He looked across the table, and though there were plenty of gorgeous things to choose from, he seemed to have settled on one in particular. It was a simple compact–compared to some of the gaudy trinkets next to it, but there was a distinct design inlaid upon the lid. He brushed his thumb over it and then looked at the matching spider on her uniform.

He set it back down in front of him, but not before angling it perfectly so she could see.

Did Irenaea find this Almadel unnerving? Probably not in the slightest but it was ever so wicked of her to keep the man guessing, wasn't it? In the meantime her gaze once more traversed the length of the tables that were set up. What would happen if this seller of wares didn't think that the two pods that she had managed to grab were worthy enough to trade for? Well if that was the case then maybe she'd try to sweeten a deal. As it was Irenaea's attention was brought back to Almadel as he continued to speak and she had to laugh at his statement, "I'm glad that Earth puts you in a good mood. It's makes it so much more pleasant to deal with someone that's happy rather than one who might be on the "not having a good day" train.

When it came to her sphere Irenaea wasn't sure if the correct word to use was intimidating or not. She had done some research on the topic since being awakened but more just casual browsing then anything hardcore. The genus was rather interesting though. She summoned her prizes from her subspace pocket before gently placing them on the table. One was still in the plastic ziplock bag that Hela had allowed her to use when they'd plucked these pods directly from the tree. The other was a little too large to have been put into a bag and thus she'd just hoped that the object hadn't been damaged at all being somewhere that it didn't really belong.

As Almadel scanned his own wares and moved picked up what looked like a compact, simple in design, Irenaea's gaze locked on the movement. As the man cleared off the top and set it back down she caught the briefest glimpses of what looked like a spider on the lid. Moving in closer she gently picked up the compact and ran her fingers over the design on the top before questing fingers fumbled with a latch that was hidden on the side.

"How did I know that was there?"

There was a faint emanation from the item that she almost recognized and she cradled the compact close to her chest for a moment before moving the item to sit back on the table before glancing to the trader. "If these are acceptable items to trade with, I'd be happy if I could take this item away with me when I depart."

Her gaze shifted to the pods that she'd brought before returning her gaze to lock onto Almadel's own. Almost perceptively did she will the man to want to part with the compact. There was something about it, that felt all too familiar and yet, she herself had never seen it before.

Almadel was visibly pleased when she seemed to find the latch without any difficulty, and a light in his eyes flashed with great excitement. He was as satisfied to make a trade as he was to have selected an item she was interested in.

But then, he wouldn’t have been a very good salesman if he didn’t have at least a little intuition when it came to pleasing people.

“For you? I’ll make that deal. It’s more than just a pretty trinket, it’s got a bit of function, too. Beyond the obvious. Though, I couldn’t quite make it work, but I’ve learned with these things that sometimes they’ll only work with the right person. I have quite the suspicion that you’ll have better luck than I do. It produces a very fine silk–very strong. It would be good at keeping something tethered, but I can’t get it to stick to anyone or anything. If you can figure it all out, you’ll have to come back and show me. Deal?”

tefla
This compact can be used to produce a strong spider silk capable of magically tethering an inanimate object once per day. The item can only be as large as something she could naturally hold, and it cannot be used in battle situations.

Irenaea had flicked the catch open once more as Almadel began to explain about what the compact was capable of doing but was intrigued when he said he couldn't figure out how exactly it went about working. Peering at it more closely would have to wait until she was able to spend a little bit more time simply testing with the silk inside.

Looking up and glad that Almadel was as happy with the trade items that she had brought as bargaining she gave the merchant a saucy grin before chuckling softly, "I think I like that idea of a deal. As soon as I find out why this won't work for you, I'll let you know. I'll leave these," and here Irenaea indicated the harvested pods, "with you."

She was curious about the merchant and when he'd be leaving. Would she get a chance to revisit if she found out how to make her new compact work properly? Or would he be gone by the time that happened?

"Is there a period of time that you are staying around Almadel? If we don't run into each other again, is there someway to stay in touch?"

The Space Cauldron
thank you for this rp. Irenaea is very pleased with her new item. She's also very curious about when he'd be back.

Almadel hummed thoughtfully. “Well, I usually stay through Star Festival. Afterwards, I pack up and head to the other side of the galaxy for a bit. I’ll be here for a few weeks yet, but. Afterwards it’s a bit up in the air. Sometimes I like to stop by here and there. You know how it is, you get a taste for something and Earth has some of the best food around. Plus, the company’s nice. You all treat me so nicely here.”

He sighed contentedly, and his tail twitched in what seemed to be genuine fondness.

“I’ll tell you what, though. I’ll give you my card.”

Without a delay, he flicked his wrist and produced a simple, glossy, black card. He offered it to her between two fingers. On one side, an ornate symbol that looked incredibly similar to a fingerprint. It was printed with a red, holographic ink.

On the other side, in opalescent ink, a single word in elegant script: Almadel.

"I know it’s a bit dramatic, but I really don’t like spam calls. If you ever need to reach me, all it takes is a drop of blood," he said, nodding to the card. "...Press your finger into it. I should really upgrade, but it’s just that so many people are so good at wasting my time. I’ve got a lot of places to be. You can speak into it, I’ll get the message and can pop on by. Otherwise, I only know that I’ll be here next year. Good weather, assuming.”
