Kechi 1
It was finally time, they had left port and were catching wind, what adventures lurked out there? She made sure that there were crewmembers on deck with spyglasses, they were actively protecting Theriar's fishing fleet of two, though he planned to expand somewhat now that he had them as insurance. She was all for it, she preferred to be busy. It would probably be a rare occurance to catch pirates going after a fishing vessel, but they could raid other pirate ship that were in their waters, all was fair at love war and sea scuttling, not that she would ever do that to Sea Wasp, she would die first.

She strode down deck to check on her newest recruit.

"Daspien, how goes it?"

Daspien was still getting used to the work, but found it was quite easy to get into the swing of things. Having worked on merchant ships for years, he clearly had the experience and knowledge around a deck, and made use of such knowledge by getting his hands dirty. The movements were familiar, a reassuring feeling to the decision he had made. While this was a trial of sorts, so far he found himself enjoying the freedom of a ship without a path to follow. At least one that was paved.

It came to no surprise when the outgoing captain came to check on him, in fact he was anticipating such things as he worked to earn his way.

He grinned as he placed his rope down where he was working with it, turning and brushing some sweat off his brow.

"Ay, Captain. Things are going well. The ship is run well. It's been easy to step in and get to work."

She was more than pleased at his obvious comfort on deck, she had had quite a few newbies to the craft and it always took the inexperienced a bit longer to adjust to the strange way of life upon a ship, with its paradox of living closely with others but also being isolated from other people while at sea. Your crew was your everything for days and sometimes tempers flared under strain.

She grinned at the compliment. "Thank you, I do try, but I need more experience as well, my goal is to be a beautiful old salt." She winked and turned to gaze at the horizon. "Isn't it glorious? The way it moves and flows, the sea has its own spirit." She likely would not spew such spiritual delights to anyone else but she had a feeling that Daspien of all people would understand her.

He looked out across the horizon as well, his golden eyes contemplative as he let himself sink into the age-old meditation most took when looking out at sea. First it was an interpretation of the sea, how she was faring and if any storms were brewing on the horizon. Then it was a softening of the shoulders as the gentle sway of the ship rocked relaxation. Finally, the deep breaths of salty air and the soft sounds of the sea slapping against the wood of the ship. Oh yes, this was a familiar meditation that would not change no matter the ship he sailed upon.

"I hear that the Kahkinans who live in the ocean believe the sea is some sort of goddess. I imagine it'd be easy to follow that religion with all I've seen."

Kechiri 3
"I can too. I've been on it enough that I can totally see what they mean." She loved the sea and appreciated those who saw what she saw. Someday her eye may turn a bit more inland but for the moment the water was all that mattered to her. Life had a strange way of tossing you about like so much jetsom on the waves. It felt good to sit back and contemplate it sometimes and there was a lot of time on the sea for such contemplations. She liked that there was someone on board that she could have these deep sort of conversations with, you didn't always get that with the general seafaring populace but it was always like finding unexpected treasure in your socks when you did.

"I wish I could breath under water like they do," she said wistfully.

He wondered if they might end up with a Kahikinan on the ship. It seemed like more were making their way mainland, at least compared to when they were first introduced. It would be interesting to have more in-depth interactions to learn about their race, culture, and what they thought of the sailor life. Did they even have sailors over on the island. He'd never had the chance to really explore such a thought.

Turning, he blinked at Kechiri for a moment.

"I think there's some magic. Maybe we could find a mage - someone who can give waterbreathing for shipwrecks and some wind to travel when it's a calm day?"

Kechiri 4
"You know thats a really good idea. I will look into it for us." It should be decently easy to find one, what it came down to was how much they would want to be paid. "My brother is a mage but..not that kind of mage." He was more a murky depths sort of person and his magic might be a bit more sinky sinky than the usefulness that Daspien was describing. "I think my Grandma might know a few of the kind you speak of." Grandma Nin had helped a few people find their way to their favorite path, Kechiri by contrast had known what she wanted to do herself. It had been a gift as she had risen and had a great sailing teacher. She was more confident now in her role as captain, it had taken years to get here but she was happy with how she was progressing so far. There was always room for improvement of herself and as Daspien had pointed out to the make up of her crew.
"I'm quite glad you signed on with us." She hoped he would be safe for the journey but on her ship nothing was guaranteed as they were a fighting vessel. Hopfully no on messed with them.

He smiled at the recognition, nodding once before looking back out at the sea.

"I don't really know of any. We had one a short time on the merchant ship, but it was mostly a way for him to pay for passage. I don't think many mages desire the sea life." Scratching his head at the thought, he couldn't really imagine why. But then again, being a merchant was boring for him as well. He desired a quick getaway and as a result joined this crew instead. Maybe the temptation of freedom might bring one or two in. That and treasure.

Turning to look at Kechiri as she spoke of her family he nodded and smiled a bit warmer.

"I don't regret it. Already the freedom feels much better than when I was working on the other ships."

"Glad you feel that way." He was certainly a pleasant member to have on board with them. She spotted other crew members coiling rope the wrong way. "Hold on a moment." She moved to speak with the errant crew and fixed the problem before drifting back. "If they coil that the wrong way we could have casualties in a disaster, rope and wood and wind..the only thing we have to combat the power of the sea. Have you seen some of the rocks that have been weathered? Great things, holey now like cheese because of the water and its force over time. Always makes me feel right humble. We are not even a flea on the ocean's back."

Daspien watched silently as Kechiri moved away to address the concern with her crew, his eyes studied the way she communicated, both verbally and non-verbally, and evaluated how she managed the individuals. As she came back, he listrened to her words and considered how she precieved the situation. Much like she assessed him, he would asses her, confirm if she was the best choice in this moment of his live.

"Aye, I haven't had the chance to go below sea, but I do enjoy a good walk on the beach. The shells and stones tell their own tales." He said with a grin, "Humility round these seas is a valuable trait indeed."
