Zerynthia cradled her hand close to her chest as she walked. She was old enough now that she could spend time with herself during the day and normally Zeri tried to take full advantage of that. Things that her family - namely her parents - would frown upon were fully explored during those tender hours and sometimes...well, sometimes things went wrong.
Normally the young hybrid liked to adorn herself with as much glitz and glam as she could 'borrow' from the other women of her household, but not today. Today she was dressed in a plain working gown with her hair pulled back, smudges of a black soot across her covering her exposed flesh, and an apron tied around her waist. She hadn't even bothered changing out of the clothes she'd worked yesterday evening because...well, she hadn't exactly slept and maybe that's what started this whole mess.
Relying on bits of information she'd gathered from her older sister and a few others she passed, Zerynthia went out searching for Tiam. She needed to find someone who could help her that wouldn't blab and if he tried it...well, she was really good at black mail.

So far it was a good day for Tiam. He had no patients to take care of at current but he'd been instructed to finish making a salve by his mentor. Knowing how to make such a thing was part of his training and good knowledge to have anyways. So he sat outside the small clinic his mentor ran while grinding down the herbs he needed. The familiar sound of the herbs being crushed and broken down was soothing to his ears and it went nicely with the background noise of the passersby. Tiam got lost in the seemingly thoughtless job, staring at the ground in front of him as he worked. He was thinking about a few things that had nothing to do with healing so it was nice to have a task that didn't require his full attention.

A part of Zerynthia wondered if he was even going to be at this clinic. What if he was spending time with Zota and she'd missed him completely? She couldn't very well ask her older sister! With a whine in the back of her throat, the young teen maneuvered around a few people until the clinic was in sight and a young man was seen outside. Even though she'd never personally seen Tiam she knew what to look for. Pure Tale blood, longer hair, some that had been braided with jewelry... "Uhm, excuse me, are you Tiam?"

He heard someone speaking and blinked out of his thoughts. Instantly his usual 'healers smile' went into place. He'd learned early on that it helped people to be at ease when he was treating them. As he looked toward the young speaker he found himself a little speechless. It was almost like he was looking at a little version of Zota. Well, sorta. There were differences but the two had to be related. "Wh- uh.. Yes. That's me." He knew that didn't sound professional but he was take a bit off guard. Tiam looked at the girl a bit more before he noticed how she was holding her hand. "Are you alright? Do you need treatment?" Worry laced his voice as he set aside the herbs he'd been grinding down.

Zerynthia looked over her shoulder to make sure she wasn't being followed - even though she clearly hadn't been - before turning back to Tiam. "I need help, and I'll pay extra if you tell no one I was here today." Despite her worry and pain, Zeri tried to make herself as stern as a young, shrimpy teenager could. She moved a little closer and lowered her voice, "My name is Zerynthia, I'm Zota's younger sister. She said you were a healer?"

Tiam watched her look over her shoulder and it just made him lift his gaze to see what it was she was looking for. As he saw no one there he wasn't sure if he should ask her if she was in trouble or not. Deciding it would be best to keep hush for now he looked back at the girl the same time she turned back to him. The fact that she wanted no one to know she was there was a bit suspicious. Who would be mad at a little girl for getting treated? When she introduced herself, albeit in a lower tone, he almost choked on his own spit. Tiam had thought the girl looked very similar to Zota but hadn't thought about her being the little sister. "I am a healer, yes." He confirmed. Not telling Zota that her sister came for treatment would feel like a lie. Especially if she asked him. It would put him in a very awkward spot. Still, he couldn't say no to a patient. "You don't need to pay extra. Come sit and tell me what happened." It would also let him know which supplies he needed.

Zerynthia let out a sigh. "Okay, good." She knew he wasn't as old as some of the healer's she'd gone to, but if anything that made it better for Zerynthia. An older, more experienced healer may have felt obligated to tell her parents; hopefully Tiam would not. She walked closer to him and took a seat, gingerly laying her hand down onto her lap. The cloth that was wrapped around it looked as thick as a makeshift mitten, though it wasn't the cold she was worried about. "So I'm a really good performer," She said, almost too fast, "but it helps when you have something flashy to catch their attention. Clothes and jewelry are fine; their just basic." Slowly, Zerynthia started to unwrap her hand. "I've always had black powder. I got a hold of some as a kid and I'm really good at mixing it so that it makes these 'pops' during my shows. This time it just...didn't work out right..." And when she'd unwrapped it the damage was visible. Zerynthia's palm, some of her fingers and the inside of her wrist was a deep red. It's shiny, almost wet looking appearance, couldn't hide the blisters or discoloration. "I put it in cold water like I've done before, but this time it just hurts more."

As she started to tell him what happened he eyed her mitten wrapped hand with a bit of worry. Just what was he dealing with? What supplies would he need? As the girl mentioned something flashy he worried she had been messing with fire. Then the tale of black powder came about and he took in a deep breath. That explained it. The girl had gotten burned. A contact burn from the sounds of it. When her hand was finally revealed he saw the extent of it and let his breath out slowly. "I'm guessing you had some residue still on your hand when it went 'pop' and that caused more damage than you're used to." Though she shouldn't really be messing with the stuff. "Let me grab some supplies real quick and we'll see about fixing you up." Tiam smiled at her before getting up and heading inside to grab the basket of basic supplies as well as some salves off the shelf. He had a feeling he was going to be sending her on her way with a small jar.

While Zerynthia could flex her fingers the act itself hurt and the residual heat lingered. They lay, slightly bent, on her lap as the teenager did her best not to panic just by looking at it. "Okay," She murmured and nodded her head. There was always a risk; she'd been told that when she was sold the stuff. Zerynthia had just foolishly believed it would never happen to her. I'm still going to be able to use my hand, right? If she'd really messed it up...Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes and Zerynthia stifled a cry by taking a very unsteady inhale.

Tiam made his way back over to the girl once he had the things he needed. Of course he saw the look she had on her face and had caught the last second of the unsteady breath. He could tell she was worried so he offered a small smile. "Let me take a look and we'll see what we can do." Until he cleaned the wound up and really got into it he couldn't tell her how good or bad it was. Once situated he grabbed the small cotton and cleaning solution, pouring it into a bowl, then held his hand out for her own. "Ready?" If she was scared he didn't want to rush her. Tiam knew it was best to let the patients feel they were in control of things to help settle their nerves.

For a moment Zerynthia hesitated. Was she ready? The childish part of her didn't want it to hurt, but it already hurt so there was a good chance it would be worse. Still, she couldn't go home with it looking like that, not if she wanted to keep practicing in peace. Zeri cautiously placed her hand in his. "If I was better with my magic then this wouldn't have happened," the teen murmured. "This...doesn't usually happen. I'm a lot better than this." Who was she saving face for? Him or herself?

He waited even after he had her hand in his. Once she started to talk to him he lightly dabbed the cotton soaked in cleaning solution onto the lightest place with the burn. Tiam wanted to start off easy and work his way to the worst of it. "Magic does take practice but even the best magic users have accidents from time to time." He tried to reassure her. The healer didn't want her to think that it was hopeless or get her spirits down. "How often do you use the black powder?" He figured if he could distract her enough with questions then he may be able to clean the wound off completely without her really noticing.

"As often as I can." Her hand started stinging the moment he started messing with it, but it wasn't so terrible yet that she felt the need to pull away. Zerynthia took as deep a breath as she could to steady herself, and focused more on his face and surroundings than the hand itself. "I got some when I was a kid and I've been working with it to make explosions. Nothing big, just distractions and added effects for my performances." That little bit wasn't a huge cause for concern at the time. It had barely been enough for a 'pop' the size of her nail, but now? Now Zerynthia was dealing with bigger, better things.

He hummed a little as she explained what she used the powder for. Tiam could understand. Some performances were made better by flashy things. "Do you need to touch it to make it go pop?" If she didn't need to have her hand directly on it then they may be able to come up with a barrier of sorts for her to wear. A glove or even a salve to protect her hand from anymore damage. He glanced up at her face to see if she was in too much pain for him to continue dabbing the solution on the wound. While she didn't show signs of being in a lot of pain he had noticed her deep breath so he paused for a second to sprinkle on a bit of a pain killer. It would touch the raw skin and numb it some so he could continue.

"Not all the time. Sometimes I do, but sometimes I can flick a little stone out of my hand that hits it. It just depends on what I'm able to set up and where the performance is taking place." Sometimes all she had to work with was a street corner while others were a nicer stage in a tavern. Granted those locations didn't allow her to use the powder at all, but sometimes she tried sneaking it in anyway... The initial contact of painkiller made her jerk and she would have pulled her hand back completely if he hadn't had a hold of it. After a few moments it started to lessen, though Zerynthia's posture stayed rigid.
