Plants were his thing, they always had been, and he’d gotten a bit caught up in his passion for them. It had been a love since he was a child, though he did have a strong dislike for spiders which tended to hang around his plants, and he had been leaning hard into his passion for his plants. He knew he was, all it took as a single glance about his office for him to see how hard he’d been leaning into his obsession, but something was happening with his plants.
They were taking energy! They were gathering energy and now that he knew it, even if it had cost him a bit, he wanted to see just what else they could do.
Some plants had medicinal purposes, he knew this well, and he was wondering if his plants gathering energy might give those effects a boost of some sort? Something which might do better, putting them on par with normal pharmaceuticals. To that end he’d gone on a shopping spree for books, lots of books, from Barns and Noble to the witchcraft shop he’d previously worked for. Grabbing every book on herbal medicine and herbal magic which he could get his green little fingers on.
Books were stacked on his desk, to his right and his left, a book open in front of him as he sat reading. He was still avoiding lights in his office, aside from the ones helping his plants grow, and was opting for candles instead. The flickering warm glow sent shadows skittering about his office as they shook with every slight change in the airflow, the shadows reached up towards the ceiling of his room as well as the light of the flame, it was a beautiful sight really.
Flipping another page he continued his reading, a finger ghosting over the pages of the book, his eyes following after his finger tip.
Maybe, soon enough, he could grab some leaves and even flower petals and see what effects they would have on himself, if used as a tea or something else, he’d just need to figure out what teas to go ahead and make out of what he had. He could also try and make a paste or two as well. If they worked better than they normally, would, when normal plants were used, then he’d have potentially a valuable asset.
“But better yet….they gather energy…” And he wasn’t going to try and feed all these plants, as he was certain they’d all reach that point where they’d hunger for energy. “I might need to look into a bigger place.” The words a whisper on his lips as he didn’t stop reading.

Arseno had finally found time to go back to the castle after a large absence from it. Being a resident doctor had found himself barely any time to do much of anything having to do with the Negaverse and even giving him enough energy to do anything as a civilian. It was finally starting to ease up as he was in his last few months before he would become a full fledged doctor, and he took the opportunity to visit his mentor and friend.
He knocked on the door of Beni’s office 3 times before giving it a slight pause and then opening the door himself. He could barely see the other General and there was a smell… “You sure you aren’t just using this as a pot lab?” He jokingly asked the other, glad that he had a mask to cover up some of the smell that was lingering.
He could tell that Beni had been pouring over books and the plants appeared to be quite varied. “Did you find something interesting?” He said as he wandered over to the other, only attempting to see what he was reading for a little bit. “Anything I can help with? I finally have some free time after being a zombie for so long.”

Looking up from his book he rolled his eyes at the other. “It’s skunk cabbage, it’s a plant. I’m trying to grow one and see how well it does indoors.” He stated casually, marking the page in his book and closing it slowly. His slate eyes focused on the other.
“Mmm, I have noted some interesting things and I do want to test out some ideas as well.” Tilting his head he slowly smiled up at the other. “Things which might just interest you, given your choice in career.” Trailing off as he looked over his plants for a moment, gaze roaming over the hoard of plants he’d managed to gather for himself. His office really was being taken over by them.
“I was going to use myself as a human guinea pig, not something I fancy but it would get the work done, but if you wanted to use it on other people…I wouldn’t mind in the slightest.” He was, and he knew, being a bit vague. He wasn’t going into what he wanted to test or anything yet…he would though. It was clearly medical in some way though.

Arseno raised one of his eyebrows in response. “Oh? That does sound interesting. I’m sure I could find a few… participants that we could use to test these on.” It reminded him of his earlier years in the Negaverse. When he actually had time to capture civilians and experiment on them. Before he was zombified by Medical school and residency.
“Well, it certainly lives up to it’s name.” He replied, looking at the stinky plant. “This would be a great place for growing pot though if those above agreed with it. At least you wouldn’t be raided by the police.” Though he did wonder how well they would put up against something like a gun. He hadn’t yet been in a situation where he was powered and had gone up against one.
Arseno took a seat near Beni. “Want to tell me what you’re trying to do? I think I remember a conversation about plants long ago, or else that’s my zombie brain misremembering things.”

"No, and it would make money, but I’m not interested in drug dealing.” Though he would be good at growing weed, considering how good he did with growing plants. “Mmmm.” Nodding his head to the other. “Take a seat, and you do remember correctly. I wanted to try and grow them, down here, and see if it was possible.” Obviously he’d proven it could be done.
“It took time, and some playing around, but I’ve managed to make it work. These plants however gather energy, slowly, but they do take energy.” And yet he still sat in the room with them and now Arseno did as well. “I want to see what else they can do. If plants which have medical properties might be stronger than they normally would be - boosted sort to speak. Due to their energy gathering I wonder if it won’t change the effects they have on people.” Which was entirely possible and what might not be a deadly dose normally might be now. What might help a person in small doses, but kill in large quantities, might kill far easier now.

Arseno nodded, following along. “I’m glad that you attained your goal.” He said with a small smile, though it went unseen. He was interested when he heard that the plants could drain energy. While he would much rather use them to give energy to himself, finding another way to gather it that didn’t require a General going out and about town to do so was good.
“Mhmm, so basically like a buff and rebuff in video game terms. I’m in, whatever it is.” While he wasn’t a total nerd, if he could make video games effects and other such things work in the real world, he certainly wouldn’t be against making them a reality. After all, the world already produced such dark medicines. How would these be different?
He couldn’t help but chuckle. “So basically they all lead to death if you have too much? I’m pretty sure that goes with anything.” He said, trying to make another joke. “I would be more interested in seeing if they would help us and not possibly kill us in stronger doses. Making us stronger, giving us more defense, treating wounds more quickly, the possibilities are basically endless.”

“They can be and I don’t know if we could use them for defense but perhaps. I rather think they might wind up more potent than they normally would be. Willow tree bark, amongst other uses, can help with headaches. I’m wondering if a lesser dose, using a plant that’s enhanced, might do the same job as a larger dose.” That sort of thing. It meant tinkering with doses though…and possibly making someone sick or killing someone, not that he was aiming to kill anyone with these tests, but he knew it was possible. Even without this the idea of dosing with plants was hit and miss, and was a bit like walking a tightrope.
“I’d like to see just what they can do, dangerous as it would be, but if you could find people to test things on….” Trailing off as he gazed up at the other.
“You could test for what you want but also to see what I’d like to know as well. I’ve been doing more research on plants in medicine to help with this.” Something he already held a great deal of knowledge about, more than most people, but he didn’t know how much his fellow General knew about such things. “You can use my books if you’d like.”

“They may not all be willing volunteers, but I can certainly find them. And if nothing bad does happen to them, we can certainly drain them so that they do not remember any of it. Or take their starseeds. Either one.” He said with a shrug. He wasn’t into killing people for fun, but for science to be improved upon, whether it was non magical or magical based, there would have to be some sacrifices.
“But for testing purposes would you rather it be for those powered or not? The effects may be different on civilians versus Agents. It could even be different between Chaos and Order. And a wider pool would be needed also.” He raised an eyebrow at Beni. “It might take a while to get any good data for this.
He took a look around the room before his sight rested on Beni again. “Would you be willing to part with one of these plants? We could see how much energy it collects, especially in more populated places.” He couldn’t help but groan and move his head back at the mention of books. “As much as I would love to read the books that you are on these, I think my mind needs a break from them. I’ll let you know after I complete my residency whether I can read a book again without feeling the need to take a ton of notes.”

“We can go with energy draining and if that fails to keep our secrets than we’ll remove starseeds.” He wasn’t much for killing civilians, at least most of the time, but sometimes things needed to be done. He’d do what was needed when it was needed. If they could avoid it he would prefer it. “I’d like to know whatever results you come up with.” Nodding his head, he knew the other would provide results for him.
“Mmm, you are right. I’d say lets keep it to civilians and order, if we can, for now. It might be harder to get ahold of order to use…much less keep things silent and hold our secrets close. But I’d prefer not to use it on our own, I’d like to keep things secret for now. I doubt anyone would be willing to risk themselves and the higher ups won’t likely allow us to turn our own into lab rats.”
Laughing he nodded his head and gestured about his office. “Take a plant or two, help yourself, and I can understand that. I’ve decided to go for a degree in botany.” He was more than happy to part with a plant or two, whatever the other needed. “I was thinking of bringing one home with me anyway. So more data would be good.”

Arseno nodded. “Sounds like a plan then. It will be easy to get civilians. Order probably less so, but it might be interesting to try at the very least.” He said standing up, stretching a little. “I’ll keep the civilians alive for now, but even if one remembers then we’ll have to start draining them completely. Or just taking their starseeds.” He said shrugging at the thought.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let anyone else know about this. We don’t need them to know anyway. Not now. Let me know if you decide to change that though. I wouldn’t want to keep doing it if we were told not to by the higher ups.” He said with a roll of his eyes.
He looked around and decided to take one of the palm plants that was in the office. “This will be good in the hospital, or at least an office. Or maybe my girlfriend can use it. They’re even less likely to suspect a Dark Mirror, even if they know we’re together.” He said with a nod. “And we’ll need to meet up again soon. Not just for any results, but sharing information and other such things.” He said with a wave. He then nodded to Beni and moved out of his office, trying to decide where he was going to keep it in the meantime. It definitely wouldn’t be at his apartment. He needed more energy, not less.

“I don’t know if draining completely will help with memory…” Trailing off he fought against his own morals, what was left of them anyway, as he liked to try and not harm civilians more than needed. He needed to cover what was going on though and this might offer an option for that. “I might know how to cover up the memory issues…but I don’t know if it’ll interfere with what you’ll do doing. I don’t think it will however.” Shifting in his seat he shuffled his books about before he pulled one out from the stack. Flipping through it he landed on something and offered it to the other.
“Normally I wouldn’t suggest this, it’s risky and could kill them anyway, but it could be promising as well. I won’t pretend to be some genius where I’d know the right dosing, it would likely differ with each person, but if we could get ahold of it via Negaverse connections it might help.” Which means he either went under the table and found some sort of connection or he found another way, some other way, to obtain what he was suggesting to Arsenpyrite.
“I’ll keep you up to date on everything, you are doing me a favor after all, I wouldn’t want you getting in trouble unnecessarily. If I can help it.” Somehow this all felt like some cloak and dagger, under the table, in the dark dealings to him. But was it any different from what others did when planning things in the beginning stages? Laughing as the other left, after making sure he took the book as well, Benitoite sat back in his chair.
Maybe, just maybe, this would all work out in the end. He wasn’t sure how, not entirely anyway, but there was promise right now…a lot of promise.
