Prompt 2: You're singing in the rain ♪♫♪ Just singing in the rain! ♪♫

Man, if Reiki had ever needed an impetus to put down his current sewing project and ******** off into the night to do some magical girl nonsense? Facebook had given it to him in spades. Via some of social media’s nonsensical friend-of-a-friend post-sharing garbage, he’d seen an engagement announcement post from one of his old classmates from Meadowview. Reiki hadn’t liked Madison very much back then and she hadn’t liked him either, but she was one of the people who hadn’t totally gone missing since graduation, or fallen into a mysterious coma that had never ended, or anything like that, which made him really, really want to be happy for her and whatever brick-faced white guy she’d apparently fallen in love with at college in Massachusetts.

Instead, all he’d felt had been an itch to get out of his own head. Who cared that it was raining? Hopping around rooftops in search of anything that looked like trouble gave Reiki something to do with himself other than sit around and obsess about his objectively terrible taste in men. Greg, who’d tried to change everything about him, cheated on him besides, and tried to change everything about Justin on top of it. Levi, who was too good for him and had too much else going on for Reiki to even remotely consider that he might have rated. Faustite, who may or may not have still wanted that date, but even if he did, he already had a harem of significantly more impressive boys who were actually with the Negaverse, and it was hard for Reiki to imagine that Faustite had any real use for a boy who was tall and loud, but not particularly special or unique.

(Also, Faustite was a General-Sovereign now, which probably meant all kinds of additional scrutiny that might not or might not have allowed any room for fraternizing with a hot mess Mirror-Thing who really didn’t want to be a Mirror-Thing anymore, and he’d sure tried to do something to Cybele’s Starseed that night outside the bank, and Reiki had a lot of questions about what this all meant but he had serious doubts about any of it being good. Plus, he actively wanted to join a contingent of senshi and Knights who……probably had a lot of very unkind things to say about Faustite, some of which were probably fair, given his usual temperament and behaviors, and others of which……well. Reiki suspected several complaints about Faustite only really amounted to <******** him for being half-youma.”)

Seriously, what unlucky b*****d was Reiki going to crush on next?

“Frustrated, sitting at home,” Reiki sang, more for himself than anyone else. “Life’s too short to spend alone.” Bless the dulcet tones of Pansy Division for existing and giving Reiki a way to stop completely obsessing about his own feelings—or, rather, voicing them without needing his own words. All the better for him to focus on feelings around for youma auras, or otherwise search for Trouble. “So you throw some clothes on that tired body, venture out and try to meet somebody. But it’s a temporary gaaaain, to tide you over and keep you from going insaaaaane.…”

This was the second strange, Chaos-tainted Senshi that croaked when wet and Vilenius was already done with him before he’d even made contact.

He was wet, and miserable, and like a soaked cat he wanted to scream and claw and bite everything nearby. The rain wasn’t even coming down that hard, it felt like little more than a fine mist, but Vilenius hated it. His clothes were heavy and stuck to him, and all he wanted to do was go back to Sterling’s–back to the dry, well-lit room.

Instead, he was sulking atop the rooftop, waiting for the water to clear up so he could remember how to get back to the house.

He thought the water was bad enough, but that noise.

It carried. It made his skin crawl. It felt like nails on stone.

He didn’t know why. If he’d heard it anywhere else he might have thought it was nice. But here, now, it was the worst thing he’d ever heard.

So, Vilenius moved to the edge of the building and looked down. It wasn’t difficult to spot the Dark Mirror Senshi.

He crouched at the edge of the building and positioned himself. He waited. Murikabushi’s voice carried again.

Vilenius watched. His lip curled. He had to raise his hands to cover his ears. He could still make out the words.

From up here, he probably could have dropped from the roof feet first and landed right on the Dark Mirror Senshi. Maybe he could have squashed him right into the ground. He humored the dream for a moment, and imagined how satisfied he'd be, even if he did get his boots dirty. But, the Dark Mirror Senshi wasn't so low to the ground that he could have done so much. Probably. Even if Vilenius was perched on a building a bit taller than the others.

His brow twitched as he watched--listened--and wondered what it was about Earth's Chaos-Walkers that made them so easy-going. How were they not dissolving under the weight of their own Chaos? How had it not yet consumed them? Why were they out, squawking, always in the rain?

Vilenius was soaked through. This was not a pleasant experience. He might have been out hunting but every sound was a nail in his ear drum, and the passionate singing of the Chaos-afflicted Senshi below him was unbearable.

The words didn't make sense. The Senshi wasn't sitting at home. He was out in public, making his woes everyone else's. Was he trying to meet someone? Those were the clothes he chose to do that? What was he gaining beyond Vilenius' ire? He was the one going insane.

Was it a curse, then? Some dark spell, words spun to warp the mind of its listeners? Vilenius pressed his hands firmer to his ears. The Dark Mirror Senshi hadn't even seemed to look up at him, so either he noticed his energy signature and was pretending like he hadn't or he was truly unaware of his present.

Either way, Vilenius had no intention of being trapped by some awkwardly wailed spell. His hands sealed his ears and almost blocked off the sound. He pushed himself to his feet without them and decided he would sulk in the rain somewhere else. Somewhere quieter.

Somewhere without the piercing call of Chaos.
