His head was filled with flies. At least that was what it felt like, ideas and thoughts buzzing around to the point that they were growing quite annoying. The idea of doing a patrol was…annoying but. It had to be done.

Langite felt another Corrupted Senshi nearby and made his way over, staring at the pink and black clad male and trying to put a name to a face.

They had met before. With the giant deer but.

“You’ve gotten stronger too. Congratulations.” He nodded at the male and his eyes moved over the long feathers that extended from his back. “You’re like a peacock. Wrongly colored though. I like it. We didn’t really get a chance to speak the last time we saw each other…” Langite closed the distance between himself and the other Corrupt and held out his hand. “We should remedy that.”

Perhaps they could become patrol partners, or even friends. It would be nice to have more actual friends in all of this. All he really had was Suazku, and he didn’t see her very often. “What powers do you have?”

Niter used patrolling not as a means to get away from his thoughts, but as a way to air them out. Gathering energy had gotten routine enough that he could safely drain on autopilot, as long as he had his hoodie on, and confront what needed to be confronted.

In this case, it was the upcoming move into General Arsenolite's — Emmett's — place. The amount of trust and commitment still took him off-guard. Maybe Emmett trusted him because he was part of the Negaverse too? And if a soldier needed a place to stay, maybe it was the right thing for a superior officer to do to help them out? Either way, his bills just got cut way down by agreeing to this move, too. Niter felt like the deal was all positives on his part and not really much, if any, responsibility. He was grateful for that, and he wouldn't go asking Emmet to give him more things to do as compensation because that was placing an additional burden on someone who was essentially his host. He just had to figure out a way —

Niter jumped visibly when he heard words to his right. It was the senshi from wintertime; Niter recognized the traditional robes and elegant, long hair. That's right, they were both Basic Senshi at the time, struggling to figure things out when they were assaulted by strange creatures that weren't quite youma.

"Thanks," he managed after a beat. He wasn't sure what else would be polite to say after getting a mildly insulting compliment, but Niter didn't think it was intentional. It was true, though, that Niter's outfit was very eye-catching and not at all what Niter would've liked to wear. Peacock was a descriptive enough word for it. "I think your uniform's definitely better to work in, though." He could pass as a historical cosplayer or something.

"Yeah, um," Niter looked at the length of street before him. "There was a deer? Thing? In the way. That made it hard to talk about anything." He had since decided that he didn't like ungulates of any kind.

The powers though — that one always rubbed him wrong. "My sphere's the interstice? Which is just a big fancy word for 'I can make things disappear and reappear somewhere else'. It's only been helpful for like, disarming people.

"What about you? What new powers did you get?"

Langite nodded slowly, pleased that the other Corrupt wanted to at least have a conversation with him. That made things easier than if he hadn’t. “Thank you, I’m quite partial to my outfit, I must say…I feel…quite powerful in it. Elegant.” And honestly, comfortable. If robes could become the fashion of the day again, he would be pleased about it and would have more than enough sets to strut his peacock side.

“Interesting…at least if you can disarm people…that’s useful if someone decides they want to bludgeon you with their weapon…”

He looked Niter over for a moment. “It’s easier if I show you rather than telling you, it’s…difficult to explain.”

And it was. Sure it was easy enough in concept but.

Looking at Niter, Langite looked away, closing his eyes. “I yearn.”

It sucked though, not having magic that could be used in return…Langite had nothing to use as a weapon so there was no use in disarming him.

Ah well.

Langite looks at his target and then closes his eyes and looks away, and a powerful feeling of longing comes over them. The feeling of wanting, needing something that is just out of reach. Will cause chest pains or utterly unwanted tears. It is a good distraction, can affect up to three people who are within a ten foot range, and lasts for thirty five seconds. Two Uses.

Niter smiled and nodded. He wanted to say that makes one of us, but that just seemed spiteful and self-serving. The other senshi (whose name he couldn't remember) didn't deserve to be made aware of Niter's suffering and feel bad for saying anything about his outfit. It was a good robe, after all, and Niter felt that they should feel comfortable in their magically-assigned outfits. His was just a wardrobe mix-up, probably.

If he was a different kind of person, he could probably look the other senshi in the eye and tell him that he could make that robe disappear, which was true, but that sounded like it came with all sorts of implications that Niter wasn't equipped to handle. Thus, he kept the ramifications of outfits being magical to himself.

Niter didn't think much of how to respond to the other senshi's magic being difficult to explain. His was hard to explain, too, but some people did better with actions than with words. "Oh, okay," he returned.

Niter didn't expect the magic to just… happen to him.

Nor did he expect to feel despair crush the breath out of him as he was ruthlessly reminded that he couldn't pull his weight, that he'd been a burden to his family and he couldn't even begin to pay the Negaverse back for all the kindness and help that its officers had shown him. They were all pissing away their effort for someone who couldn't even hope to repay them for it.

All he wanted was to stop being a burden, to be an equal, to pay them back everything they were owed. He just wanted to be independent and helpful and able to keep up with the rest. But was that possible? Niter didn't think so.

Niter bit his tongue to curb any tears that threatened to spill. "I, um, sorry — excuse me, I need to go." He split off down an alley, looking for some measure of privacy to put himself back together.

Langite didn’t often feel…bad for his magic…but. He had seen the agony on the other corrupt’s face, and some guilt threatened to overwhelm him. For a moment he began to follow, but then paused, hesitating. Would it be better to offer comfort now? An apology? Or should he let the other corrupt save some face and pull himself together in his own way?

Chewing his lip, Langite decided to not follow and instead to send a follow up, see if there was anything they could do in the future. No more testing magic but. Perhaps they could be friends…perhaps. He should send a gift basket?

No, that was far too formal but.

Damnit.

Hesitating a moment more, Langite finally gave a sigh and vanished into the night.

He would find the other corrupt again. He didn’t have a name, but he had a sphere…and that would be enough to find him again. They could be friends. He would see to it.

…And when that happened. He would apologize.

By the time Niter ducked into an alleyway, he already had his cell phone out. The clock app was one of his foremost apps, given that they were organized by how often Niter used them. He navigated to the timer function and set a timer for three minutes.

Then he squatted down on a stack of dirty pallets that sat outside a receiving door. It was relieving, in a way, knowing he had three minutes in which he was allowed to cry. He could feel everything that he had to feel, from being a useless burden to having no hope of paying anyone back for their kindness, and for being weak enough that the other senshi's magic hit him that hard, and in three minutes he could go back to normal.

But partway through, around the 30 second mark, Niter felt the other senshi's aura disappear. Did he decide Niter was too much of a loser for his time? Did he feel bad and decide to leave himself? Did he suddenly have to go to the bathroom?

Niter wouldn't know. And he couldn't remember the other senshi's name such that he could text him and find out, or apologize for being a wuss.

Niter felt worse now. Three minutes was changed to five, then ten. Once he hit ten, it wuold be time to go home, shower, and try again another day.
