Nickelodeon in 1991 Narrator: For Nickelodeon, however, there was no stopping them now as 1991 was a big year for them as this was their moment to shine bright. The Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando began their productions & after a very long wait, their first 3 Original Animation Series were born under the name, "Nicktoons", starting with Doug, Ren & Stimpy and Rugrats. Until a Yellow Squared Sponge who lives in a Fruit that we all know and love changes the world, 8 Years Later.
Salute Your Shorts got its full series & Danger Mouse returned to the airwaves after 4 years. During this year, 2 New Game Shows were launched, 3 Original Animation Series, 4 Sitcoms & 1 News Reel Show were released along with the Pilots for Pete & Pete and Are You Afraid of the Dark.
However, several shows were axed in exchange for Vibrant Quality. Think Fast, Make the Grade, Outta Here, Today's Special, Don't Just Sit There & Skate TV ended on a 2-1 Basis.
Focusing on their games, the First is a Hidden Picture themed Game called Get the Picture and the Second is the Third Incarnation of Total Panic called What Would You Do. The Narrator said to the viewers and characters

[Player's Room] *Part 1: Salvation by Double Dare* Alright. Its been said before but it bears repeating the fact that Double Dare saved Nickelodeon from itself as Layborune got Nickelodeon out of its Pinball Edutainment Motif and moved to a Kids in Charge Motif where they had ups and downs until this mess game was born. It was a smash hit for Nickelodeon.
Since Nickelodeon wanted to continue with a successful overnight plan by investing in more games such as Finders Keepers, Think Fast & Make the Grade which to the Narrator did well. While Finders Keepers was a setback it did lay the foundation for a Hidden Object themed game. This is where Nickelodeon Games were side to being a side project around that time.
Think Fast & Make the Grade could have used more development time rather than being rushed out where both shows took on a Classroom motif during 1989. Both shows could have used more time but were set aside quickly.
Following the Grand Opening of Nick Studios in 1990, Nickelodeon had more than enough time to make the next big Double Dare before Nick Studios fell flat. Double Dare was in its last years but Nick Studios were working on its Sitcoms and Animated Series in 1991.
But by now you would guess that the 1990s would have many leaps and bounds. While this was the middle point for Children's' TV Games for Nick Arcade & Legends of the Hidden Temple which we will talk about later on when we reach 1992 and 1993.
But for now, looking at the first of two Kids TV Games in March 1991, Nickelodeon would return to the Hidden Object Genre but turn it on its head with a Hidden Picture Themed game called, Get The Picture. Steffan said to Chelsea & the Viewers
*Part 2: Get the Picture - Core Gameplay* For those unfamilar with Get the Picture on Nickelodoen, here's how the game works. The Game is simple enough to understand as its played with 2 players on each team, Orange and Yellow, as they answer General Knowledge Questions to reveal spaces on a 16-Monitor Display to guess what the Hidden Picture contains. However, the General Knowledge Questions Difficulty increases with each Round.
Round 1 being Connect the Dots, contained simple General Knowledge Questions where a team would ring in to answer. When a team answers right, that team scores $20 and makes a selection on the board of his/her choosing which reveals the dots being connected. After that, the Team has the option of guessing the Hidden Picture or Proceeding to the Next Question. Should they answer wrong, they lose $20 but if they guess it correctly, its worth $50.
Hidden on the board is a Power Surge which are Minigames & Stunt Challenges for a Team to earn bonus scores. They can range from identifying hidden pictures from the clues given. Once a Power Surge Space is revealed it showed a Fragment of the hidden picture. Should a team guess a hidden picture correctly and still in an early state of gameplay, the next hidden picture will be set into place should there's extra time in the current round. If not, then the board is wiped and the Round goes into Sudden Death where the first team to ring in with a correct guess gets the points and ends the round with no penalty for an incorrect answer.
Round 2 of Get the Picture is called Dots and this is where the Game's General Knowledge Questions difficulty increase where the hidden picture is revealed in a game of Lines & Squares where a fragment is revealed once a square is completed. Lines are earned by answering questions that contain 2, 3 or 4 correct answers (ie: Name Four Elemental Spirits in the Frozen Trilogy) Correct answers gave the Team $40 and a shot at guessing the hidden picture and a correct hidden picture guess gets $75.
Round 2 also has power surge spaces that contain stunt challenges such as throwing beanbags, putting golf balls and shuffle boarding. The Goal for Round 2's Power Surges is to reveal a 3x3 Hidden Picture for a bonus cash prize. The Team with the Highest score after 2 rounds wins the game.
*Part 3: Get the Picture - Mega Memory* The winning team advances to Mega Memory where the team is tasked of memorizing 9 pictures on a 9 Monitor Grid and will then need to remember where the pictures were by using an oversized keypad which makes people shout at home "No! The Picture of a Cat Cake was on Number 6!" The First 6 Pictures were worth $100 each and the last 3 contained prizes such as Bikes, Video Games and even a Trip to Universal Studios Florida and that's how the game was played Steffan said to Chelsea & the Viewers
*Part 4: Marge Cohn's Creation* The show was created by Marjorie "Marge" Cohn who would eventually become president of DreamWorks Animation. She made her bread and butter at nickelodeon in 1986 as a production assistant for Double Dare. In 1991, she was a producer of Clarissa Explains it all and leading her to make her own children's TV Game. It was also worked on by Herb Scannell, who would become president of Nickelodeon during its Nicktoons Era.
*Part 5: What to Improve* While it was still deducting the points from a players score worked fine in Jeopardy, on Get the Picture, it was more of a Hit & Miss. However, it did add a challenging factor to the gameplay when it was done right. So what the Narrator would do to patch up its loose ends would be to make changes to the scoring system when we ask the Narrator "What would change about this game?" Here's what we can update for the game... = Scores in Round 1 Correct answer = $20 Correct Picture = $50 Power Surge Value = $40 Incorrect Picture = -$20 Power Surge Spaces = 1 Per Hidden Picture
= Scores in Round 2 Correct answer = $40 Correct Picture = $100 Power Surge Value = $80 Incorrect Picture = -$40 Power Surge Spaces = 2 Per Hidden Picture
= Mega Memory Each Space contains $100 and a Prize Completion of all 9 raises Cash Bonus to $1,000 and wins the Trip to Universal Florida
By Doubling the Scores, it would make the game challenging. Not just upping one score to unbalance the gameplay. So if you don't know the answer to a hidden picture and feel like you want to pass to the question, there's no shame in doing so. The reason why a team would lose points for a wrong answer is because its not to give an unfair advantage to the other team. So should a Team play very good, they could score 1,000 points or more, causing the Points Display to break past the Triple Digits.
*Part 6: Power Surges* Narrator: The Power Surge Spaces can use some better adjustments where 1 is used for each hidden picture in Round 1 while 2 are used for each hidden picture in Round 2 like the Daily Doubles in Jeopardy. During 1991, some hidden picture power surge rounds are slowly paced. By adding clues to the Power Surge Challenges, this would pick up the pace of the gameplay and not just static reveals. In other words, Get the Picture can use a bit more polish to extend its lifespan as a Children's' Game Show.
*Part 7: Design* The Production Design was the only praise that the game was remembered for. As the set was designed to look like the interior of a vintage computer which was later used for the Nick Arcade Pilot which a farcry from Finders Keepers as it was used for Nickelodoen's NASA Space Program being Launch Box which acted as a Midway point being what was once simple in years past and what's yet to come since Nickelodoen had money to burn as a Theme Park Attraction where they would be more larger than life.
*Part 8: Enter Mike O'Malley* This beings us to the Residing host of Get the Picture from 1991 to 1993. Mike O'Malley, who would eventually host GUTS & Global GUTS later on. Mike O'Malley was a theater student of New Hampture during the 1980s and was 24 when he hosted Get the Picture with no experience to Television but this would eventually turn Get the Picture into a Strong Effort. He was the comedian of Get the Picture as he was fun to watch where some episodes had odd Themes that Double Dare did. Knowing how to build the hype for children during the gameplay and when a Power Surge appeared. This made him a name stay for Nickelodeon. The first game since Double Dare to reach Marc Summers Quality and that Quality would lead to Glee. There would also be a lead in joke where a question would super long where the answer would be straight forward. The Narrator said to the characters and viewers
*Part 9: Lack of Messy Content* Narrator: While Get The Picture did not have any messy qualities. It had a playful tone.
*Part 10: Show's Lifespan* Get The Picture had 40 Episodes in 1991 during Season 1 with 75 Episodes in Season 2 which started Production that same year and aired in 1992. The only problem is that Players scored points instead of Cash while Cash was restricted to Mega Memory as that was a change that didn't really need to happen. In the First Season, Players would ring in using a Computer Keyboard but it was changed to a signaling button in Season 2. The only positive thing was a Toss Up Picture.
They also added a Podium for the Power Surge Challenges. However, axing the Stunt Challenges was not a good idea. But it did air weekdays at 6:30PM with a total of 115 Episodes but was consumed very quickly. Get The Picture ended production in December 1991. It was one of those games that had a Season 3 Promise but Nickelodeon's Progress was progressing way TOO Fast as Roundhouse was in production. Mike O'Malley was brought to host GUTS & Global GUTS which we will get to later on while Nickelodeon's Production went to a higher concept being Nick Arcade which we will talk about later.
Overall, Get the Picture became a Stepping Stone for Nickelodeon in the 1990s while Get the Picture's Reruns lasted for 15 Months until it moved Saturdays at 3:30PM. Get the Picture would be unplugged on March 1993. However, Get the Picture would return to Nick GAS because it would Lost Media if Nick GAS did not step in. At the moment due to tape traders, you can find 77 Episodes on YT nowadays as it was fun to watch for those who finished their homework after school.
On September 1993, SkyONE would gain Nickelodeon where SkyONE Simulcast with the USA and that first show was Get the Picture ending with a Transatlantic Sliming with Morria Quirk on the USA Side. More on this British Referee later when we get to GUTS later.
*Part 11: Conclusion* Narrator: That should do it for Get the Picture. In the Next Rules of the Game for 1991, Nickelodeon releases a Third Incarnation to Total Panic with Marc Summers hosing his second Nickelodeon Game which also acted as a Filler Game Show being What Would You Do.
