Leaning back in the chair that he had taken, Kieran closed his eyes for a moment as he pondered everything. Kaimana had been carrying that map around for a good couple of weeks now while trying to convince him to get the others involved in an exploration based on the old thing and now that Kieran had finally relented to his request, the Yaeli had to be confident. “Honestly? We won’t know unless we try.” He acknowledged after a moment with a small smile, the older Yaeli looking over Nanami and Noelani both. “The three of you are the best underwater explorers I know so I would think it’s worth a chance. What’s the worst that could happen other than an afternoon spent swimming around?” They also had Hunapo, Peni and even little Koa now as backup in the deeper waters.

“Exactly!” Kaimana had been nervous whenever the option to explore this particular map was presented, the Matori already feeling so restless after spending just a few weeks back home without anything to do. Ever since coming back from Kahi the adventurer had been a ball of energy, trying to figure out the past path going forward especially with so many changes in his own life. He was more of an artist now, a cartographer’s aid and also had to juggle romance with all of that in mind! So much for being the laid-back beach guy that he was so many years back before meeting Kieran. Now he was just eager to explore and find new expeditions for himself and the others. Honestly forming connections with so many other treasure hunters had been the best thing that could ever happen to Kaimana since returning to Matori. It fueled his energy for moments like these when they had something potentially exciting to explore right around the corner from home. “If anything it’s a good chance to test those underwater potions I invested in for explorations like this. I know Nanami doesn’t need it, obviously Noelani can be underwater for a long time as an experienced diver but Kieran and I are a bit lackluster in the existing underwater aspect.” He joked lightly as he gestured towards the glass bottles of light green liquid full of bubbles, some even looking remotely like the little jellyfish that floated along in the deeper ocean.

“We could get a pair of rowboats.” Kieran leaned forward and pointed out several little circles around the island. “If we need to go out further into the water and not on the island itself then we can anchor the boats there between those rocks.” He explained as he studied the placement of the supposed rocks, surely attachments washed away from the island itself eons ago which would be sturdy enough for them in the moment. “That way if there is too much treasure we can divide it between the ships and if that’s even not enough we can return at a later time. Getting anything larger may just attract unwanted attention.”

Kaimana paced back and forth a few more times before stopping. “Then we’ll anchor between the rocks. We’ll take our bare necessities to keep the load light, if we get washed out somehow then we all can hunt and scavenge for food so just the bare amount of rations and water is a risk I’m willing to take.” If they were going to an island further out, like towards Kahi, then he would gladly stockpile on a larger vessel with plenty of supplies to last them an extra month just in case of emergencies. In this situation though it felt unnecessary to bring additional supplies save for weapons, a lock picking kit, a medical kit, breathing potions and the like to keep them alive underwater. “The snaptrotters can tag along to help fight off any other unsavory wildlife that may want to interfere with our exploration.”

Pushing his glasses onto his nose, Kieran took a quill and ink so that he could start copying the map onto a blank piece of parchment. “I’m going to create two copies of this while we wait out the evening so that we’re covered in case of emergency.” He could leave one behind so that Kaimana could leave it as a letter to Devika and then the other would be their backup in case they lost any of their supplies and had to retreat from the area. “Other than that I do believe we’re settled as we all have our gear and weapons in case any fighting is necessary.” Kieran confirmed, his own whip coiled and attached to his side as the Yaeli was always ready for any emergency.

“I’ll secure the boats.” Kaimana nodded with a grin, the Matori eager to get this adventure started. To think that the group had agreed to tag along with him! He had been thinking about trying the adventure on his own, but after experiencing all the potential dangers of an underwater quest the explorer had thought better of it and asked for the others to help out. “Kieran and I will shack up here for the night while you ladies can enjoy your evening back home. We’ll meet back up at the docks early in the morning while the moon is still out over the harbor.” He could only grin as Kieran rolled his eyes at his playful teasing, the Matori’s good mood only growing the closer that they got to this adventure. What sort of treasures awaited them? He couldn’t wait to find out!

Kieran stretched as he finished the final copy of the treasure map. Next to him was a half eaten bowl of stew, acquired earlier from the nearby tavern, and one final slice of rye bread that he used to scoop the remaining stew towards his mouth. Swallowing, the Yaeli leaned back in his chair and allowed his eyes to close for a break. It was probably best if he got some rest since tomorrow would be a busy day for them, something that he noticed Kaimana was already doing while he slept quietly in the nearby cot. Alright, time to rest it is and then we’ll head out in a few hours…
