After her talk with Genesis, Tilly packed up her smaller backpack with the yearbook and hurried down the street to Dawn’s house. Obviously, (hopefully) her friend would want to see the yearbook before she got it in a few days, and some of the shots that Tilly was most proud of did feature her bff anyway so. Of course she should get a chance to show it off.
When she arrived at Dawn's house, she pressed the button for the doorbell and then knocked twice. A good signal, letting the whole family know that it was Tilly and not someone trying to sell knives or trips to heaven.
While she waited for her friend to open the door, she swung the small backpack off of her back and pulled the yearbook out, holding it in front of her face, clearly excited.
Even her feet were doing some excited tip taps.
Plus, unlike her sister, Dawn would appreciate how awful Stephanie had been to put that shot of Tilly in the yearbook. It was always good to have someone who appreciated a tragedy like this one.

Dawn hopped off the couch to answer the door as soon as she realized it wasn’t someone wanting to sell something or talk politics. Tilly’s arrival was a welcome one. Dawn was bored of the television, bored of her phone, and Mom wasn’t currently around to offer any company. Really, Dawn didn’t know what to do with herself on the days she didn’t have cheer practice.
She certainly looked to be having an uncharacteristically lazy day, wearing leggings and a loose t-shirt promoting the Meadowview Cheer Squad, her hair piled up on top of her head in a messy bun.
“Tilly!” she said and hugged her friend. “What are you doing here? Are you okay? You didn’t say you were coming! Or did I miss a text? I’m sorry, I’ve been so out of it today. Do you want to come in?”
The house she shared with her single mom was small and a bit old, but not cramped and only a little bit creaky after a series of renovations.
“Unless you want to hang out outside. The weather’s not too bad,” she said, with a bit of a wistful tone to her voice. She couldn’t wait until summer.

“Inside, outside, it doesn’t matter to me! I have the yearbook and thought you’d like to see it! You look fantastic if I do say so myself, and I do so. Deal with it!”
The hug was returned and Tilly couldn’t help but grin, producing the book and handing it over to Dawn. “If you’re really interested you can be the first one to sign it, and also hear me rant about how that brat Stephanie has a photo in here of me looking like an absolute cave troll. My sister was absolutely not sympathetic, but I know you will be!”
Tilly’s face contorted into a pout and she gently nudged Dawn’s shoulder. “How about outside. It is nice and warm today. It’ll be good for us both to get some sun before it crisps us in an instant, yeah?”

“Ooooo,” Dawn said, making grabby hands at the yearbook.
She dipped inside just long enough to grab her keys, phone, and a sharpee — because, yes, she did want to be the first one to sign it, thank you very much — before locking up and joining Tilly outside. The weather was lovely, a bit cloudy, but with just enough sun to keep things pleasantly warm.
Dawn hopped off the porch and flopped down onto the grass. There were chairs on the porch, but it was covered; Tilly was right, some sun would do them some good.
“Oof, you’re right, Stephanie did you dirty.” Dawn frowned. It wasn’t the worst photo, but it also wasn’t the most flattering. She was sure there had to’ve been other options, too, which meant Stephanie either wasn’t paying attention when she chose the photo, or she’d included it maliciously. “You still look cute, though, just not picture perfect.”
She found a picture of herself next and struggled not to cringe. Perfect hair. Perfect smile. A joyful light in her eyes. It was a good picture, but she couldn’t help being a little self conscious about her chin. Sometimes it just looked a little too squared for her liking.

“But, when does Stephanie not do people dirty? I’m so glad that she’s graduating this year, that should put me at the head of the yearbook committee if I’m lucky, so next year you’ll be everywhere just like you should be~”
Was Tilly biased for her best friend? Oh absolutely. Did she care? Absolutely not. “Oh, I love that one of you! The way the light is reflecting on your eyes…ah…I guess the quality isn’t as good as the actual picture, but like, you can see the whole bleachers reflected in your eyes, it’s honestly kind of magical. I’ll see if I can’t snag the large copy for you.”
Flopping on the ground, Tilly inched closer, wanting to see just what pictures Dawn was looking at. “Hey, after this do you want to go for a hike over in the woods in the park? It’s really a nice day. Could be fun?”

“Thank you,” Dawn said, flushing faintly — flattered, and a little embarrassed by the praise. She knew Tilly meant it, and it wasn’t hard to take a compliment, but… well, Dawn wasn’t always as confident in herself as she appeared.
She flipped through more of the yearbook, scanning photos as she went. “I hope you get it. Head of the committee, I mean. You’d be great at it, and not just because you’d pick my better angles.”
That certainly didn’t hurt, though.
There were plenty of pictures of the cheer squad, which meant Dawn had to see herself fairly frequently. Sports always seemed to be highlighted in the yearbook, even when there weren’t any accomplishments to speak of. Then there were their official, individual photos, which didn’t look half bad. Dawn was pleased she’d taken extra time to get read the morning those had been taken.
When she’d looked her fill, Dawn uncapped the sharpee and found some prime real estate on the blank pages meant for signing.
Love you bestie! Here’s to another fabulous school year! xoxo D, she wrote in a large scrawl, so it would stand out among any others Tilly happened to acquire.
“You had me at hike in the woods,” she announced when she was done.

Tilly grinned at the message and chuckled softly, nodding. “I always have you at hike in the woods. And that’s a good thing since we both enjoy hikes in the woods.” For different reasons she was sure but. Still.
“All right, give me two seconds because there’s no way I’m going to carry this thing on a hike, but…”
Darting back onto Dawn’s porch, Tilly slid the yearbook under one of the cushions on the chair and then sprinted back, linking elbows with Dawn. “Shall we go, darling? The world awaits us!”
And hopefully, some super cute animals to photograph too, but…that would just be a bonus.
