Azure waves crashed into the gray cliffside. Zoicite found himself looking up towards the cliffs while carrying a little bucket full of sand which he had gathered along the shoreline. While his family home was just a few minutes away nestled among the cliffs that were further away from the actual ocean, the home built partly into the caves found there, Zoicite liked to wander the beach and gather whatever he could. Today though he was inspired to try and actually build something with the sand and shells he had gathered, especially since both of their mothers were tagging along today for a beach picnic. It was a beautiful day with fluffy white clouds in the sky and plenty of sunshine, so perfect that Zoicite could not resist smiling as he looked around for Raffrdeigh. Did she find anything useful for their sand castle? Was this even a good spot for one? Raising a hand, Zoicite surveyed the beach again as he looked for the perfect spot. “See anything interesting, Raffrdeigh?” He called out, hoping his sister would show up to answer his question.

“It feels like years since we’ve simply enjoyed a day at the beach.” Murmured Nanami as she picked through the assortment of goods that she had packed for today’s excursion. Even though they were only a short walk away from home, the Kawena had made certain to pack everything possible for a picnic. Two large blankets, one with a sunset image woven into the image and the other with a night sky, were spread across the white sands while she had picked the perfect location just in front of two tall trees growing along the edge where the beach turned from grassy patches completely into sand. The shadows the trees cast were perfect for Nanami who was crouched down, her face mostly covered by a large sun hat decorated with a ribbon covered in various shells, and she barely needed to shift over to avoid the bright sunlight since the blankets were mostly covered in shade. It was a good spot to relax while letting her keep an eye on the younglings as they explored the nearby beach.

A soft chuckle left Noelani’s lips as she brushed a kiss across Ami’s cheek. “Years may be an exaggeration. We did this at least four months ago before going on that last excursion in Oba.” The hybrid shook her head as she reached for some of the pastries that Ami had packed for today’s outing. Admittedly it had been a while though and even she could not help the guilty expression that crossed her features as she looked out towards their younglings. Noelani trusted her parents and her grandparents to take care of their children whenever she was away because of work but she did miss moments like these. Maybe we should consider taking more time off before returning to work or working in Matori more. She mused with a soft sigh before leaning against Nanami. “Do you think they’ll build something amazing? I mentioned a fort with a sandcastle to Zoicite and he’s already taken with the idea.” Maybe if they were lucky the children would also ask for help though Noelani knew that both younglings preferred to figure things out on their own without relying too much upon others.

Raffrdeigh giggled as she chased after a cluster of minnows in the shallows. The tiny fish darted this way and that as they were pursued, shimmering in the clear water. With no need to resurface for air, she was able to linger underneath to really dig for treasures. Able to faintly hear his call through the water, she popped up quickly with a grin. "Yeah!" she chirped as she swam for the shore with her pack trailing after her.
On the beach, she pulled the bag up and dumped out the contents at Zoicite's feet as she talked in one long breath. "See? I found a green crystal, and some purple seaweed, and these rocks with the lines, and this cool spiral shell, and someone's glasses though one of the lenses is missing, and a sandal." Her grin grew as she looked to her brother for approval.

"I'm half worried about where you found the last one." Teased Zoicite before reaching out to pat Raffrdeigh's head. "Good job though!" He shifted so that he could open his own little knapsack, the worn leather cloth bag holding a variety of shells and colorful sea glass he had picked up while walking along the shoreline. While Raffrdeigh was more prone to swimming he was more prone to trying to find whatever was hidden along the coast, especially things that washed up and got caught within the nearby tidepool and rockier areas. "Think that's enough? Oh!" He glanced back towards the glasses with a slight purse of his lips, the youngling thinking hard on an idea for them. "What if there's an astro...err...star seeing tower and that can be the big piece that lets the person see the stars?" They could do a castle with a huge tower at the back with it! If they angled the glasses stuck in the sand just perfectly then it could look cool, right?

"Feels more like decades." Teased Nanami with a soft chuckle, the kawena leaning into the kiss that still gave her that warm and fluttery feeling. "Knowing our children? They'll probably go overboard and design the whole beach if we allow it." She replied with a small smile, the Kawena simply shaking her head as she witnessed the younglings pulling out various objects. Was that a pair of glasses? Should she even ask? A soft sigh left Nanami's lips as she started to sort through the basket of snacks, the woman settling on a crisp apple to start with as she patiently waited for the others to get hungry for their actual lunch later.

"Honestly? I could imagine them doing it." Noelani laughed at the thought before actually well pondering it. "What if we did help them? We could build a whole city, Ami!" She suggested with a playful nudge, the hybrid sneaking another pastry while Ami snacked on an apple. They worked so hard all the time with these treasure hunting excursions which burned energy and Noelani could never resist sweets, especially not these. Honestly, moments like these made her so happy that she had decided to go for the harder path since it had led her to someone like Ami and she wouldn't change it for the world. Though she did have to worry slightly when she noticed the pair of glasses as well. Did they need to look around the cove later, just in case?

Raff picked up the sandal and giggled. "I didn't take it off anyone's foot, if thats what you're thinking." She pointed out the algae that was just starting to grow along the edges of the straps. "Been in there a long time!" She loved finding things that had clearly been under the water for a while. It made it all the more magical in her eyes.
A grin rose. "A star tower! Cool!" She picked up the glasses to peer through the single lens, and the grin quickly fell. "Aww. Zoicite, the glass makes everything blurry. No one's gonna see the stars through this." Unfamiliar with how glasses worked, she just assumed it meant the glass was faulty and wouldn't work for anyone now.

Zoicite simply gave his sister a look as she held out the sandal, the youngling only shaking his head after a moment and moving on. Why would she even pick up that out of all things? Just seeing the algae on it gave him a slight shiver. He adored the ocean like the rest of his family but there were certain things that he....just didn't like to even think of touching. Shiny gemstones, rare artifacts and magical objects were the things that interested him the most not something that should be left to rot on the ocean floor.
"Well the lens doesn't work for everyone. It's usually unique." Zoicite explained with a soft laugh. "We can't live in the castle, but we can keep it there as a decorative piece just to make it look cool." He started to push around some sand, the boy making everything smoother where they were standing so that a base could begin there. "What do you think? This is far enough from the tide....we could start here and expand across the whole beach with a wall then build little houses inside." It would be a long project, but he was confident in their ability to make an amazing thing even if it took all afternoon!

"Oh my." Nanami laughed at Noelani's antics before giving a slight shrug. "I suppose we'll be getting ourselves covered in sand this afternoon then." She relented with a small smile towards Noelani, the Kawena swapping out a pastry that was closer to her companion for a dried vegetable rice cake. "But first a snack, then I can help gather some water and find another bucket or two." She could technically move the water in other ways but the others couldn't and it was only fair if she worked alongside of them. If it became evening and they needed to work faster then Nanami would probably work some magic to help finish things...but until then she was content to just play alongside of her family, doing whatever they wanted to build this little sand village.

Noelani's grin turned into a faint pout as she watched her pastry get snatched and replaced with something healthier. "I had a perfectly fine snack until now." She teased lightly before eating the vegetable cake anyways, it was dry so she did take a swig of water afterwards before finally standing. "Let's bring some to the children before they get completely covered with sand. I already see Zoicite hard at work." She mused with a chuckle, picking up a few of the vegetable cakes and some water for the children to enjoy. The pastries could come later, after they had worked for a bit longer.
"Zoicite, Raff!" Noelani called out as she walked across the beach towards the children. "Have something to eat before you get completely covered in sand. Are we building a castle and a whole town today?"

Her eyes widened with interest. "Really?" Raffrdeigh looked down at the glass with fresh awe. "So that means only certain people can see through it? It's probably made for someone special then! Someone meant to look at the stars." See? Magical! She took a few steps further into the sand to make a little space to place her findings for safe keeping until it was time to use them.
"Yeah! A good wall to protect everything. Our villagers need as much space as we can give them." Their mother's voice made her head perk up curiously. Then she broke out into a bright grin and ran over to jump at Noelani for a hug. "Yup! We're gonna have a star tower, too!"

Zoicite opened his mouth to further his explanation but then simply closed it and nodded. If Raff thought it was the case then so be it. How could he argue against her logic when she seemed so inspired by it? "So the star tower can be used by wizards with special vision." He added, already creating a story in his mind for this castle and the village that would go along with it. "Maybe they're like a great protector and can even guess the future based on what the stars show. I've read stories where sometimes big events happen after someone looks at the stars and talks about a hero and such!" Disasters, monsters, big historical events...there were so many fairytales and fables with stars leading the way that his mothers had shared with them. So this would have to be the fanciest tower and the biggest thing on the castle! They could probably make the lens the top and then have like shells or something decorating the outside of it with a guard tower even. Someone had to protect the wizard, surely they couldn't do everything on their own!
Zoicite's expression on brightened more as their mothers came over. Reaching up for a cake, the boy made a face before eating it. He was more accepting of vegetables at least but it was still disappointing when he knew that there were pastries hiding nearby. It still wasn't bad and was fairly tasty, he just asked for the water and drank a big gulp to make certain the drier pieces went down properly. "Are you really going to help build a town? If so then we need a lot of little houses that way while Raff and I start on the tower and the castle!" They had a bucket nearby and he could begin filling it with water, preparing to get the sand damp and ready to mold for this project.

At least Zoicite ate the cake without protest. Nanami's expression softened as she noticed their children's enthusiasm for this castle, the star tower especially made her happy considering how she always expressed how important the night sky was. There was a power within the stars, the brighter ones looking more like little worlds of their own with limitless potential....and Nanami could only imagine what must be in the skies beyond. She always felt a pull towards the ocean and one bright star in particular with a slight blue sheen that appeared in the sky only at certain times during the year. It was her favorite and one she always pointed out whenever they went star gazing as a family.
"I can help gather water then." She offered with a nod towards Zoicite, the Kawena leaving the tray of snacks and water flasks on the sand next to the children. "Care to not get sand in your rice cakes before eating them. We'll have some sweets and juice after the village is finished."

Scooping up her daughter for a quick spin and hug, Noelani twisted a final time before letting her back down on the sands. "Sounds like fun! We'll work on the outer walls and some houses then." She promised with a bright grin towards Raff and Zoicite. "You both better make an amazing tower and castle that the villagers are eager to defend." Noelani nodded towards Nanami, the pair picking up buckets and venturing towards where the ocean was crashing against the shoreline.
For a moment though she simply stood there, her feet slipping out of her sandals so that she could enjoy the feeling of the cool water as it washed over her skin. After being in the desert for so long it felt amazing to just have water around them again. Noelani adored exploring the world and finding ruins, but there was something about Matori which she would always love the most. Even Kahi with its beauty had still not filled the void that leaving Matori had left in her chest. It was and would always be her home, where her family and heart stayed. "We should go swimming later, if we have time." She mused quietly towards Nanami, the hybrid finally moving to scoop up some water so that they could begin helping out with this project.
