Languages: Language is very important to Zhiguang. As the sole survivor of his people—and a child of two worlds, being half-Helenian—he often struggles to express himself in any of the languages he has grown up speaking and reading. He hates the idea of putting someone else in a similar position by not knowing their language. He likewise hates the idea of missing out on important nuances by reading a text in translation. First, he needs to get reasonably fluent in reading twenty-first century English, and then, he wants to start taking as many language classes as he can.
Gossip: Zhiguang likes people and he likes knowing what’s going on in people’s lives. Sometimes, this just means asking you what you’re dealing with and listening to your problems. Far more often, though, this involves asking for the dish on other people and what they’re doing. No matter how inane and trifling, Zhiguang wants to hear about everybody’s petty interpersonal dramas. Gossip was strongly discouraged among his people, so he has also come up with a litany of plausible enough excuses for why he cares……but he also isn’t nearly as subtle as he thinks he is when he’s blatantly gossiping.

Passive: After spending so much time waiting for things to happen, Zhiguang has gotten used to waiting. Sometimes, he plays a long game and works toward larger goals in small, subtle ways……but more often than not, he waits, and waits, and waits, and does very little else. Things happen to him, he endures, but he doesn’t take any actions to materially improve his situation. This even comes out when he doesn’t need to wait: he dithers in situations he could easily resolve by making a decision and sticking to it, prolonging them indefinitely and exacerbating any potential fallout.
Credulous: Zhiguang is aware that there is evil in the universe and that some people are just cruel for no real reason, but he always wants to give people the benefit of the doubt. He accepts people’s sob stories, no matter how wild they sound, only scrutinizing them after someone’s behavior puts cracks in their façade. With apologies, the words “I’m sorry” are more important than any real indication that someone has learned better and intends to change. Fool Zhiguang once, shame on you. Fool him twice, shame on you again for taking advantage of his idealistic and trusting nature!
Sensitive: Zhiguang has a lot of feelings, and he regularly gets overwhelmed by them. On one hand, he is quick to internalize criticism, taking it to heart in ways that easily become less constructive than were intended. Trying to help him without tripping one of his emotional wires is often a delicate process. On the other hand, other people’s feelings cut him deeply and Zhiguang doesn’t always know what to do with that. He’s bad enough at processing and handling his own emotions, never mind anyone else’s. Setting better emotional boundaries would help, but Zhiguang doesn’t know how.
Petty: Zhiguang tries to live up to several high-minded ideals he was raised with, like forgiveness and letting go of grudges. Unfortunately, a lifetime of ignoring slights against him has made Zhiguang loath to let things go. He smiles and compliments people who hurt his feelings, but said smiles always have an edge and his tone of voice will be somewhat shady, not unilaterally positive. His passivity and sensitivity mean he rarely goes out of his way to hurt someone beyond passive-aggression. Yet, he indulges in schadenfreude far more often than his serene exterior might suggest.
