Iam was not a morning person, he never would be, but he knew he had work to do so he got up as he needed to and got to work. Working for Xander, as his security person, which meant wokring from home sometimes and sometimes being in there handling things. Today he was working from home and had his laptop, tucked unde rhis arm, as he shuffled into the kitchen to get some breakfast.
He had been trying to eat somewhat healthy, more so as of late, but it still wasn't always easy. This morning he went to grab himself a glass of orange juice while his laptop started up, grabbing two tomatoes on his way out of the fridge. He wasn't getting younger, something he didn't like to think about, and while he still looked several years younger than he was Ian certainly knew how old he was. Ian was nearly 29 years old, come September he would be that old, and he was trying to take better care of himself. Maybe part of the reason was seeing people he'd gone to high school with who looked to be in...less than good health. That might have been part of the kick to his a** which caused this.
Either way he was pouring himself a good sized glass of orange juice, tomatoes sitting on a plate waiting to be cut up into managable slices, as he logged into his work laptop. He'd gotten himself a dedicated work laptop with money he made taking up various odd jobs, some of those jobs being somewhat shady, he was at least glad he had a solid job now which paid well.
Putting the orange juice back in the fridge he returned toi the island counter top and took a seat so he could wake up and start checking on things. He could have done this all from the comfort of his room in the basement but once in a while the troll from the basement needed to come up and see the sunlight. He just didn't like to do that all too often and he felt a bit like a troll or a gremlin at this point really. It was a shock sometimes that no one else thought of him like that, or a third wheel to everything. He certainly seemed to stand out from the Jacob's family in his appearence, he was not only not related but a wonder that he fit in with them at all and lived here, he was different enough from them.

Nate yawned and stretched. He was sore and tired but that was to be expected since Dessie had dragged him over to her parents house the night before to ‘train’ but felt more to him like he was just a punching bag. He knew that's not what it was intended but it didn’t stop the feeling of sucking at it. Now he really understood why Dessie was able to knock a jock on his a** when he messed with her. She had been doing this for years. She knew what she was doing. He was still just learning. That's what he had to keep in mind. He was still learning. He needed to learn how to fight in order to protect himself and his family. Speaking of his family he knew that Dessie was sleeping in, and once she got up he suspected that she would go back to working out, and Sarah was currently being entertained by her cousins. The infant was well cared for in this house, as was Dessie. He really was the odd one out. The young man strolled into the kitchen while doing an overhead shoulder stretch, feeling the muscles stretching as he yawned once again. As he blinked away the sleep from his eyes he spotted movement out of the corner of his eye, “Bloody hell,” he muttered as he suddenly dropped his arms and faced the person that he had apparently walked in on munching on their own breakfast. “Oh um, sorry about that. Didn’t mean to interrupt-” he had to pause as he yawned again, this time covering his mouth out of politeness.

Spotting someone coming into the kitchem Ian lifted his head and sated for a moment. New person...ok. A quick check of everyone heknew and he realized who this had to be. "Dessie's other half, right?" He questioned as the otehr was apologizing for something, what the hell was he apologizing for?
"Overly polite Brit's." Shaking his head Ian ran his fingers through his raven colored hair and yawned as well. "Pretty damn sure you can do as you like and you aren't interupting anything." Rolling his eyes he took a large slice of tomatoe and shoved it into his mouth. He really should have some better table manners but he also wasn't one who cared for such, not really anyway. He had some basic manners but not as much as he should perhaps. "We're both down here for breakfast, and I'm working a bit." he was really just checking over things and making sure nothing had happened over night, at least for now.
Anyone who looked at Nate and Ian would see how opposite they looked and against the whole Jacob's family it was Ian who stood out but he was ok with that. He was good with his looks and comfortable in his clothing and in his body, even if he was still on the fairly slender side for someone nearly thirty.

A dark brow rose at the ‘brit’ comment but he kept his thoughts to himself, after all Nate was the one who stumbled in and interrupted the fellow’s breakfast. What food there was. Instead he just nodded and introduced himself, “Yes, if she will have me that is.” It was still a bit of a work in progress as far as he was concerned but he was fairly certain that they would get there eventually. “Nate. Nathaniel Whitfield. And you are,” He had to pause there as he racked his brain. He had been introduced to multiple people and told about quite a few others so placing a name to the face was taking a moment. “Ian? Correct?” He honestly wasn’t sure but it was one of the few names without a face that he really recalled that also came with the information of being a resident in the house. More like a mini mansion truthfully. He might have suspected the financial situation when they were in college but Dessie seemed so damn down to earth. It wasn’t until he followed her to the states that being presented with it was a bit of a shock. She really didn’t need him. He still wasn’t going to give up. With that in mind he made his way over towards the fridge to see what he could fix for his own breakfast. Orange juice and some eggs were what he turned up with. “Would you like some sunny side up eggs?” He needed to find the pans and all the things he needed but at least he had the start of a decent way to break his fast. That and maybe a way to ingratiate himself to another member of the family, after all it never hurt to have more friends who could help him win Dessie over.

"I'm sure she will. If she wasn't going to have you...you'd know." Dessie was rather strong willed, in his opinion of course, and she would let someone know if she didn't want them around. "Yeah, I'm the family member who isn't a family member but was allowed to stay here." Because he'd needed a place and then it just sort of stuck somehow, he still honestly wasn't sure how that worked out but it did.
"Make it two egg whites and I'll take it. I don't care for the yoke, I find the heavier egg taste comes from there and I'm not a fan." The whites he could handle, the taste didn't come off as strong to him, so he tended towards that or using milk to cut the taste if he did scrambled eggs.
"How do you like lit here so far? The house and in this country?" He'd never been anywhere else, even though he'd had the chance, so he figured he might as well ask someone what they thought of being in a whole new country. He imagined it was different in a fair amoutn of ways.

Nate just chuckled and added, “Don’t I know it. Still, though.” He was still not living with her, not in any official relationship with her, and ultimately he wanted to marry her but she was still rather pissed with him. It wasn’t his fault but that didn’t seem to matter all that much. His mother had quite a lot to answer too. “Yes, my family has had a few of those a time or two as well. Family is family regardless of blood relation.” Granted his great uncle Jim was only around for a few months before he got arrested again, not that Nate was going to tell Ian that. “Certainly, any allergies I should keep in mind?” He asked even as he rustled up some herbs, spices, and general cookware. He had spotted some cheese in the fridge as well but decided that egg whites and american cheese was best as a combo chosen by said eater, he personally was going to pass on it himself. Especially since his own eggs were now going to have two extra yolks in it, waste not want not and all that. The young man quickly cracked and separated the eggs. He added salt to both, as well as some herbs, moreso in his mix then Ian’s, and only in his did he add some of the mixed spices he spotted. Rapid whisking brought quite the froth to the egg white mixture, he didn’t even lose a lot of the volume when he transferred it to a lightly oiled pan on the burner. Keeping an eye on the mass, gently starting to form the mass of scrambled eggs, Nate chose his words rather carefully as there was no point in antagonizing his perspective in-law. “The country has its problems but what country doesn’t.” The amount of guns was still a head scratcher for him but then again considering some of the things they had to deal with Nate could almost understand. “As for the house, it is quite an eye opener. Much larger than I expected.” Much, much larger. It was rather intimidating especially considering his current income, one that was struggling to pay his own meager apartment and bills let alone being of any real assistance to Sarah and Dessie. “Overall there were things I would prefer to change,” Like the reason he needed to learn to fight now, “But since Dessie and Sarah are here I don’t need anything else.” His girls, his world, his very heart. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them. A few deft moves had the mass of soft and fluffy scrambled egg whites plated and passed to Ian while his own mixture was added to the pan to begin their own process of becoming a yummy breakfast.”

"No, no allergies." At least none that he was aware of, and he could be a bit adventerous with his foods. He went to dive bars and clubs and most had some sorts of food for people to nibble on, while they listened to live bands and the like. He liked to try whatever was on the menu, at least once, just to expand the sorts of foods he would eat. He got bored of eating the same things over and over so he needed new things, because eating got boring and thus was avoided at times. Maybe it was, in part, why he still maintained a fairly small frame?
"I'll agree with that, everywhere has issues, some more obvious than others, it's a shame when people don't admit to them though. Considering everhwere has them...I don't see why someone should deny them." Shrugging as he spoke, typing at his laptop with his free hand, his other one being puit to use with feeding himself. "I do wish those in charge of various governments would remove their heads from atheir asses and get to solving some of the bigger issues we face, globally speaking, but people are people...and thus we're all screwed it seems." So they all did the best they could and got by, just as he did, and that was how lofe went on. They were all little gears and cogs in some big machine which screwed them all over.
"Yeah, this place is huge. I didn't realize it would be when I first moved in, Xander invited me to move in, and thankfully the space has kept me from becoming some sort of a burden. Now I work for Xander and it's a bit better feeling." he didn't feel muc like a freeloader now...just a third wheel. But he really didn't fancy the idea of living alone either...
"Thanks." Nodding to his egg whites as his fork moved towards the food so he could take a bite.
"Mmm, it's good." Normally he didn't add herbs to it, on occasion he would, but ti was good. Something he should do more often really.

“‘If ifs and ands were pots and pans’ as my granny once said.” Nate just shrugged and plated up his own breakfast, adding a glass of OJ to go with it. “Things might be easier if said heads were extracted from said asses but sadly it's all about power and image. Not much we can do about it.” Although maybe there is… now, he mentally mused as he took a bite of his own egg mix. If he understood what Dessie explained to him about this whole nonsense conspiracy theorists are actually kind of right. The world is being run by Lizardmen, only they weren't lizards nor were they aliens, not really. They were a cabal of paramilitary personnel with weapons, powers, and monsters at their beck and call. They controlled the world with a secret yet iron fist, everywhere but here in this batty town. And according to Dessie he was now part of the ‘resistance’... like he was in some kind of movie or the like. It was ridiculous! Straight up bizarre! He was no hero. He was no fighter. He had no choice. Not if Dessie went out to fight. Nate would do everything in his power to protect her, and their daughter, even if it meant learning how to do so. With that mental verdict he chowed down, humming as he noted that he added a bit too much ginger to his mix. Nothing that was excessively overpowering but enough that he would need to tone it down the next time he used it in eggs. “Being a burden is definitely something I’m still working on but I’m still glad that Dessie has you all to fall back on.” He just wasn’t making nearly enough to support his little family, he just needed to work harder. At everything.

"I doubt you are a burden of any sort. Again, if you were Dessie would have said it. She's not the sort to be subtle about things. She says what she means and doesn't hold back either." At least not if Dessie was the same as she'd been before leaving for England. She wasn't some soft and dainty female who let people step over ehr. She didn't hold back and stood her ground rather well.
"I'm likely the only burden here and if for no other reason than lack of attachment to anyone inthe family. He was a friend, at least he'd assume so, and now an employee but family - no. Significant other - no. He wasn't a stranger but he had started out as such really. His own place in this home had been percarious, to say the least, for a while at least in his own mind. "I'm more glad that Dessie has a family..a loved one and a child. She has a real family." Which was better than what she'd once had. He was very glad for her, for how much better her life had gotten. She deserved it really.

Nate just shrugged and continued to eat, as much as Ian had a point about Dessie it didn’t lessen his own feelings of inadequacy. He grew up with the thought that he needed to take care of his family. He had to provide for them, protect them, and be the ‘man of the house’ but right then he was doing none of those. Dessie was more ‘the man’ then he was especially now but he was working on it. He might not be the best, nor would it happen over night, but he would get there one day. He would be the one that she could lean on. The shoulder she could cry on. Eventually. “Pot, kettle,” he indicated them both with his forkful of eggs before eating it. This was his reply to Ian’s comment about being a burden. Once he swallowed and took a swig of juice he followed up with a, “The Jacobs in general don’t strike me as overly tactful. If they wanted you gone they would have said so…. Likely more polite than anything Dessie would say but the statement still stands.” Besides he remembered the description Dessie gave of him when counting everyone in her family, ‘kind of like a brother’. Pretty sure that made him family, even if he didn’t really think so. A few more bites had him finishing his food, quickly followed by the juice. Breakfast was a respite but he also knew now that he really needed to learn how to fight, more than just bar brawling at least. So he should at least try to get some exercise in before he was reminded to do so. With a sigh he got up and dealt with his dishes, both the ones he ate off of and the ones he cooked with, before turning back to Ian. “Well, I won’t take up any more of your time. It was nice to finally meet you. I should go check on Sarah before getting a workout in so if you will excuse me.” He gave his farewells before heading out of the kitchen, only pausing once to add, “Until next time Ian,” and leaving the space altogether. Absently wondering if Dessie was awake yet Nate made his way towards his daughter while thinking about the blonde that was hopefully still asleep.

"Yes, I do believe we have a case of pot meeting kettle. Though you should feel less a burden than I do. You are family really." Even if he'd not married Dessie yet, which he was certain would happen in time, the other was the father to her child. Rolling his eyes as he finished his breakfast and eyed his laptop for a moment, fiddling with something.
"You are right though, if they shared the same feelings they'd have asked me to leave inthe most polite manner possible. Likely they'd even offer to help me in some way. They are too good." And had far more tact than Dessie did, which he could appreciate about her. He rather liked that she was blunt and honest, at least you never had to guess where you stood with her.
Nodding as the other got up and made to leave, he understood the others need to check on his daughter before doing other tasks, he watched the other go. He certainly seemed a good fit especially for Dessie, a calmer personality. He'd balance out her temper he wagered...but he'd not seen it yet, he was sure he would. He was, as far as he knew, the only non-senshi and non-knight in the family...thankfully most of the family kept out of such buisness now. That was good for Nate...it was safe.
Clearing his plate and handling things he headed back to his room to get some early morning work done.Fiction1119 Done for me. We can work on more if you'd like. Can even offer Alexandre since he's close to the Jacob's family. Whatever you want.
