Brooklyn had found an absolute gold mine. Well, not a gold mine, not really. But one this sweet old couple that she had raked leaves for and shoveled snow for over the winter had called asking for some help in cleaning out their garage and some of their spare rooms, as well as helping to run a garage sale, and it had kept her busy over the last few weeks, but had kept her in some money. The garage sale was going to be next weekend, and she had a small stack of flyers stuffed into her new backpack that Miss Betty had given her. Plus, she was wearing a new dress too…new to her at least, though. The very fact that she had been given these things was nothing short of a miracle.
It was a beautiful soft blue lolita dress, complete with a pair of white mary janes and opaque white stockings, and Brooklyn truly felt like a princess.
She would be able to wear this to the zoo and wouldn’t end up looking like some kind of hooligan with Talia and Talia’s boyfriend and that…
That was a good thing!
Hastening to the spot that she was supposed to meet Julian, Brooklyn thought about her good luck, and thought about maybe asking if Julian wanted to help with the garage sale next week…money was helpful all around, right? And Talia said that he went to Hillworth, so money would be good regardless.
Spotting a boy with blonde hair on the bench near the swings, the place that Julian had texted that he would be, Brooklyn waved. “Hi! Are you Julian? I’m so sorry that I’m late, I had a job today helping clean out a bedroom and we went a little long when they started giving me things! I’m Brooklyn!”
She held out her hand, absolutely beaming.
…And if this wasn’t Julian…no harm was done. Hopefully.

Julian had made himself a bit nervous about all of this, but he tried to put on his best face because he was determined to fake it til he made it.
It might take a while.
He didn’t know what to expect from Brooklyn, but when she arrived she really didn’t look like his idea of a St. Mags girl. Her clothes were too colorful and she seemed too chipper for that. It was enough to bring a smile to his face.
“That’s okay. I don’t mind, it’s a nice day.” Even if he hadn’t been swinging, he was still enjoying what a nice day it was. He took her hand and gave it a quick shake. “I am Julian, yeah. It’s nice to meet you.”

Brooklyn beamed and crossed the distance between the two of them. “It’s a beautiful day! So, do you want to chat here or can I take us for a cheap, but yummy lunch dinner thing? Have you eaten?” She was itching to go back to that diner that the Dark Mirror Senshi had taken her to…and now that she had a crisp fifty dollar bill in her ice cream purse…and honestly, she wanted more chicken fingers and another one of those milkshakes.
“If you don’t want to go and eat, which I get, I am a stranger and stranger danger, then we can just chat here and I can get food after! But, I recommend trying this place, they have like eighty milkshake flavors and they’re all astounding. And it would be nice to get used to my new friend as just…you and me before we put a magical spin on it, you know? But we will get to that, Talia said that you want to learn how to get to your place? I totally get that too, and I can help! I think. I mean, it’s gotten me to mine so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for you!”

“...Stranger danger? I don’t think that counts, Talia said really good things about you.”
And, she was a Lysithea Knight too, right? It was less that he didn’t want to eat and more that he didn’t want to take advantage of her, especially because he knew she more or less was out here taking care of herself on her own.
“Um, that sounds good. I have a few dollars.” Not a lot, but he carried a few for emergencies, and even if he had a light snack earlier, he wanted Brooklyn to be comfortable while they met. Also, he wanted her to like him, and not think he was boring and no fun.
“Maybe we could get lunch and talk some and then you could tell me a little about it? I haven’t, um. Done any Knight things since I awakened. I was trying to take it slow and get comfortable first. I’m not really a big fighter or anything. But I really want to go visit my Wonder. Lysithea was beautiful.”

“Psh! I just earned a lot with cleaning, I want to treat you! I never get to treat my friends to anything since…I never really have money! I promise it’s worth it, I went the other night and had a dark chocolate cheesecake milkshake with strawberries and the most amazing chicken tenders! I would love that!”
Reaching out, she took hold of his hand again, tugging gently. “I would love to visit your Wonder with you if you’d have me! I went not too long ago so I have to wait before visiting again, but I’d love to have you at mine too! It’s a castle, like a for real fairytale castle and there is this lawn filled with thistles and it’s…it’s really beautiful. I want to explore and make it better, like fix it up and all that and…I mean. I had wanted to move in there this summer so I didn’t have to go back to my foster family but. That’s not going to happen so I’ll just have to suck it up! As you do.”
Brooklyn made a face and shrugged, still far too elated with her dress and the other gifts to really let anything bring her down.

Julian didn’t have it in him to argue or deny her when she seemed so enthusiastic, so he sheepishly rose from the swing and let her pull him up and forward.
She’d already given him plenty to consider–she was generous, treating him to lunch. She had a foster family. He glanced up at her for a second when she said it but didn’t comment on it. He nodded, though.
“Yeah,” he agreed. “I’d like the company. I didn’t want to go up alone. Especially since I don’t know how to get there, or back. If you could come, that would be really great. After lunch, if you wanted?”
The more she spoke about her Wonder, the more he wanted to see that, too. “I’d like to see yours, it sounds amazing.” He hoped his was nice, so badly.

“Yes! That sounds utterly amazing!” Grinning broadly at him, she tugged Julian towards the diner, already anticipating how good those chicken tenders were going to taste and oh! Maybe they could split the fried pickles too, that would be tasty.
“There’s no point in going to space on an empty stomach, it’s always good to eat or bring food with you, just in case, that’s my motto…I just made it up, but that’s my motto anyway!”
Brooklyn decided that it was a good motto, and she liked it. For now though, for now they would eat, get to know one another and then they would go and visit…whatever he said his Wonder was. And all would be well!
