It was, perhaps, the perfect spot to emerge from a mirror. The space of the thicket was enough to ensure he could step through without snagging his hair. The flowering vines created a softness to the atmosphere, enhanced by the way moonlight filtered through their leaves, dappling his fair skin with a cold touch of mystery. So the place was perfect, despite, well...likely helped by rather, the fact that it was in one of the older Destiny City cemeteries.

So the only real problem was the mirror, but it couldn't be helped! This sort of scenic location just could not be marred by some cheap little Ikea minimalist frame! It need to be real wood! It needed to carved! It needed to be lush and fancy and aesthetic! Which of course meant...it needed to be heavy.

And so it was that Hybris, stepping out of a mirror already located at a nearby park, was pathetically trying to move a massive mirror, framed in shining walnut and ornately carved bat motifs. With his current strength it...actually wasn't that hard? But the effort involved tired him thoroughly in spirit, if not in body.

He was in the middle of his third rest, sprawled dramatically against a horse statue, when he felt the power signature approaching. He wasn't sure what it belonged to, but all the unfamiliar signatures he'd felt so far had all passed by him without stopping. of course, those had always occurred when he was in a crowded club, not out and alone in the open.

Stirling was still puzzling over her powers and why they weren’t working right…twice now, once with Muri, and once with her bestie Casablanca…the shield that had stopped both Mizuki and that other crazy b***h hadn’t done anything to them…so why? Did it need time to charge? Was it the fact that they were her friends? That…

Was an angle she hadn’t really explored before. It could have some merit.

Coming upon an aura that felt like Muri…only weaker, she saw a dark clad figure…struggling to pull what looked like a giant mirror…and…

…okay.

Stranger things had been done, she was sure but. This one was at the top of the list for the night.

“Oi. You. Help me with something and I’ll help you carry that wherever it is that you’re going. Not sure the point of it but, I’ll help. I’m not buff or beefy but I’m strong. Stronger than you I bet.” Grinning, Stirling crossed her arms over her chest. “What do you say?”

Hybris clutched the horse's leg and proceeded to look even more helpless at the offer. "Oh...I'm sure you're so much stronger than me. I have a condition," he trailed off with a sigh. "Nothing fatal...simply chronic."

Slowly he got up and looked at the girl, young, definitely not legal, a child so he didn't look too closely after that. Giving her a smile, "What did you need help with?" He hoped it was something simple, like taking a picture with him. Maybe it was a school thing? If it was math, he'd just call Lenka. Oh! Oh...could it be some kind of prank?

Oh, so he was a drama queen…that was fine, Stirling could handle a drama queen. “OKay, I need you to attack me. Physically, like, rush me. Try to punch me, whatever whatever. I have to test something and I don’t know you so hopefully it will work and I’m not just defective. If I am defective I’m going to be really pissed.”

Hopefully if that was the case, Lysithea would know what to do…but she wouldn’t know what to do right now...she wasn’t well right now and…ugh.

“Just. Suck it up and come at me, okay? And then we’ll move your mirror and go on with our nights.” Drawing her dagger she nodded at the Dark Mirror Senshi to go ahead when he was ready.

Dismay. Disgusting. Sulking. Hybris put his fairly respectable talent for acting into making sure each and every bit of these emotions was on clear display at her request.

Didn't she realize how silly he would look trying to bully a teenage girl? Silly at best. And maybe she was stronger than him. Then he'd be silly with bruises.

After a few scoffing noises, Hybris gave a huffy sigh and then, with a muttered phrase, Stirling would hear her own voice giving a bratty, "Fine."

She was then treated to the sight of herself pretending to pick her nose and flick a booger over. Suddenly, "Stirling" charged Stirling, trying to give her a good solid shove.

illusion: with a sweep of his hand, Hybris takes on the exact appearance of one target for the duration of his magic. Mainly used for distraction and confusion. He cannot change his energy signature but will appear as an exact replica of his target. As a perfect reflection of them, he can mimic their voice, but he cannot mimic any magic.

duration: 30 seconds

Well. Of all the things Stirling was expecting…watching herself run at her after picking her nose wasn’t…well. Wasn’t even in the top three hundred things she was expecting, and it took far too long to slash her dagger through the air between herself and the…other her, and when the shield sprang to life…

The fake Stirling crashed into it.

“Oh! Oh s**t! It worked this time!”

The relief in the Squire’s voice was overwhelming, and her knees nearly buckled from underneath her. “...It’s back to working…”

Lizbot
Stirling holds her dagger in her hand and slashes through the air, a whimsical shield of ten feet by ten feet manifests five feet in front of where she slashed. The shield is translucent so she can see through it; only those she trusts can pass through it. Those she does not trust will be met with a solid wall to protect against physical attacks. The shield will move with her and will always stay five feet in front of her; it will pass through solid objects and will only be solid when it comes into contact with someone she doesn’t trust. She can use it to push back at her enemies but it can do blunt force damage if a player chooses. Stirling can channel her magic for forty five seconds at this stage.

Oh thank god the knife just does magic. For a very brief moment, Hybris has been worried that the slash might do something actually slashy. Instead he just bounced off some kind of forcefield.

In a dramatic swirl of fabric and...well, more fabric, quite a lot of fabric in fact, "Stirling" fell to the the ground. Hat fallen, skirts askew, hair tousled prettily in a way that couldn't be intentional but seemed photo-ready, "Stirling" stared up at herself with big accusing eyes that were on the verge of tears.

"My ankle..." her bottom lip wibbled pathetically.

Stirling glanced back over at…herself and snorted, her lips curling into a sneer. “You’re a pathetic actor. I’m not, nor have I ever been that stupid looking. Come on, you helped me out, I’ll help with your mirror, but don’t slack off or I’ll slit your throat. I do have a knife.”

…A dull knife. That couldn’t cut but. Hey. Threats worked sometimes, right?

And this guy liked jokes. He was tryign to make her into one so…she could give as good as she got…it worked out in the end…and her magic was working again too so…

…Now the real issue was what caused it to stop working to begin with…

Stirling's form and features faded back into that of a teenage boy, but he stayed laying there. "I did help you out, and at the expense of my body too." He rolled over on to his stomach, legs up like he was reading a magazine in bed and not talking to whatever enemy in whatever war people thought they were having.

"You didn't even say please or thank you." Another huge sigh. "Not even a hand up, just threats and knives. You must be one of those agents, right? I heard they wore black but seeing is believing after all."

The fact that she didn't follow up his fall with another attack and instead seemed willing to stick to her world to help him had really done away with any brief sense of threat she'd managed, leaving his impression of her as that of a cute kid in a giant poofy princess dress and hat. Rude and absolutely deserving of further teasing.

“Okay…please let’s get your junk moved so I can go home and figure out what’s wrong with me and why my magic worked with you. Thank you.”

Stirling didn’t even bother to comment on his insinuation that she was an agent...that. That was far too low of a blow and she wasn’t going to deal with it…though. If he kept this up, she’d help with carrying the mirror right up until he picked it up too and then let it drop right on his crap lousy foot.

“Don’t see why you had to make a spectacle of it and pretend to be me though. The magic was kind of neat. What are you the Senshi of?”

Much better. Limberly hopping onto his feet, clearly not injured in the least, Hybris patted the dirt off his uniform. "Oh, I'm Hybris, Dark Mirror Senshi of Eggplants." It was less out of actual secrecy that he claimed this, and more because he decided a garden theme was more fitting out of some vague sense of loyalty to Lenka.

"And I just can't help but be a spectacle." He gave a shrug, such was life for beautiful magic men, after all. He gestured to the very large, very fancy mirror. "Don't worry it won't need to go too far into the graveyard."

Taking one end of the mirror, he asked mildly, "So magic can go wrong?"

“Anything can go wrong if you’re as stupid as we seem to be. Mr. Eggplant Emoji. Seems like you’re trying to overcompensate. Adults are so gross.” Stirling helped him carry the mirror, picking up her side with almost minimal effort…god the strength she got being Stirling was…kind of amazing.

“You better watch out or it’ll happen to you and you’ll most likely end up stuck as someone ugly. Get warts and be three and a half feet tall. Seems like it would be your worst nightmare, Goblin Eggplant.”

He had nothing to do with eggplants, and she wasn’t stupid, but if that was what he wanted to be known for. Let the names begin.

"If I turned into an eggplant goblin, I would be the most attractive eggplant goblin to ever grace this world and whatever other worlds are out there," Hyrbis declared with complete confidence. Oh, she was strong. How nice!

"Everywhere you went, it'd be Oh wow, goblins are so hot right now. Especially that eggplant one with the good hair." He said in a soft voice that wasn't an exact copy of her own, like he'd shown with magic, but was still weirdly close.

"Anyway, it's not the face I wear that's attractive, though mine is really, really ridiculously good-looking," he clarified modestly. "But how I wear it." It was fun, really, to wear a lot of different sorts of faces, even before being magically enabled. Still, he was very attached to his own. The thought of actually having it scarred earlier left a severely disturbed thought that he'd immediately banished away to the same mental dungeon where any deep or unpleasant thoughts were left to rot.

"So what are you? Besides very strong and stabby in twenty pounds of fabric, that is?"

Stirling snorted and shook her head, half amused and half thinking that maybe she could just drop the mirror on his foot to teach him a lesson in not being so full of himself, but she didn’t, and she continued helping him move it. “I’m Stirling, Squire of Lysithea and I’m amazing, you forgot that part. “

Grinning, she watched the Dark Mirror Senshi for a moment. “But, you won’t forget it again, I’m sure. Now, Eggplant Goblin King, Tell me that we can put this down, because I’m late for something very important.”

And that important thing was not carrying this dumb mirror.

"You are amazing," he agreed easily and beamed at her for being a great little worker, even if she was a brat. A strong brat who offered to lift things for him was always better than less useful, if more pleasant, people.

"Ooohhh...do you have a date?" He gave her a quick once over, taking in her presumed Date Night expression and then politely looked away. "Well, good luck! And watch out for that flower pot...we're just about..."

He trailed off in a very brief moment of having an Actual Thought and then said, "Well, I guess you can set it down here." There was a gusty, tired sigh, "I suppose I should keep mirror locations a secret. You're one of the good but not-good-for-me guys right?"
