Arsenolite needed to distract himself. He knew going out and collecting energy probably wasn't very becoming of a General, but... He really couldn't find much else to do, right now. He was still... all messed up from Monoceros turning tail and fleeing, despite the Negaverse giving him everything—and he refused to let himself dwell on it. Paperwork only got him so far in being distracted.

So, out... collecting energy. Keeping an eye on baby Agents. Speaking of... There was someone over there collecting energy... and then rooting through the pockets of the drained guy. Heh. Well, a little petty theft wasn't so bad. Curious, he followed at a distance, watching the guy knock another civ out and... frantically go through the civ's pockets, cursing them out for only carrying credit cards.

... Was this guy in some sort of trouble? He was in the Negaverse. Why didn't he contact someone for help? That's what the Negaverse was there for.

"How you doing?" he asked, dropping in right next to the Agent.

Asking for help kind of sucked, but Niter had to admit to himself that he was probably the most helpless person on the planet when it came to basic human needs, like holding down a job and paying for his own apartment. What was most galling about that was the fact that Even with help, Niter was struggling. And that meant Niter had to keep breaking the law just to get by.

He didn't like rifling people's pockets, but it was getting easier. Maybe it was one of those things that people just had to get used to, which gave him an entirely different view of rogue classes in all the games he'd ever played. What was worse, though, was that most of the people he'd come across that night had credit cards, and Niter wasn't the savvy tech sort that could do anything with that. So it was one resigned sigh after another as he scooted through the night.

Until a General approached him, and Niter about leapt out of his own skin thinking they were a cop. He sprung up like a weed, nearly fell off balance, and took a hot second to ascertain that he was, in fact, talking to a General and not a cop.

"U-um, I'm fine? Everything's fine." Niter stammered, trying to remain respectful by not looking at the General directly.

"You sure?" he asked, casually nudging the drained guy with his boot and lifting a disbelieving brow. "Seems like you need some kind of help, man."

Hm. He had a spare room. Maybe if Niter had a place to stay... he wouldn't need to waste money on rent? And the bunkers were... fine... But he couldn't fault anyone for not wanting to live in them. Especially if you were just a Lieutenant and needed someone to be your physical ******** key lock to get in the place.

"I may not be your General, but I am one, so it's my duty to help you," he said after that long moment of thought. "What do you need?"

Niter seemed like he needed help? Then he was worse at hiding it than he thought. And he couldn't exactly lie and say that he was doing it for fun, because it probably didn't look fun if he looked like he needed help. Maybe if he was less anxious, and didn't care about following societal rules, it'd actually be fun.

Niter sighed, shoulders dropping under the burden of disappointment. There was no use holding up the ruse now.

Once the Negaverse senshi rose to his feet, he kept his head low and answered as succinctly as he could. "Um. Ch- cheaper rent or a better job, probably." Those seemed like the most obvious solutions to him, and the ones that should've been the easiest. "I'm working on it." Or he was trying to; there wasn't a lot that one person could do for their own fate when they had to rely on things like other people hiring them, or other people moving out of a cheap place and then the landlord deciding to keep it cheap, and…

Yeah, he definitely felt his own inability to fix the problem.

Yup. Of course the issue was rent. ********' landlords. Not even Arsenolite could respect that hustle—utterly disingenuous, rotten scum types.

"How's half of utilities and groceries sound for 'rent'?" he asked as he lay a hand on Niter's shoulder and squeezed. "I own a house, man. Feels a little empty ever since—"

His breath caught. Ever since Monoceros had left. Sure, more often than not, towards the end, 'Ceros had stayed with Ashanite (and Arsenolite was NOT jealous!!!), but the house still felt like it had his presence in it.

Not anymore.

He coughed to cover up the pause in his words, shaking his head. "I wouldn't mind not being alone anymore."

Niter jumped when he felt a hand touch his shoulder, but otherwise stayed where he was. He felt stunned for a response; like he knew the Negaverse could be generous, and it sounded like there was some trauma the dude was trying to sidestep and Niter could respect that, but like… That was a place to live. And he only had to pay groceries and utilities? Which meant he wouldn't have to work nearly as much as he was already doing, and he could get by, and maybe even save money for things again?

It sounded too good to be true. Like, there had to be some catch somewhere. Maybe this General was a hoarder? Which felt disrespectful to think about, so maybe… The house was falling apart? It had no cat5 wiring? Or he'd have to patrol twice as much or something? He didn't know. He just didn't want to think that there was no catch.

Then he might get too comfortable. The Negaverse didn't seem to like that too much?

"Um, are you sure? I can be kind of messy." His little sister would remind him of how much of an understatement that was, but she wasn't here to make him look bad right now. "But if, um, if you're sure?"

Arsenolite appreciated the fact that Niter didn't ask any questions. Well, beyond the obvious, but that seemed to be one of those weird anxious-people problems. Always asking if people were sure before they accepted a favor. Tch. At least ask what the catch is! What's in it for Arsenolite, huh? Ask that, Lieutenant Niter!!

... Though he was truly happy that the question didn't get asked, because then he'd have to come up with something that sounded less lame than ******** "companionship". Ugh, what was he, a My Little Pony? Friendship is magic!!

Ew.

"I'm sure," he said, dropping his hand. "You need a place, I've got room. Those barracks suck." He shrugged. "It's no problem to me, unless you, like, listen to scream-o music on max volume out loud at 3AM or something."

"Um… No? That's when I'm playing League. With headphones on. And I don't voice chat," Niter added, in case he was concerned about yelling or swearing.

Niter had never had a roommate before. He knew people who had gone through a lot of roommates in the past, but all of those people were people he couldn't contact as Niter, so he was kind of on his own and had to try to remember what sorts of things they looked for in another roommate. The problem was, when they droned on about how much their last roommate sucked, Laike generally tuned them out and gave out a perfunctory uh-huh now and again. So what was it they were after…

Cleanliness? That never bothered him. And parties weren't that big of a deal, since he had noise-canceling headphones and generally stayed in his room. They were both in the Negaverse, so there's no crazy secrets there (unless the guy was dating someone from the White Moon, but that wasn't his business).

That was about all he could think of on the spot.

But he did have one pressing concern: "Can I bring my plants?"

Plants? Huh.

Well, he lacked in house decor. Why not?

"Yeah, man. Here's my number, you can put me in under Emmett. Just give me a call when you're ready to get your stuff moved in," he said, scribbling his name and number on some scrap paper. "I'll help you get stuff in a UHaul or whatever."

This was… Niter didn't know how to respond. He accepted the paper, stared at it, an nodded slowly. "U-um, thank you," he added after a beat.

It was hard as nails to find people to help him move into his current place, and a Negaverse General was willing to go this far to make sure he had a place to live. Why hadn't more people joined the Negaverse? Did they just not advertise that they were willing to go the distance for their own? It was the only thing Niter could figure.

"I'll," he took a breath, "I'll do that. Um. I need to go… Process all of that. It's, like, um."

He couldn't say the word relieving without chancing tears, so he gave a short salute and excused himself in the shortest direction to his house.

He would process this. He would!! Over a naked level 1 challenge run of Dark Souls.
