She'd hurried up to complete the last of her chores so that she could go exploring. Inej liked knowing what was around the village. And sometimes even beyond it. Like today. She had plans to go outside the village wall to see what the forest held. Maybe if she was lucky she'd find some cabin or something out there with a magical person that had the answers she was looking for.
It was a lot to hope for but she really wanted to know where she'd been found as an infant.
Looking back behind her she scanned to make sure no on was watching too closely. When the first glance didn't show her anyone then she went as sneakily as she could to the crumbled hole in the wall so she could hop over it.

Beowulf had been dragged from his bed early so that he could shadow someone. Rather babysit them... He didn't really see why? They seemed to be the same-ish age that he was and he didn't need babysitting. Frowning as he stretched and dragged on some clothing. Scrubbing the sleep from his eyes and grabbing something to eat, Beowulf headed out of his home and to find his charge for the day. Coming to a crossroads he stopped and glanced around with still sleep deprived looking eyes.
"Now lets see, their guardian says they are always..." He stopped as he caught something hopping over a wall. Just perfect...
Pinching the bridge of his nose he headed off in the direction that his charge had gone. Hopping over the crumbling wall as Inej was a little ways a head of him. Beowulf didn't seen to be in any rush to really catch up, though it was on him that she had gotten out of the village in the first place.
"Will you get back here before we both get into trouble!" He called after the girl as he followed, eyes sweeping from side to side a bit. "Wouldn't want to take a corpse back to your guardian because I couldn't keep an eye on you... though that would be bad for me too. I would likely be tossed out and what not..." He muttered this last bit to himself before picking up the pace a bit.

She was enjoying the walk when she heard a voice call out to her and tell her to get back. It wasn't a familiar one though. So she was slightly confused by it. Inej stopped in her tracks long enough to glance behind her to see if the person was close. She saw their figure on her side of the wall and frowned. Had her guardian sent someone after her? Was it really so bad that she wanted to explore and learn about where she came from? The hybrid girl frowned a little. Looking around she found a larger tree to hide behind and so she moved over so that she wouldn't be immediately visible. Once there she waited for them to get closer. If it was someone sent for her then she didn't want to press her luck by going any farther and them telling on her. So she waited, leaned up with her back against the tree, her hands behind her and one foot up to rest on the trunk close to the grass.

Beowulf near trips over his own feet as he stumbled over a root that he hadn't seen. Cursing beneath his breath, he stops and looks around. Running a hand through his short hair with a sigh. Why did he have to be the one to watch this kid? Was his life filled with enough excitement as it was? "Now where did she go?" he muttered now looking around and not seeing where inej had gone. "Great, now I am the one that is to get into trouble." Pressing forward he looked around, not really seeing the hybrid behind one of the larger trees. In fact he had walked straight past her spot and stopped, groaning again wishing that he could just go back to his reading. While the books weren't really going anywhere, neither was he for that matter...

She heard him complain about getting into trouble and it made her turned her head to look at him as he passed by her completely. It was almost as if he couldn't see her. Inej moved one hand from behind her to grab one of the two pendants dangling from her waist. She wasn't aiming for a specific one but ended up with Dafiel's between her fingers. The hybrid girl rubbed her fingers over the smooth surface as she tilted her head and waited a bit longer. "Why would you be in trouble?" She finally asked when the boy stopped not too far from where she was leaning against the tree. Her position gave her a perfect view of him from behind but she hadn't gotten a good look at his face.

Beowulf ran a hand through his hair as he turned towards the voice. Jumping slightly as he did, not really paying much attention to where his charge had gone. Staring at this youth, one that was probably no older than himself. "I was put in charge of your safety. Something, anything happens I will be in trouble." he explained, "Then I am sure you would probably getting a talking to for wandering. Should we just go back?"Beowulf half turned as if to head back towards the area that they lived in. He half glanced also at Ijen expecting the her to follow him. "Or was there something that you were looking for out here?"

Put in charge of her? Then that meant that her guardian had hired someone to babysit her. Inej let out a sigh as she stared down at the ground. She really didn't want to get anyone in trouble simply because she was curious about the surrounding area. When she was asked if they should just go back she remained silent. Inej didn't particularly want to go back. She had set out today with the intent to discover something. Anything. Then he asked if she was looking for something. Slowly the hybrid girl shook her head. "Not really.. at least.. I couldn't tell you what it was." Her voice was soft as she spoke. "I just.. wanted to look around and see what there was."

The kid had looked away from him when he had mentioned that he had been put in charge of her safety. Frowning slightly he looked away, running a hand through still messy short hair. Really he had just rolled out of bed that morning and sent off to watch someone else's kid. Groaning slightly he turned back to Inej, "Looking around?" he asked quietly, again looking around. "I suppose we could look around, mind we stay close to the town?"It seemed like a simple thing? Perhaps if they remained within sight of the town they should be fine? Then again, there were probably other rules that forbade this girl to leave the town and its walls. In all Beowulf hoped that this would be a reasonable offer. "Oh yea, name's Beowulf." offered a hand in greeting, though was unsure how well this kid would accept it.

Staying close to town kinda defeated the purpose but she really didn't want to spend her time arguing or running from the boy. So Inej nodded a little. If he was to be her babysitter then it would be best if they were on good terms at least. "Alright. Can we walk around the town? On the outside of the wall?" She wouldn't find what she was after but it would at least give her a better idea of the layout. When he offered his name she took his hand, having to step toward him first. "Inej." She couldn't say it was nice to meet him because she didn't know how well their friendship was going to go, or even if it would be called that.

"So long as we stay close to the town. You never know what might be lurking out here." Beowulf said dropping his hand back to his side. "The dangers I have read about can be sneaky."He wasn't all too sure how else to mention it. There were traps out here meant for beasts, earthlings and well just about everyone else. He didn't want to fall into any of these traps, Dretch, he had read about were nasty sounding things. Scruffing his own hair, he tried to dismiss the rough images form his head. "Is there a reason you are out here?" he asked Inej as he turned to start heading down the outer edge of the wall surrounding home. "There doesn't seem to be too much out here besides trees, bugs and other flora and fauna."

Inej nodded her head but a small frown stayed in place. It was a half win but not enough to really let her look around. So with a sigh she headed back toward the wall. "Curiosity.." How did one explain that they wanted to find the place they were found as a baby? Just casually state 'oh, there's a hollow tree out here that I was found by.' Or 'just looking for a rock formation that some stranger discovered me bear as a baby.' It was a bit awkward. "I've never really gotten out to see things.."

Beowulf side glanced at Inej as she spoke of being curious about the outer world. The place beyond the walls of home. Really he hadn't even had much interest in leaving the safety of home. Perhaps it was time for he too to find something else to do with his life? Shaking his head and dragging a hand through his short hair he sighed. "Reading a good book can give you a look of what is out there." He said though knew that no book could answer the real questions one might look for. "Truthfully, I have never had the ambition to leave the walls. Too many books to carry if I did." He chuckled thinking of the near library he would have to try and haul around with him. He watched Inej as it seemed that she wanted to wander further away from the walls. Glancing around, there weren't that many faces watching. "If it helps we can widen the circle after the first round. So long as we know where home is and can return before the sun set." He paused feeling that this will be a bad idea. "I will accompany you further into the trees to explore the place." He was so dead, but Beowulf was willing to compromise to keep everyone happy.

She turned her head to look at him, a frown in place as she did so. Inej wasn't so sure if he really understood what she meant by exploring. "A book won't tell me what I want to know." Not unless someone had written in their diary about the day she'd been 'found.' Though she supposed if there was a map of the surrounding area then it might be a bit more helpful than nothing at all. As he suggested they could widen their area after the first go around she looked forward again. Her eyes squinted a bit before she finally nodded. "Alright, I can deal with that." Nothing wrong with getting to know the wall first. At least if she knew where each entrance was then they would be able to slip back into the village if they encountered something dangerous. Inej glanced toward Beowulf again. "Did you want to lead?" Or did he want to keep her within his sights?

Beowulf glanced at the kid that he was watching over. While he wanted to just usher them back into the village and towards safer things. It seemed they had a real reason to being outside the walls. Shaking his head a little he looked around at the trees, keeping an eye out for anything that might cause problems. "You can go a head, I will be behind you." He commented after being asked if he wanted to lead. Really he didn't, but he was willing to follow behind to make sure nothing snuck on up on them. "Besides, someone has to watch out behind us." Beowulf gave a motion for Inej to continue on. He figured that the next time that he was outside the walls he would have to bring a map or something to make one... To at least help with his training anyways... "You have no intentions of telling me why you wanted to come out here to explore. Do you?" he asked after a bit, watching Inej carefully.

With the okay to be the front she nodded her head and took a few steps before she heard him say that someone had to watch behind them. It made Inej wonder if he was just making sure she didn't run off when his back was turned. Not a bad thing really. He didn't know if she'd keep her word and stay close by or not. She was slowly making her way when she heard him say she wasn't going to tell him the reason she was out past the wall. Inej sighed a bit. "I just.. It's complicated. And embarrassing." What if she was made fun of for trying to figure out where exactly she'd been left as a baby? Or what if it made the boy tell her she was wasting her time? Those were real fears of hers. Then again he may be able to help. "I wanted to see if I could locate the hollow tree I was left in as a baby." He'd lowered her voice when she spoke this time. Almost as if wishing he didn't hear her.
