After spending the morning trying to figure out what to do with his free time Ujiri had thought he would be bored for the rest of the day. Luckily, however, he saw something, or rather someone, that would alleviate a little bit of that. None other than his grandfather.

Since he'd not seen the man in a while he figured he might be able to get away with bugging him for a little bit. Of course his grandfather looked the same as the last time he'd seen him. Maybe he could help the man change his appearance a little? A bit of ink in his hair? Change that red color to something else? Ujiri smiled a bit deviously to himself. Especially since he did have a small jar of ink in his bag. It wasn't much and he only had little less than half left in it but it would work.

So the young man walked quietly along, approaching Uquin, as he reached into his bag for the jar of ink he had. If he didn't get caught first then the plan was to splatter the ink all over his grandpa's hair.

After marrying Maritza, Uquin had settled down and raised their children in Belrea. That didn't mean he didn't visit the mainland as much as he could to visit his elder children, however. It meant that while he had a presence in his grandchildrens' lives, he wasn't a sturdy enough figure to be overly close to any of them - which was something he regretted, even if he wasn't quite sure how to fix it.

He didn't see Ujiri, in this case, so really there was nothing he could do to anticipate the prank that was coming his way. Having a missing eye made it more difficult to see out of his periphery, and so he ignorantly continued along, intent on gathering some things from the market. The hope was to prepare a little meal for his daughter's family, with his limited cooking ability, to try and ease the burden somewhat of having Uquin's family visiting.

Since there was nothing to stop him from putting the ink in his grandpa's hair he would succeed. Of course it wasn't much since the bottle had been previously used, leaving little less than half the contents to be used for the prank. Ujiri grinned at the fact that it had worked before he quickly hid the ink jar back in his bag and looked to the side as though he were not the culprit.

Oh so innocent he was.

Ujiri did his best to avoid glancing toward Uquin to see if the man noticed yet.

It wasn't that Uquin was unaware Ujiri was around. Far from it, he knew his grandson was loitering about the place somewhere - it was his home, after all. But the older man was invested enough that while he heard someone walking behind him, he didn't look to see who it was, merely hummed in quiet greeting then continued on, cataloguing ingredients.

At least, until he felt a tickle along his cheek and, with an irritated swipe at it, his hand came back wet. He leaned back and squinted at his hand which was now smeared with black ink.

He squinted up at the ceiling, but there was no stain above, indicating something had leaked from another level of the house. So he then turned around and looked at the other occupants of the room. Of which there was only Ujiri, though other children and grandchildren were floating about the home in different rooms.

"Ujiri." He called, simply, raising his eyebrows in silent question.

He looked at his grandpa with a bit of innocence as his name was called. "Yes?" Ujiri then offered a smile.

It wasn't hard to tell it was he who had gotten the ink on Uquin. Not just because he was the only one near the man, but because in his haste he'd gotten a bit of the ink on his hand. "Did you need help old man?" He teased a little. "Forget where something is?" Ujiri enjoyed poking fun at his grandfather for being old.

There was ink on the boy's hand. A long... long time ago, when he was only a father to Ujana and Padma, Uquin would have gone ballistic at such disrespect. ... It was one of the traits, however, that had driven Ujana away, and had kept her from reuniting with him after their separation. He was an old man now, mellowed out both by age and experience raising more children, and while he felt a flash of annoyance at the open disrespect, he didn't let his temper flare.

"I believe you have something on your face, young man." He lied, pushing himself up from his chair. He hoped, pettily, the boy would be silly enough to touch his face and smear ink there, but he didn't count on it. "Where does your mother keep the soap?" Because now he needed to try and wash the mess off both himself and his wayward grandson.

Something on his face? Ujiri furrowed his brow and brought his hand up to wipe at it but stopped just short of touching his face when he saw the ink on his hand. A loud tsk was given before he switched hands to wipe his face off, not sure what his grandpa could have seen. "It's in plain sight. Right there by the wash basin." He commented. "Should we worry you can't see now?" Ujiri teased the man.

A smirk formed on his face but he moved over to grab the soap for Uquin. "Here. " He waited for his grandpa to look at him before he tossed it at him.

Almost. Uquin allowed a small smirk to raise up, which was very much still present when Ujiri looked at him again; so when the boy lashed out again, Uquin was disappointed but not especially surprised. He snorted, turning to follow where Ujiri motioned. He stepped closer to it, though Ujiri was younger and, thus, faster and got there before he did. When he looked up, the soap bar went flying, and his attempt to catch it was slow enough that it hit his chest and fell, with a plop, into the basin between them.

This time, the annoyance was clear on his face, as he brushed a few pieces of waxy soap from his chest. "Oh good. You might as well wash your hands first then, since you're already up." He said, sharply, exhaling through his nose. "I'm surprised. I'd have thought your mother would hang you by your ankles as a youngling for being such a brat, Ujiri."

He watched as the soap fell from his grandpa not being able to catch and he gave a small laugh. "Aw, come on old man. I thought you were quicker than that?" When he was told to wash his hands first he gave a half roll of his eyes and moved to do just that.

"Huh? I'm not being that much of a brat. Did my aunts and uncles not play pranks on you?" He had to wonder how much fun Uquins younger kids were when they were younger if the old man had never had ink in his hair. "Mom would get us right back." Ujana would do revenge pranks.

Quicker once, maybe. Uquin let some of his frustration leak out of him as the boy moved to obey his instruction. He noted, with a sigh, that while most of the ink washed away, some of it remained soaked into the skin. It seemed Uquin himself was going to have a bit of a mark regardless, now that the prank had been found out.

He waited until Ujiri was done then plucked up the soap from the water. He rather found himself in the same boat now, remembering where he'd felt the ink drip, but certain he'd only make himself more of a mess in trying to wash it out.

Ujana? Yes. Very much so. Back then, he'd been younger though and better able to handle them. Isaia? Also yes. Many, many pranks. But he had no reason to tell Ujiri that, not when it would only encourage him. Maritza said Uquin's complaining and fussing at the kids only made him a perfect prank target, but that was ridiculous!

"No, never." Uquin once again lied with a sniff, plucking at his hair and squinting at it as he tried to determine if it was part of the pieces that were dyed. "I'm your mother's father, boy, don't dig a grave for you both." Uquin complained grumpily with a shake of his head, knowing he would do nothing more than to fuss at the two of them for it. "Do you think Valerian pranks your Aunt Padma?"

Hearing his grandpa say no only made him scrunch up his nose. Well that meant his aunts and uncles were no fun. No wonder why his mother didn't really visit with them. "Right. So I have boring aunts and uncles. Great." He sighed. When Uquin mentioned not digging a grave for them both he simply shook his head with a frown forming.

"I should hope so. Aunt Padma was at least a little fun last time I remember seeing her." It had been a while but she wasn't quite so uptight as Uquin.

"You are just too grumpy. Loosen up a little." Ujiri smiled as he stretched his arms up and over his head so that he could lace his fingers together. With that done he let his hands rest at the base of his skull at his neck.

Well. Uquin hadn't quite believed Ujiri when he suggested Ujana pranked him back, but the more he talked the more he thought he'd been wrong. Then again, Isaia's brand of pranks were less 'boys being boys' teasing, and more 'I'm mad at my father and want to punish him' than a silly little joke.

The short and painful answer Uquin was realizing here was that he was simply too distant, too estranged to know his grandson well enough to tell the difference.

He tried to imagine what Padma would do if her bright, colorful outfits were stained with ink, but he couldn't fathom it being a 'happy' reaction. If Ujiri was his son, his first impulse was to punish him, not to get in on the game.

Well. Uquin would hope that him not running off to Ujana to complain about his grandson's 'disrespectful treatment' would have to suffice. He continued washing out his hair, but glanced back at his grandson, taking some reassurance that though calling him grumpy, he wasn't storming out of the room at least. "Hmm. Loosen up? What would you have me do, then - glue your hands together when you're not looking?" He smirked just a bit, but was genuinely curious was a 'fun' adult was expected to do.

Well he hadn't thought about that but hearing his grumpy grandpa come up with the idea to glue his hands together made him laugh. "I mean.. if you could manage it. I'm pretty sure I'd notice." The smirk was back on his face and this time it was a challenging one. He wanted to see Uquin try to glue his hands together. Though short of the man sitting on him and doing it he couldn't see a way for it to happen.

"Besides.. I don't think you could." His hands came apart and he lowered his arms to his sides, still in the playful mood since his grandpa wasn't nagging so much now. "We've just proven I'm quicker than you." After all, Uquin hadn't been able to catch the soap.

Spirits, he shouldn't be encouraging this sort of behavior should he? But now Ujiri seemed eager to see him try, and rather than being annoyed he felt amused. ... Or, at least for a few moments before he was being made fun of for being old again. He scowled and huffed, shaking his hands free of water, squinting at them to make sure none of the ink had stained them too badly.

They had. If he could remember where Ujiri's room was, he was tempted to wipe his hands off on his clothes. Instead he turned towards him again. "Well, obviously I won't attempt a prank I've already warned you of." Besides, with his luck he'd glue Ujiri's hands to a stick that he'd then use to beat him with.

Or something equally dramatic.

As for other ideas, he had none. Every prank Isaia had pulled had been too malicious, and even if he found his grandson frustrating, he wouldn't want to actually hurt him or his feelings, or ruin his things.

He noticed that his grandpa was squinting at his hands and the ink that stained them. So Ujiri chuckled a bit. Grabbing a nearby drying cloth he handed it to Uquin. "Here. Dry your hands." He could understand why his grandpa was upset about the ink, but it did come off. Even if it took a day or two.

"Why not? That just means I would be paranoid looking for it. Which sometimes is funnier than the actual prank." Ujiri pointed out. Still, he didn't think Uquin knew many pranks at all so he was safe from retaliation.

He pointed at the man's hands and grinned. "There is a way to get the stain off sooner." Now it was just up to Uquin if he believed him or thought it was another prank. Ujiri was going to be amused to see which his grandpa went with.
