As he entered the Rift and made his way down into its depths, Chalcanthite felt for and then whistled for his youma to come. After a moment a whistle with the same sound came back towards him. A shadow whisp of a bird flew towards him before landing softly on one of the crystals near him. Voce was a small crystal and shadowy wisp-covered creature that looked mostly like a raven. It really was such a nice birdie to him at least. Those talons probably would be dangerous to the eyes of an opponent though.

"Hello!" The voice sounded like someone long passed so he shuddered before nodding. It really was random what snippets they used to respond. The memory this youma had was interesting and very useful though it wasn't smart enough to string together a full conversation on its own.

"Hello Voce, we need to look for some more crystals today are you ready?"

"Ready?" The bird repeated back at him with his own questioning voice. It was an approval but Voce was not the best with words being a bird and all. Chalcanthtie motioned for his youma to follow as he began the way toward the last pile of crystals he had gathered materials from. None had been so pure and uncracked as the one his fife has been made from but nevertheless, it was a good habit to be in to look. He never knew when the next good one would be found for his ideas.

"We need to find some more crystals like this one Voce, can you fly up and let me know if you see any?"

"Need Crystals Yes" He squawked a bit at the last word before tilting his head from side to side examining what he was supposed to look for. After a moment Voce flew off and up towards one of the cliffs, going just flow enough that Chalcanthite could keep up without having wings. It scanned the veins of crystals that grew up and down the paths and barren wasteland the Rift was to these agents of chaos. To youma it was home and did not bother them at all but there were things that looked different and it took time for the two to communicate the differences.

After half an hour Voce let out that god-awful car alarm sound he had picked up and landed atop another crag and vein of crystals much farther down from where he had started.

"Crystal! Crystal!" Voce preened himself between squawks as Chalcanthite finished catching up to him. He pulled out a jeweler's loupe and started to examine them. At first glance, most of them looked alright but as he inspected further he saw they had minute inclusions within them. When resonating those inclusions would cause the crystal to shake itself apart faster. It would do in a pinch but would not be a permanent fix for his purposes.

"Ah close but not exactly. You did a good job though Voce, worry not these will work for now. I cannot go as deep as I need to to grab the exact same thing as I had you retrieve before." He used a small ball-peen hammer from his inner coat pocket to carefully break it from the rest of the vein. "It is time for me to head back out, be safe Voce!"

"Be safe!" Voce repeated before taking off to lead Chalcanthite back out to the gateways out of the Rift.
