Demeter enjoyed patrolling alone, even if it definitely got her into trouble more often than not. It made it a lot easier to meet other people and make friends with them, after all. Patrolling with another person made others more difficult both to approach and to be approachable. Making connections and building strong friendships was just as important as preventing murders! The more friendship you had, the better chance you had at preventing the aforementioned murders, after all! Not to sound like Twilight Sparkle or anything, but friendship is magic!! When she sensed a Knight aura, she brightened up, speeding over to meet him. "Hello!" she called out, waving. Oh, s**t. He was CUTE.

Meninx had felt the energy signature of a senshi rushing towards him but he hadn’t anticipated how quickly she’d reach him. He glanced up as soon as she spoke, because he really wasn’t sure what the social standards were for meeting new people when you were powered up in a costume like this.
His mother had always taught him that first appearances were among the most important thing you could give someone in any relationship, though. He felt underdressed when he wasn’t in a suit and had to remind himself that this wasn’t Jace’s life, this was Meninx’s.
“Hello,” he greeted, with a bit less enthusiasm. He tried to be friendly! He was just naturally a bit guarded.

Demeter wasn't bothered by the Knight not matching her energy—very few people did, and at this point, she was very, very much used to it. All that meant was they were a different person from her, and that was just life! She liked getting to know all kinds of people. "I'm Demeter, Senshi of Agriculture," she introduced herself, holding her hand out for him to shake. "It's so nice to meet more of the people on our side, Mr Knight...?"

He listened attentively because he had a name and a handshake, and that must have meant that he was on the right track. He wasn’t bad with people! He was just used to a lot more throat cutting behind those ‘pleasant’ smiles and ‘friendly’ handshakes.
He took her hand firmly and shook it like he would have any other in the office–well, no. He was a bit more gentle. He wasn’t trying to intimidate her or establish dominance. “Meninx,” he introduced. “Squire of Mars.”
If that wasn’t obvious. He was still trying to figure out how much of a title was too much.
“I feel like I haven’t run into anyone in a while. Youma don’t count. Are you newer to this or have you been doing it for a while?”

"Ooh, Squire of Mars? Oh, there must be Knights for every planet," she said aloud, blushing when she realized she'd just blurted that instead of answering the question she'd been asked. "Um, very new," she said, embarrassed. "It's been, like, three months? Maybe? I've not got out very much, either, my magic is kind of... Pbhbhbht. I can't fight super well, or anything. But I like the outfit!"

There was something of relief when she said she was new, mostly because he felt like he didn’t have to compete or act like he knew better. He might have been doing this for a while but it still felt like wandering in the darkness and hoping to find a path you didn’t know existed.
He hadn’t met enough Knights to know if they came from every planet, but he supposed it wouldn’t surprise him. The universe was a big place, anyway, right?
“Yeah, I guess,” he said, looking at her outfit and then down at his before he shrugged. “This whole magic thing is a bit weird, yeah? I’m still trying to figure that part out. Better to get out now and get some practice in before something dangerous happens, though. I’ve been thinking about trying to find some people.”
He shrugged, and didn’t want to admit that he was struggling to connect with people. He felt like a kid trying to make friends in elementary school, only his mother wasn't there to scare them all away.

"Magic is crazy," she agreed, giggling a bit and hiding her smile behind her hand briefly. "Mine's, well. It's just a bit of healing. So far. It's supposed to get stronger when I get, like, levelled up? Like a video game." She giggled again, clearing her throat. "Uhm, yeah, though. Do you maybe wanna practice fighting together or something? Good way to start connecting as teammates, right?" she said brightly. "I'm going to learn some stuff from another guy next week, but we can schedule something, or try to, whatever! You seem pretty cool."

Cool? He seemed cool? That didn’t seem right.
It was enough to catch him off guard because even though he tried to think highly of himself, he didn’t really think he was cool.
She might have just been being nice, though. “We could try,” he answered after a moment. “Maybe you can teach me what you learn from that other guy.” Honestly, he wasn’t sure he had much to practice with; most of his fighting was learned from roughhousing with his brother, but…
He supposed he should learn. If this was going to be a big part of his life, he might as well figure out how to survive it.
He didn’t know how he was going to schedule time to work out or go to the gym or take fighting lessons, so–
He was going to have to figure something out. Maybe having a teammate was a good start.

"Yeah, totally!" she said, starting to get hyped at the idea. She wouldn't say her teacher was going to be a Dark Mirror—the last thing she needed was her new friend to lose trust in her for learning from a Chaos Senshi. "Here, um... Actually." She blinked, tilting her head at him. "How does texting you as a Senshi work if you only have, like, the knight ring thingy? I was gonna ask you to put your number into my Senshi phone, but..."

For a moment, Meninx was quiet. He wasn’t really sure how the whole communication thing worked, though he wasn’t particularly quick to admit that. He considered how he would answer without giving that away but he wasn’t sure there was a way to, so instead he just shrugged a bit.
“I’ve got a cell I use. It’s just a monthly pay by pay. Why don’t I give you that number and you can text me and we can figure something out? That’s probably easier than waiting until we’re out and about like this. It should be safe.”
It didn’t track back to him, he wasn’t worried about that. It couldn’t be used against him, he was safe. Not just because he didn’t want to get killed but because he knew what his mother would do if she found out about any of this.
“Would it be easier if I just gave you that number and we can schedule a time to meet up?”

Demeter nodded, pulling a stack of postits and a pen from her subspace. "Sure thing! It'll be nice to meet you outside... uh... work?" she trailed off, bemused. "Eh, close enough. We can figure out more stuff together, even if we're different types of magical people. Thank you, by the way."
