The situation with Faustite was, to say the least, more than a bit stressful for Kerberos. It was difficult, to know that someone was suffering, know that there was a way to save them, and have them utterly reject it. But Faustite was a person, with his own dignity, and the ability to make his own choices.

It was just hard to watch him self-destruct.

He'd been wandering, for a while, somewhat aimlessly, like that might better help him tame his wandering thoughts--but apparently his feet had carried him in the right direction, or at least to a friend.

"Encke!" He was tall, and his bright colors and magenta glow were quite familiar. There was simply no missing him, and the familiar sight did make Kerberos feel a little less...well, bad.

To be honest, Encke was impossible to miss,

He glowed like a magenta-colored lightstick, and his outfit made him look like he had stepped out of a sci-fi flick. In some ways it was unfortunate; even if he wanted to be sneaky, he really couldn't be. But he had factored and retooled for that long ago, and now he embraced it. He would let Chaos find him if it kept them away from other people. He would let Order find them because they wanted them to.

Today, he felt an eternal aura approach--with some of the brightness he began to associate with others like him--and his demeanor changed immediately when he realized it was a friend.

"Kerb!" When Kerberos approached, Encke opened his arms and offered a hug if he wanted it. Kerberos was smaller, not as small as Nectaris was, but it was fun to wrap up smaller people in hugs sometimes-- "How're you doing? It's been a minute, honestly."

Ignacio should invite him over sometimes, Livie would love to see him more he was certain--

The offer of a hug was always well taken. being folded up against someone much taller than him was always a pleasure for Kerberos--there was probably a reason that most of his partners were Tall Dudes.

So, he went, letting himself be pulled in, and sighed, contentedly. It was always good to find a friend, and especially one as warm and welcoming as Encke.

"It has!" He needed to be better about finding time for his allies, but, well. Always something to do. "I've been well. How about you? Your family?" Encke had always seemed deeply and thoroughly entwined in the war, and perhaps if Kerberos could find a way to ask, he might be a good one to bounce the facts of Faustite's dilemma with.

The contented sigh drew a smile to Encke's lips. He'd let Kerberos stay curled up there as long as he needed or wanted, honestly--

"Glad to hear you've been well," and no signs of his world being invaded by a mysterious chaotic force, thankfully. They had banished that, permanently, and Encke was still proud of the group of them for doing that-- "For me, it's been alright. Kinda up and down in places. Powered concerns, mostly." Astraya. Needing to chase off Faustite. Needing to rescue his friends and family. Needing to worry about Faustite's survival. Needing to -- it never really ended, did it? "I've been cast in a new movie? Kinda cool actually."

That had been taking up a lot of his civilian attention, and perhaps consequently been eating into his patrol time, but the war wouldn't stop for anyone.

Otherwise, he would have ended it years ago.

"My family's doing pretty good too! Did I mention my father-in-law awoke as a knight? My father-in-law. Glad Basi can get some matching grey hairs, finally." He snorted. "Think Nikki is doing okay too," well, depended on the day what okay meant, he supposed. "A couple new guests in the house too... You should stop by sometime -- bet my newly paged dad would love to make you something and see you eat it this time."

Kerberos did wriggle out of the embrace eventually, but he let himself enjoy it for a longer moment than he might have with someone he was less comfortable with. Honestly, it made him feel better without even sharing his problems out loud.

"That's good to hear," he said, "and congratulations on the role. If you ever need baked goods for a cast party or something, let me know, there's a helped-save-my-planet-from-Chaos discount." He laughed. "Presuming most of the shooting's local."

Kerberos gave a brief amazed shake of the head, at the news that Encke's father in law was a Knight now. "That's...sort of crazy. But, you know, I'd love to come by for dinner sometime, I'm definitely not one to turn down free food, and I'd like to thank him in person."

A brief pause. A sigh. Kerberos's expression dropped, slightly.

"Hey, you wouldn't happen to know General Faustite, would you?"

"It is, yeah," perhaps Encke had gained some level of notoriety for it, but he did generally prefer to keep most of his shooting local. When asked, it usually boiled down to wanting to bring more cinematography to the city. Did they need to know it was because he had a double or even triple life he had to put a lot of his priorities into? No. Not at all. "So I might cash in on that discount!"

Happily, honestly.

Just as he followed that up with, "Isn't it? Told Basiluzzo he's owed some greys -- but then consider that an open invite! We're a fully aware household too, so no need to worry about hiding." Encke winked. "Just give us a heads up so Dad can go make something up."

Did Stromboli ever mind? Of course not. Would he want to make something nice anyway? For sure--

Something about the tenor changed, and Kerberos' expression changed, and then he mentioned a key name that caused Encke's eyes to widen. Huh. A coincidence, no doubt, unless he had happened to run into the same guy. Was Kerberos aware of what was happening to him? What were his opinions on it? Probably better to ask than just turning it over in his head--

"Very familiar with him, actually," with the man who probably was once his greatest nemesis. Now? Now, he didn't know what he was, just that he deserved to leave chaos behind if he wanted to. "We've run into each other on and off for probably the better part of the last six? Years?"

... Stars above, it had really been that long.

"Have you seen him recently?"

Maybe Kerberos had a better sense of his recent status than he did.

"Absolutely," Kerberos agreed. He really would have to call and stop by the Bell household. They seemed like good people, and it would be nice to share a meal with folks who knew exactly who he was, on all fronts.

Still, the discussion of Faustite made him exhale. Good, Encke knew who he was talking about. Might, then, know what he was suffering.

"I only met him recently," Kerberos said, "but as it turns out, we shared a superior officer from back when I was in the Negaverse. Nightmare of a woman. Gone now, thank ********." Or at least, all evidence said so. And good riddance. "I ran into him recently, and he seemed....unwell. Very much so. More on fire than usual, particularly."

The promise of seeing someone else who he was fond of come by the house that was beginning to feel like something of an Order sanctuary brought a smile to his face in spite of everything he was thinking about. Honestly, he was looking forward to it!

He could even introduce Kerberos to some of the other people he knew who were involved in this s**t--

Knowing that Faustite's superior once had been a nightmare gave some context for him. While it didn't necessarily excuse prior behaviour, it did provide some clues as to how Elex Yorke had become the General Faustite he had seen, so willing to take starseeds, murder, and withdraw energy, and how he had ended up in the state he did. It was unfortunate that this all provided a chance for it to perpetuate.

But maybe they could break the cycle.

"Very much. Saw him faint, actually," Encke glanced to the side for a moment, briefly remembering how Faustite had been convinced Encke was just trying to finish the job. "He approached me because he didn't know what to do other than try to get Order's attention, actually. Said he wants rid of the youma. And that's fair. It's killing him."

He looked back toward Kerberos.

"But maybe this is an opportunity to get him to not only want to be rid of the youma, but rid of chaos?"
