Welcome to the Friend Zone Safari Contest! Sponsored by the Association of Safari Zones and Chairman Baoba! At the Safari Zones around the world we hold capture contests, and as the name implies it is a contest to see who can catch the biggest, rarest Pokemon out there! Today we will be holding a Safari Contest, here in the Friend Zone of Kalos, in honor of the young republic's upcoming Independence Day! Vive la Republique!

The contest is simple, in the Friend Zone you will find many different kinds of Pokemon, from all over the world in fact! We give participants three Safari Balls to use and attempt to capture the best Pokemon they can, or you can use any three Pokeballs of their own, if you do, we do not give you any Safari Balls. [You may use one of yours and two of ours and so forth. You are only allowed to use three Pokeballs total.] You are allowed to take just one of your own Pokemon into the park to use to weaken a wild Pokemon for capture, so don't let it get knocked out! Pokemon are judged on their quality, rarity, and how well the capture was roleplayed. So are you interested? Then sign up, take your Safari Balls, and hit the grass and find the best Pokemon you can!

How to Participate:

The rules for the Safari Contest are simple. Pick one Pokemon to use in the contest, and when you post your character looking for a Pokemon use the random number generator to find out what Pokemon your character finds. Set the lowest number to 1 and the highest to 50 for all areas. Please be sure to state which area you are in at least in your first post for each area. You may travel to different areas if you wish. Once your post goes through, check to see what number you got, then, look at the list of available Pokemon, at the bottom of this post, to see what Pokemon appeared.

Then, in your next post once the Pokemon has been decided, begin battling it all in one post. But before you post your battle, use the Random Number generator again to see if the capture was successful, setting the lowest to 1 and the highest to 10, however, different Pokeballs have different success rates depending on what Pokemon or area you are using them on/in. Consult the list below to see what Pokeballs benefit this area.

----------

[Safari Ball] 50% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Pokeball] 50% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Great Ball] 60% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Ultra Ball] 70% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Net Ball] 70% Success Rate on Bug and Water type Pokemon, 50% on all others.

[Dive Ball] 70% Success Rate on Water type Pokemon, 50% on all others.

[Dusk Ball] 70% Success Rate on Pokemon found in caves, 50% on anything else.

[Nest Ball] 70% Success Rate if Pokemon is a lower stage than your own Pokemon.

[Repeat Ball] 70% Success Rate. Allows a fourth and final capture attempt after the previous three have failed.

[Quick Ball] 80% Success Rate on your first Pokemon encountered only, 50% on all consecutive.

[Timer Ball] 80% Success Rate if it's your last Pokeball only, 50% on any prior.

[Heal Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon if you failed to capture it once already, 50% if not.

[Luxury Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon that evolves with happiness.

[Fast Ball] 80% Success Rate on a fast Pokemon.

[Heavy Ball] 80% Success Rate on a heavy Pokemon.

[Level Ball] 80% Success Rate on a first stage Pokemon (Spearow, Stunfisk, etc.), 50% on all others.

[Love Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon with only a single gender, 50% on all others.

[Lure Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon fished out of the water.

[Friend Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon that evolves with happiness.

For success rates of 50%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

For success rates of 60%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

For success rates of 70%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

For success rates of 80%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

For success rates of 90%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

----------

As long as you still have Pokeballs you may continue to hunt and capture Pokemon until you get one you are comfortable with. If you catch a Pokemon, but then choose to catch another, you must release the first Pokemon you caught before keeping the second. Once you run out of Pokeballs your time is up and the Pokemon you last caught will be the one judged.

When everyone is done (a specified time will be given when the contest will end, regardless if others are done) all Pokemon caught will be judged. Each Pokemon will be judged individually in separate posts where a random number will be used to judge their quality, between 1 and 5 and the number it lands on will be its quality. The other stat taken into consideration is the Pokemon's rarity, its species. A rather common Pokemon like Spearow won't give as much points as a Pokemon like Absol would give much more. However, with quality, a Spearow could beat out a Absol.

Note you can use Bait and Honey sold from the Golden Sarcophagus to increase your chance at getting the Pokemon you want. Bait cuts in half the number range while Honey lets you change X amount of numbers to a Pokemon you prefer. These items stack as well so you can cut the range in half (50 numbers becomes 25) and change X amount of numbers in that new range to another Pokemon.

Contestant Prizes:

Prizes will be given out to the top three contestants, as well as a consolation prize to those who don't make the top three. All participants get to keep the Pokemon they caught. The first place contestant may choose to get a Snag Emblem or additional Snag Coins apart from the normal prize.

1st place prize: 15 Snag Coins and one Snag Emblem OR 25 Snag Coins OR Rare Candy! Plus 2x Exp. Candy XL

2nd place prize: 15 Snag Coins and 2x Exp. Candy L

3rd place prize: 10 Snag Coins and 1x Exp. Candy M

All participants who did not place receive 5 Snag Coins or 1x Exp. Candy S as a consolation prize as well as their captured Pokemon. Snag Coins can be spent in the Snag Mall.

Also, if you use a Pokemon that's not fully evolved that Pokemon will earn Evolution Points/Happiness Points at the end of the contest depending on how many Pokemon it knocked out. For Evolution Points your Pokemon gains 0.50 points for first stage (Caterpie), 0.60 points for second stage (Metapod), 0.70 points for base (Tauros), and 0.80 points for third stage (Butterfree). For Happiness Points you must battle at least five Pokemon to gain one happiness point, including a successful capture. If not catching anything then it's seven battles. You can also gain Purification Points in the same way as Evolution Points. Don't worry, the Safari Zone is protected by an Immunizer so no virus spreading here! Evolution/Purification Points will be rounded up at the end and we ask you post how many points you accrued in your final post. Bonus points (Evolution, Purification, or Happiness Points) will be rewarded to all participants at the end based on how much effort and content went into your posts. You may lose points if your battles were one liners or just in general lacked any effort.

For the purpose of training you may also use your newly captured Pokemon right away.

And that's it! Get out there and have fun!

[Bonuses]

Below you'll find the various bonuses you can obtain throughout the Safari Contest.

-----

Roll the same Pokemon twice in a row and you may have the third encounter be that Pokemon’s next evolutionary stage. Add +1 to star rarity.

Roll the same Pokemon three times in a row and the third one is shiny! Applies only once per the entirety of Safari Contest. First one to capture shiny gets it. If not captured others may roll a shiny.

Every two battles will reward you 1x Exp. Candy XS (received at the end of the contest). If you battle the same Pokemon consecutively then you receive a higher rank candy (eg. if you battle a Rattata once and then again right after the candy you receive for those two battles would be an Exp. Candy S instead).

Every capture will reward 1x Exp. Candy M. Capture of a 5 Star rewards you a Exp. Candy L instead. Capture of a shiny rewards you a Exp. Candy XL instead. Pokemon does not have to be kept to count, just captured.

Yungoos have invaded the Friend Zone and are destroying the meticulously maintained environment and now authorities fear the invasive species could spread to the rest of Kalos! Earn 1x Exp. Candy L for each Yungoos captured! Stamp out this menace! (Overrides capture reward above.)

(Note the candies provide the following amount of points:

XS - 1 point
S - 2 points
M - 3 points
L - 4 points
XL - 5 points)

Monique ventured toward the lake area of the Friend Zone when she arrived, looking at the placid shoreline. The area was positively teeming with Pokémon—this zone was very well-stocked.

A Pokémon skittered toward her on the shoreline...

It was a small, light blue bird. Ducklett. Water/Flying. The Water Bird Pokémon. Apparently from Unova—though she really didn't need another bird Pokémon.

Monique had decided to carry Moʻala, her Corphish, for this contest to get her some familiarity at battling. The Ducklett moved first with Water Pulse, sending a short burst of water. It didn't do much against the fellow Water-type.

"Night Slash!" A dark aura coalesced around the Corphish's pincers. She sliced away at the bird Pokémon.

Next, the Ducklett used Wing Attack, charging against Monique's Pokémon, wings spread. This seemed to be slightly more effective; the Ducklett had figured out it couldn't use a Water move against a Water-type with much success.

"Night Slash!" The aura swirled around the pincers, and this time it seemed to hurt more on contact—a critical hit, more frequent with this move than most. The Ducklett sprawled out on the lakeshore, suddenly overwhelmed.

A small, squid-like Pokémon floated in front of her face, the light spots on its head softly blinking. Inkay. Dark/Psychic. The Revolving Pokémon.

Monique already had seen Inkay and knew of them because there were a few left on Aether Island—in other words, they were Poni natives. And pretty hardy ones, considering the circumstances. Not only that, she'd seen one in the Snagem office in Lumiose the one time she'd visited.

It emitted a Psybeam, a visible line of psychic energy cutting across and onto the Corphish's forehead, knocking Mo'ala back a bit. It responded by using Bubble Beam, the bubbles pushing the Inkay back and sticking to it slightly, making it a bit slower.

Encouraged, Mo'ala of her own accord decided to use another Bubble Beam. She wanted to keep this Pokémon far, far away from her. It winced as the bubbles pushed back. One more hit and it might—

Unexpectedly, using its Contrary Ability to its advantage, the Inkay zoomed to right in front of Mo'ala, millimeters away from its eyes. It was doing something with its lights, and Corphish was starting to look sluggish. It's using Hypnosis! Like that one Ultra Beast!

Monique reached for one of the three Safari Balls she had been given and chucked it at the Inkay, hoping that it would be captured or at least forced to stop from making Mo'ala sleepy. She couldn't have that now.

The ball shook once. And then the Inkay burst out, twirling rapidly as if to rub its newfound freedom in Monique's face. That had not gone well. She had to make a split-second decision: waste another Safari Ball on Inkay or keep battling so that she had a chance at another Pokémon?

Monique decided that there'd be other opportunities to catch a Psychic-type, even if she'd been searching for one for a while. That made two in recent weeks to elude her: the Bronzong on Mt. Coronet, since she never heard or suspected that it was a Psychic, and this Inkay.

As she made that decision, the Inkay zoomed into Corphish's face and began flashing its lights again. That irked Mo'ala, who closed her eyes and delivered a Double Hit across the middle, the second blow knocking the floating Pokémon onto the ground, fainted.

She looked at the Corphish and gave her a fistbump on one of her pincers. She was proud of its ability to react quickly and avoid being taken out by Hypnosis the second time. The two walked along the lake... Maybe one last Pokémon here before checking out the cave area? [the roll in this post]

Walking close to the shore, a slow-moving slug Pokémon splashed across their path, pink and white. Shellos. Water. The Sea Slug Pokémon. Its color and shapes differ from region to region. In the Sinnoh region, two types are confirmed. This is the West Sea version.

"Night Slash!" This was another Pokémon that, like Ducklett, was probably not very useful for her. She already had her Water-type, and one that looked a little more reasonably powered than this thing at that.

The Shellos responded by taking a defensive posture. It expelled some of its trademark purple mucus and then coated itself in it to raise its physical defense—an unusual way of using Harden. Mo'ala used Night Slash again, but it clearly did less damage with the added defensive stage.

Shellos used Water Gun, a weak trickle of water connecting with the Corphish but doing next to no damage.

"Bubble Beam!" The only Special move the Corphish knew was also type-resisted, but it came from a Water-type, and it bypassed the pesky raised Defense of the Shellos. It even seemed to take away a bit of the mucus, though unfortunately it had a reputation for being difficult to cleanse.

Shellos used Mud-Slap, mixing the nearby lake water, a bit of its mucus, and some of the ground before slapping it onto the Corphish, mostly to try and make it less accurate. To Monique's relief, though, the next Bubble Beam delivered and sent Shellos back into the water, defeated.

The Corphish, of its own volition, dipped in the lake to clean itself off of the mud. Monique decided to head for the cave, where she might not be battling so many of the same Water-types. It was just too bad Inkay didn't work out for her.

Monique entered the cave, soft passages occasionally filtering light from above into the dark environment. Her eyes adjusted easily—after all, many Zoroark lived deep in forests. Away from the water, Mo'ala skittered on the floor, wondering what she would encounter in this unusual environment...

She'd tried to escape the Water-types but failed. Here was a female Frillish—like the one she had seen in the STR. Why was it here and not, you know, out on the lake? It was a question Monique would have liked to answer, but instead, she had Mo'ala lead the charge with Night Slash. At least there was a super-effective move for this situation. The move did a lot of damage—

The SNAG beeped. Cursed Body struck. Corphish was going to need to use another move next turn or until Frillish was defeated. While that information entered Monique's head, the Frillish used Poison Sting. The barb struck on the right side, though it did not seem to have any ill effect besides some damage. That said, Mo'ala was starting to move a little slowly. She'd need to check and see if she could get some healing supplies.

Luckily, Knock Off was another Dark-type move. And super effective. Frillish flopped to the ground, fainted. Monique had defeated four Pokémon, failing to catch one of them... She wanted something to take from this Safari Contest other than experience for the Corphish and regret at not being able to catch Inkay. This is getting a bit frustrating, she thought, removing the barb carefully from its shallow entrance to the Ruffian Pokémon's shell.

In good news for Corphish, the next Pokémon was also a Ghost-type. Gastly, with its trademark bright eyes and dark, spherical, gassy self. Monique already had Kalama; she did not need another Ghost-type around, and she decided to just get it over with.

One use of Night Slash proved to be enough to cause the Gas Pokémon to faint. Monique sensed another Pokémon nearby and turned around to see...

Aden found himself subjected to one of these contests for once, though he was fairly certain he heard the word "mandatory" somewhere in the remarks about coming here. He found himself in the forest within the Friend Zone at any rate, feeling that if he was going to be "persuaded" to come because "it'd be nice if he came with," he could at least be in an area he found somewhat more enjoyable.

And he figured it'd be good practice for Wooloo. The foilage made the area relatively shaded, light shining through where it could as he walked, quiet if only for not having much to comment on talk to himself about right now.

Not long into his excursion did he start hearing more rustling than normal from one of the trees nearby, Aden glancing over before quickly making a step back. Something felt nearby, and a Swellow would confirm his suspicions a few seconds later. "That's it? Just you?" He asked, expecting worse to show up. The angry chirps he heard in response made him doubt that he'd be left alone, making sure he sent Wooloo out.

"Alright, we can go a round-" Before his sentence could finish, he'd also get a reminder of how fast Swellow often were, striking Wooloo with a Wing Attack and bounding back to safety. "...right, fast and not much chill. Wooloo, defend yourself! Cotton Guard!"

Both of them holding their ground, Wooloo's fleece would expand and poof out a bit, serving as more of a buffer from Swellow's attacks. Though they'd come at her with another Wing Attack, she'd be able to take it much more easily than before thanks to her fleece absorbing even more of the blow. Confident that she'd be fine, Aden was ready to pivot to an offensive.

"Alright, good. Now, Headbutt them! See if we can wear them down!" He called, running behind Wooloo and giving her a slight push to help along a roll into Swellow. Though they did try to stop her with Quick Attack, her defenses would make it difficult for the attack to interrupt her and she'd keep rolling. If anything, Swellow's actions meant nailing the hit became easier and they'd get rolled over for the efforts. It took a moment for Swellow to manage to get back up afterward, let alone back in the air with a sharp cry before letting off an Air Slash to maintain some distance.

Unlike the other attacks, this one had an easier time getting through the defenses, even managing to cut some of the fleece. Though the attack certainly hurt more, she seemed to otherwise manage- surprised bleats not withstanding. "Think they've gotten wise... hm. Go for Copycat, use their move back?" He wasn't sure of its success or how a sheep could hope to perform an Air Slash, but Copycat was letting her copy the energy of it. With the excess fleece being sheared in the process from the attack, a combination of slicing winds and annoying bits of fluff found their way at Swellow, bogging them down enough to keep them from retaliating. "Now, let's finish this with another Headbutt!"

While Swellow was still down, struggling to get back skyward, they'd see Wooloo rolling at them again. This time, though, they weren't able to mount enough of a resistance in time, tumbling along the ground from the attack and giving a weak chirp... only for Aden to have Wooloo come back to him as he shook his head. "Good fight, but I don't see a reason to catch you. Recover and maybe we'll end up having a rematch."

He'd recall Wooloo to further signal that his disinterest in continuing the fight to potential detriment to either of them, walking further into the forest.

A little bit more walking would have Aden watching a Combee fly through, otherwise leaving him alone. "Probably best not to bother them..." He remarked, deciding to leave it alone too. If not for the fact that they paid him little mind, then to avoid the Vespiquen that might be around and would.
