Lonnie was…
Bored.. Bored and…feeling some other things, and honestly, that was never a good time, and so he sat in a booth in a small diner, waiting for the one he had matched with in the hook up app that he had on his phone.
It wasn’t dignified, it wasn’t romantic...but honestly? He didn’t care. He was bored. This would fix the situation. It was simple. Transactional. Meet in a public place, go to a reasonable but respectable hotel for the night, leave the next morning and never see the person again.
Easy.
It wasn’t that he could have a real relationship anyway. There would be a conflict of interest knowing the city that he lived in. It was a wonder that the Negaverse didn’t have their own dating app…it would make things easier to know that you were dating…or sleeping with someone who was on your side in this whole ridiculous war but.
…That could cause its own set of problems.
Taking a moment, Lonnie rubbed the bridge of his nose, hoping to fight off the headache that was threatening, and when he looked up, he saw the male from the profile picture. “Judas?” It was phrased as a question, but…it was more of a confirmation.

Judas was admittedly, nervous. Sure he'd done this more times then he could count, but there was always that small about of butterflies that always seemed spring up on the 'first date', regardless on if there was a second.
His companion for the day was just as pretty as what he'd seen on the app. At least that was a bonus. To say he was tired of people faking these sorta things... Understatment.
Judas tilted his head, offering a smile as the other man said his name. "And you must be Lonnie... It's nice too meet you."

“Indeed. I’m Lonnie. Do you have any aversion to eating first, or are you in a hurry?” Not that Lonnie could really even think that he might be in a hurry…this wasn’t something that should be rushed…wasn’t something that had to be rushed. “If you’re not in the mood for eating, I am, and I do enjoy at least talking to someone before getting to know them more…fully.”
The smallest hint of a smile spread across his own face and he nodded at the empty booth seat across from the table from him. “Sit. We’ll eat and talk and then head over to the hotel, if that suits you, Judas.”
For a moment he let his eyes flicker over the male and nodded in some approval. “I’m glad that you look as good as your photo.”

Judas shook head. "No hurry here. I'm yours for however long you need me." However long that might be.
He slid into the seat across from Lonnie, nodding. "I don't mind either. Talking, eating. We can do whatever you feel most comfortable with." Despite their current arrangement, the last thing Judas wanted to do was make Lonnie feel uncomfortable or jump into anything before he was ready.
Propping his chin on his hand, Judas smiled. "Thank you! You as well, though I hafta admit, the picture does not do you justice. Your hair is beautiful." Judas never understood the point in lying when it came to pictures or the apps. Yeah, mystery or whatever. Sure. Whatever. But there was no fun in starting things off like that. "So..." He said after a moment. "Was there anything in particular you wanted to talk about? Or to know?

Lonnie watched him, a small, almost playful smile on his face now and he shrugged. “Not really. Just wanted to see how you’d react.” He was far more chill than most of those that Lonnie would find, and even though he did try to filter out only the best ones to meet in person, not many of them passed this last test, being far too eager to go and be alone.
“Is there anything that you find special about yourself? If you were going to get a milkshake here, what flavor would you get? And…onion rings or fries?”
These were questions that had no real point to them…but, now that Lonnie was feeling far more relaxed…he did want to get to know Judas.

"As long as you're sure. If something changes, please let me know."
Judas stared for a moment, before blinking. "Ahaha. Is it in poor taste if I say that I don't really have anything special?" He must look horrible, that was probably such a let down. "Yeah I could brag and lie or something but eh, where's the fun in that." Judas shrugged. "I am pretty ******** flexible though. I don't know if that exactly counts as special though."
He huffed, blowing a strand of hair out of his face. "As far as your other questions... Chocolate or Strawberry. You could theoretically mix them, but I've yet to get a milk shake that actually tastes like chocolate covered strawberries and not sludge. As far as onion rings or fries... Both, but it depends on where you are, and never at the same time. But, counter point option... Funnel cake.

Interesting. Most people loved to talk themselves up, and Lonnie tilted his head slightly, humming and nodded. “Well, how about I get you a strawberry milkshake with hot fudge in it, that might satisfy your cravings, and the milkshakes are good here. Funnel cake wasn’t one of the options and it’s sweet, not savory but, I do take your point and will agree that I do like it. I want the fair to come back so that I can indulge in fried foods and fresh lemonade…”
It wouldn’t be too long before it was back, and honestly, he couldn’t wait. Perhaps he would have someone to go with this time.
“Fair food is one of my guiltiest pleasures, and if you ever spill that secret, I’m afraid I’m going to have to kill you, Judas. That’s just a warning, not a threat.”
But the slight grin on his face made it seem almost like a joke.

"They do that?" Judas stared, as if he'd seen something that caught his eye. "I didn't know you could put hot fudge on a milkshake. I'd never thought to try that." Oh god, what other food combinations had he missed. "Okay okay, fair point. It wasn't an option but you have to admit it is a valid option. If we're talking about for right now... fries? Easier to share, plus you can do them with just about anything. My sister use to dip her fries into milk shakes."
How he missed that.
"Okay but that then begs the question. Do you prefer sweeter lemonade? Or sour?" Judas grinned, reaching across the table and holding his pinky out. "Your secret is safe with me. As it's also one of my guiltiest pleasures. I promise I won't tell a soul if you won't."

Lonnie gave a soft snort. “Judas, they’ll do almost anything if you’re willing to pay for it, but yes. They’ll put hot fudge into a strawberry milkshake for you, and we can get a plate of fries to share, because now you’ve got me wanting them too.”
He seemed thoughtful for a moment, thinking about the lemonade and taking the male’s pinky, hooking his own around it for a moment. “It depends. If it’s the fresh squeezed kind, with the little shards of lemon in it, I want it to be sweet, but if it’s the stuff you just get at normal restaurants, I want it to make me pucker.”
Flagging the waitress down, he made the orders, two strawberry milkshakes with hot fudge, extra cherries on one, and a plate of fries to share with a side of cheese just for fun.
When she was gone, he looked back at Judas, his eyes far warmer than they had been when the conversation had started. “You have a sister?”

Judas made a noise. "I've never worked food before. I never thought to to ask for special requests. I get enough s**t from book snobs where I work. Don't really wanna piss anyone off in a restaurant." Lord knows what they'd do to his food. "I can get behind that though. I like sour lemonade, but sweet tea. I use to thrive off those as a child."
He nodded softly, once again propping his head up in his hand. "I do... I haven't seen her in like a year and a half though. It's like she up and disappeared one day." Another shrug. "Only so much I can do about that sorta thing ya know? But... Where ever she is. I hope she's okay." Judas really missed her. "But, enough of my laments. What about you? Sisters, brothers. Anything special you feel like sharing with the class?" He grinned, hoping it was enough to distract from the topic.
Whether he was trying to distract Lonnie, or himself, was anyone's guess.

That made sense, Lonnie supposed, but, he also knew if you tipped well and asked nicely, people would do almost anything to make you happy. That was the point of customer service, after all. No need to be a Karen but…still. The worst they could say was no.
He wanted to ask more about Judas’s sister, but caught the silent plea to move the topic, and finally shook his head. “I was an only child, raised by my Uncle, but. He was single for most of his life. Had a fling when he was younger but, after my parents died and he got custody of me, he stopped trying. He passed away two years ago from thyroid cancer.”
That…was far too much information to pass on, but…Judas was easy to talk to, and Lonnie found that he couldn't really help it.
“I hope that she turns up for you, Judas. And I hope that you have other family to turn to.”

Judas winced. He would manage to pick a sore topic. "I'm sorry for your losses... I'm glad that you were able to stay within your family, that someone was able to take you in." He didn't want to imagine having to go through that as a child. Yeah he had his own experiences but, Judas was an adult at the time.
Judas smiled. "Maybe she'll show up someday... But if she's happy wherever she is, then I'm happy for her. As far as family..." He sighed. Sure, he had his biological family, but he hadn't talked to them in years. "I have the family that I've made. And that's what matters right? I may miss her but I'm not alone." A small white lie, but at least that wouldn't hurt Lonnie. "Plus I've made made a new friend, so what's there to be upset about?" Even if this was their last meeting.

Lonnie watched him, thoughtful and nodded slowly. “I appreciate your condolences, and I hope that she shows up for you. And I do hope that she is happy. That is all that we can truly ask for in this world, I think.”
He was quiet, thinking some things through as he waited for their food to arrive, and finally, with a soft sigh, held his hand out. “May I see your phone for a moment? Unlocked?”
This wasn’t usual, but…then again he didn’t normally get to actually having long and enjoyable conversations with a perspective partner, so…none of this was really…normal.
“I want to give myself your phone number, just in case I decide to break my own rules.”

Judas nodded, making a soft noise. "As long as she happy, that's all I can ask for really.." Sure it would sting but if she was livin her best life, that's all he wanted.
He stared at Lonnie for a moment before passing off his phone without question. "Oh? And what are these rules of yours? Are you a one and done kinda guy??" He didn't mean to poke fun, and he hoped Lonnie didn't take offense, he two had a few rules he put in place. And if those people didn't follow the rules... Well.. He had a back up plan for that. "You know, I would have just given it to you. This has been nice." Yeah sure, this isn't what either of them had initially agreed to but... This had definitely been more fun then he originally thought it would be.

“I am very much a one and done kind of guy, and I normally refuse to have any contact with those that I spend the evening with but. You’ve proven to not be as much of a creep as most of those that are on the app, so I’m debating what I’m going to end up doing with you.”
Leaning back as the waitress returned with their milkshakes and fries, Lonnie slid Judas’ phone back towards him. “But, now I have your number so if I want to reach out and make contact, I can.” Lonnie picked up his glass and held it out towards Judas, quirking his lips into a slight smile. “To…new beginnings, I suppose?”
It seemed as good a toast to make as any, and now that the food was here, they could finish up and get to the real reason they had both come out today.
